Yeah and we've been programmed to not embrace our hair but straight hair looks better than our roots, but we all know thats not true. Yes Blame those people, my neice has big curly hair and she always says "no mommy I want my hair like beyonce" and I always respond baby your hair is beautiful just the way it is, natural is beautiful, embrace is... and thats why I love Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, India Arie, Ledisi, Maxwell, etc. ^_^ but.. As for Andy's hair.. I think its cute. If I had the ability to do that with my hair, I would wear it that way, sure she looks like Pyscho bob but its ok! lol

Don't forget Leela James on that list of women who wear the natural look. Andy has gorgeous, natural hair, and she's rocking that afro very well, which looks just fine on her. So many other black female artists get caught up in society's so-called standard of beauty, and at times, try hard too hard to fulfill an image they believe will please their audience in order to be accepted/embraced by them, which continues to add to the problem moreso than trying to 'correct' it. Also, not realizing that many little girls are observing the images they portray, and believing that's the only way many in society will accept their looks, instead of embracing their individual, unique qualities and self-image as inclusive to what defines 'beauty'. Sad but true.

Any mother (or any parent for that matter) who has the audacity to teach their daughter(s) that another female's hair texture is not an acceptable form of beauty or doesn't fit the standards of what defines beauty in this society, is just another contributor to the problem, moreso than a mother (parent) who has the common sense to break down the stereotypical, ignorance that goes along with that type of belief.

Just to add: It's a different time period today where many women have the right to choose how they want to wear their hair, and express/portray their self-image, whether they want to go brunette, blonde, or wear their hair, natural, permed, curly, kinky, braided, wear extensions/wigs, etc., but having to brainwash females, that only one type of hair texture is acceptable by society, is a stereotypical belief based on ignorance with a little stupidity thrown in the mix.

ah..same shit different day.

I believe Prince's people are stirring the pot in this thread as different alias with different stances.

Every time these girlfriend. protege or what every you wanna call em threads come up, these random orgers show up spouting some bullshit relationship propaganda. These random orgers always join the org right around this time then disappear when the Hype dies down. Plus, These orgers always have some generic Princey name with either Love, peace, funk etc, in the screenname. He's feeding into the fans curiosity. He's found a fomula to get the fans going and orgers fall for it everytime.

He is using Andy Dufresne, It's alittle sad that he has to hang around 20 somethings to feel cool and good about himself. Soon he'll be some 70 year old with a dialysis machine and hot 20 year old girlfriend with golden shovel in her pocket. The sad part is she'll probably ruin his artistry and his name for quick dollar once he kicks the bucket. The generation to come will remember Prince as the short mad genius with scandalous tell all book .That's fucking sad.

This post has made me very sad because it is true formallypickles. sad

Prince's body is not young and the last part you said is what I see 2.

the statements here remind me whatSindbad said regarding relationships like this... wink

LOL, this threat is making me laugh! Prince is happy and living the dream, he doesn't give a shit about anybody, his carefree attitude towards perm neverending soundchecks on those tour gigs, his shit attitude towards associates/former band members are just few that prove he is living the drea. ..however, he's manically depressed, too!

[Edited 11/9/11 17:51pm

lol @ "this threat". Good description. This thread could be a threat to a certain person.

I think Andy and Prince are reading the Prince and Andy threads because in one of your comments you say Andy "believes" she has what it takes to be a top notch funk musician but you think she's average. A couple of days later she puts out a snippet of Prince's song We Can Funk. I haven't heard it so I can't comment. I can tell you she changed the spelling to Oui Can Funk. Oui in French means yes. Is Andy being subliminal and trying to say yez she izzz a top notch funk musician? eek

Wash, rinse, repeat. I can't get RubyButterfly's old post out of my head when I read funny threads.

LOL

exactly my favorites ladies don't give a fuck about society standards...

Janelle

I don't know what Janelle's sexual preference is but I would have loved to see this talented lady on Princes arm walking the red carprt. It is interesting that she and Grammy winner, Esperanza Spalding, another independant mind, preceeded Andy in Prince's life. I is as if he liked them and then looked for his own version of them. Not quite as talented but willing to work with him/ for him.

I know she has a man so I don't think she's lesbo:)...I thinked that he was very fascinated by Janelle(and also Esperanza).. but she's definitely too much independent for Prince..too much a strong woman for him..do you see her reaction when Prince says her what to wear?lol

Janelle Monae and Esperanza Spalding were NOT Prince's protegees...

They both had established careers of their own before they came onto the radar of Prince's fams...

Just because Prince collaborates with someone, it does not mean that he discovered the person or that he was responsible for bolstering her career.

It just means that Prince fans didn't know who she was until then...

you are right

Princes protegees seldom have half the style, ambition, or talent as these two. They are however young so they get compared to his protegees. I think most people know that neither woman got her first break from Prince.

Misty always seems very self-determined, highly motivated and very intelligent. She's young, smart and ambitious so even though I love Prince, from what I can tell he doesn't want a woman who has her own mind. Andy seems to just tag along, where with Misty, I never got the impression that she was doing anything other than what she was doing all along. Good for her!
