80s outfits Alright now u guys here Everybody can say their FAVORITE prince 80s outfit!! mine is top three, i cant choose, the lovesexy tour where he wears the outit with the little black pants white stockings, and tall black heel boots and the suspenders down on his legs and his polka dot scarf and and the fluffy white shirt that says sound and a black vest:)  an also purlle rain outfits and umm.. help me out:) is Sexy. I have always loved Princes outfits best when they were more conservative and toned down.
I am NOT talking about these pimp-like suits he was wearing during the Musicology-area, because they were mostly reminding me of 'Huggy Bear' from Starsky and Hutch, and cliched stereotypes about black men being pimps.
The suits he wore on the Parade-tour were better: still somewhat 'leftfield', but more stylish and masculine. I also love the kind of Jimmi Hendrix / John Lennon hybrid he seemed to aim for during the Sign of the Times tour.
But if anything, i think his outfits, his over-use of make-up have actually been distracting from his artistic capabilities and the perception by the mainstream. It wasnt such an issue in the (early) eighties i think, when most other artists were dressing 'weird', but it became very annoying to me in the mid-nineties with that anorectic, drug-addict, pale-faced, funny clothes-look. And i think he is making a fool of himself nowadays with those golden suits and that heavily painted face. You can expect an insecure 20-something artist to use these things in terms of image, but i find it very offputting that some 50-something, who you expect to have any life-experience, still runs around as some quasi-drag queen when its simply not necessary.
