it's #36 right now on the iTunes R&B/Soul songs chart. It's not in the top 200 overall songs, though.

Perhaps it'll move up more, it's listed on the front page of the itunes store.

It's moving up...it's #3 on the iTunes R&B songs chart, and has now made it to #144 on the overall chart. Honestly, already much better than I had expected...F.U.N.K. never made the iTunes Top 200 at all.

After he's done in Canada he should come back to the US and do a little promotion. I think people might check out his songs if they a)knew about them, and if b)the songs he promoted turned out to actually be available for download!

wow

it is 115 right now...

that is shocking...

not a big deal i guess.... but considering that most orgers barely know its there and it could crack the top 100 is pretty good

I've seen that the song is in the top 200, last i saw in this post someone said 144/200. I dont know how to view the top 200 singles tho.

But in canada and US, he is #2/#3 on r&b singles charts, and so is when doves cry in canada.

I STAN and SLAY for Prince LOL.

If there were a video to go along with it somewhere on the internet, it might move up even higher. But that would sacrifice an important principle, which is that Prince's music cannot be promoted in any logical way.

It's at #1 on the iTunes R&B Chart in the U.S. and Canada! It's also at #8 on the iTunes R&B Chart in the U.K.

The low chart position is not shocking because it hasn't even been promoted, hell even the .org didn't know it was available outside Canada for days...if people don't know about it, how will they buy it.

I think the re-recorded song also sucks, but in this case I don't think its a factor..its lack of promotion.

So, if you sought it out vicariously because of the delay in release in other regions are you going to pay for it now? I want to, but, I kinda want something physical like a CD or a 7" or my money...f--k I'm old!

Your thoughts are probably shared by more people here than would care to admit.

Hate to say it, but people need to get over CDS....They are old, not gonna be manufactured much longer! I haven't bought CDS for years except for Prince. Those times are over.....like it or not

it's the HIGH chart position that's shocking.

No, what is shocking is some of the songs that are actually in the top 10 and not Extraloveable

Then again, with all things considered, no radio airplay and no promotion, the man is doing alright.

You may be right about CDs, but vinyl sales are doing pretty well for a format that was declared dead decades ago. I never would have suspected in the 1980s that Prince's early work might be reissued on vinyl but not on CD.

I'm a vinyl junkie and I wouldn't have suspected it, either. The internet kept used vinyl alive in all kinds of new ways. But I would never have thought there would be consistent growth in the new vinyl market for many years in a row in the 21st century. Makes me pretty happy, though. biggrin

Hmm... Since I am reading this on the internet, does that mean that I am actually dead and don't realize it, like Bruce Willis in The Sixth Sense?

I wonder if he managed to squeeze an advance out of Apple. That was, after all, the reason he cited for not releasing music on iTunes -- they wouldn't pay him an advance. This was, of course, completely contrary to his stance on the record industry for the past 15 years.

But whatever.

Mabye that's why there's no big deal being made about it by him, since it's in exact opposition to the 2 statements he made about music, the Internet, and iTunes only a year and a half ago.

Currently #3 R&B/Soul track on US and Canada iTunes. When Doves Cry has sneaked into the top ten too, at number 8 (in Canada)!

Don't have access to top 100 though. At what point could you expect a single to chart in the Hot 100 based on iTunes sales? Don't think Extraloveable will do it but would be interesting to know.
