Lack of trade mark rim sound on 20Ten Prince used real linn drum machine on 2oTen, but not a single song contain his tuned rim sound that is all over the Purple Rain,1999 albums.
On MplSound album a year before Prince used pluggins instead of real linn but he used the rim like on the songs Chocolate Box,Dance 4 me and other. Do you find it odd he didn't use the rim sound when he was obviously aiming for his old mpls sound?

It's not the LM-1 snare as well. He used another.

Lack of attention to detail is the least of that albums problems.

He even let Bria use it on Elixir. It works like a snare on "Another Boy". It would have made perfect sense 2 hear that sound on 20TEN. Don't hate me 'cause I'm NOT beautiful

He dont know how to use it no more. Back in th eday he was the master of the Linn sounds and now he don´t know how he created that magic. Instead he uses plugins and shittt. Why not give the fans what they want? Eitehr do or dont. but dont come up with no half assed shitt. So either give it to em proper or don´t. Don´t fake the funk. I've dated outside of my race and I discovered that Good Pussy is Good Pussy and Good Booty is Good Booty regardless of ethnicity...I don't have a Fetish for only Big White Tits, Big White Butts or Phat White Pussy.(chancellor) wise man !

Is there a difference between the plug-in and the actual old Linn unit in sound? I'm not talking about Prince's changes in production like the less reverb or flange or more compression and limiting... I mean the actual dry sound of the Linn. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Sorry, but magic isn't created by the use of Linn drums... otherwise The Dream would have found a way to create it. Change it one more time..

I agre with the op. One of the major flaws of this album and MPLSsound imo. I still feel that if P is going to use the linn, he should use as only he knows how. With the hard hitting snare and the beat ruling the song, not just playing a small part mainly in the background.

I don't know myself what he used lately, but it seems like everyone on here has information that points to him using a plugin. But I think I understand what you are saying: the sound of each intrument is identical to that of the plugin, but it's the sequencing and how it pushes them together in terms of transitioning from one voice to the other that can sound different.
But I'm willing to bet that most people would not be able to tell what was what if you put it to the test. I think people are mistaking his changes in production effects and mastering for flaws in a plugin version of an old instrument.
