Rod Stewart influence on Prince?

I was just listening to Rod Stewart's album "Foot Loose & Fancy Free," which came out in 1977, a year before Prince's debut album. Both albums were released by Warner Bros. The second song on the album, "You're Insane," has a musical hook that made me think immediately of a similar hook in "I'm Yours," from Prince's "For You." I would say there is a definite influence at work there.

Maybe there are some similarities but I'm not convinced that Prince was directly influenced by this song in any way. I would hope that if he was going to nick something he would aim a bit higher than this. wink

Rod and Prince use to wear bare chested leotards covering one part of their chest region but keeping the other one exposed lol

That's about the only thing they share - oh, and their stage presences are similar though Rod can't/couldn't split like Prince (he never tried to split lol).

You know what - when I first heard 'Im Yours' I was convinced I'd heard the intro somewhere before...Prince back catalogue is littered with 'uncredited tributes' so I wouldn't be suprised (I've also heard a song almost identical to Peach from the 70s..but it escapes me what that us too)

I'm having a similar problem with a song I heard on the radio the other day. Someone said it was by Will Downing but it sounded an awful lot like "U Make My Sunshine". I wish I knew the name of it.

Exactly! But to give an answer to the initial question: I don't think so.

As to the clothing in the pics of Rod and the clothes Prince wore during the -let's say- "Dirty Mind"-era":

Prince dressed that way to shock people and stir a rumour, knowing it was bad taste: so it was for a purpose imo.

Rod dressed that way unintentially, thinking it was cool and good taste.

I actually thought Prince took some fashion influence from Rod too

But I think Dez Dickerson has a bigger influence on Prince's style

I don't think Prince considered it bad taste... Why would it be bad taste?

First picture: it was obviously he was pussy whipped during that period because he normally didn't dress like that. lol He was a hardcore (somewhat) blues rocker, Britt Eckland's role in his life AND career made him look like a psuedo glam rocker, it didn't fit him. razz

Second picture: Bowie look like he don't wanna be bothered with "Rod the Mod" swinging his beer around in his direction. lol

No knocking Rod now, remember I'm British and take my British pub rock very seriously. Not many voices would have fitted Faces. Okay so his later work wasn't everybody's cup of tea but his early stuff is a cornerstone of 70s rock n roll.
