Question About Boring Set Lists

How can I go see in Concert with more variety that doesn't have to play their 4 big hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's or any other era?

Yeah that ^

80% of the public wants to hear the hits, 20% wants to hear the unknown.

So yeah, there are always people complaining.

You need to be lucky, or maybe look into the concert schedule more closely.
I mean, last tour in Europe the NSJ shows were different was were the shows in Gent (Belgium).
Gent was rather unpredictable.

Maybe NSJ was somehow predictable?

The 1st NSJ night was kinda predictable and pretty bad for Prince's standards)

The 2nd night:

I died when hearing the piano intro of Joy In Repetition (the best version I've heard so far)

I died when hearing the first words of The Love We Make

I got excited when hearing Alphabet Street (with its playfullness)

I slapped myself twice when I actually recognized Dear Mr. Man (musically a highlight)

I got goosebumbs during 'When We're Dancing Close And Slow' (the interaction between Prince and Andy)

I screamed when Prince rocked 'I Like It There'

I died when hearing the first chords of 'Colonized Mind' (one of my favorites)

I felt the luckiest men in the world when he started playing Bambi in full length

The 3nd night: I wasn't there, but it sounds pretty awesome to smile

Malahide was fabulous and that was 'the hits' aka a boring setlist. The mood and energy of a performance to me is as important as the actual songs played. Yeah I would have loved him to play empty room or whatever but I certainly didn't short changed at all. smile
if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

I did not so mean the details, but the idea of 60 songs in 3 nights with very little overlap, not just hits.

I also mean the long shows of Gent with hits but also other material.

And yes, Malahide was strictly a hits show but worked very well. (also a crowd factor there..)

WHO can you see that doesn't play their hits?

I'd suggest Todd Rungren or John Mellencamp.

I think the only solution to this issue of the "hard cores" tired of the "hits" concerts is to do a Celebration type format where it is for us freaks to enjoy and if he wants to rip into Calhoun Square or Life Could be So Nice or whatever obscure song you like we can sing every word right along with him. Otherwise, for all of these touring arena shows, HE HAS TO PLAY THE HITS. Think about whatever artist you are a casual fan of and if they came into town and you went to see them and they played obscure stuff, you would not be happy. So if you go see Billy Joel, you want Piano Man and Pressure or whatever. If you saw Stevie Wonder you want Superstition or whover. But all this talk about playing the hits is really nonproductive, complain about too many covers as that is and should be fixable.

Somebody who never had any hits. shrug

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Get a time machine and go to any one of his concerts from 1981 to 1988 (or '90 even).

You're welcome.

ah, yes, I think you're right!

How about someone who either had no hits or someone with lots of them?

Prince could. he could play all b sides or "deep album" cuts aka what other to other artists is considered filler and still be a successful show
