Prince why don't U believe in your work from 1993 to present ?

I been hearing alot of people on this site saying that Prince always plays the same songs live and I have 2 say they are right. Prince seems to have a disconnect with all of his children born after 1993. For the most part the general public are more familar with the hits from 1980 - 1992 , but there were alot of songs that people would love to hear from the 90's and 00's. My suggestion is for Prince to start adding some of the following songs into his set lists and give these songs the respect they deserve :

The Most Beautiful Girl in the World

P Control

Get Wild !

319

I Hate U

Somebody's Somebody

Holy River

Beautiful Strange

Come On

Hot with U

1 + 1 + 1 = 3

The Work

Musicology

Call my Name

Black Sweat

Fury

Beautiful , Loved & Blessed

Future Baby Mama

Guitar

The 1 U Wanna C

Dreamer

Dance 4 Me

Future Soul Song

Everybody Loves Me

Musicology (played in full, Europe 2011 I think)

Black Sweat (played in full at the )2 in 2007 and since I think)

Guitar (you have been on here the last week or so right? wink )

Dreamer (playing this in Europe 2011)

Future Soul Song (playing this occasionally in Europe 2011 I think)

He does play some of those still. (See above)

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

from a 1983/84 interview

“The most important thing is to be true to yourself, but I also like danger’ he told Robert Hillburn in his last interview. “That’s what is missing from pop music today. There’s no excitement and mystery—people sneaking out and going to these forbidden concerts by Elvis Presley or Jimi Hendrix. I’m not saying I’m better than anybody else, but I don’t feel like there are a lot of people out there telling the truth in their music” - Prince

The most beautifull girl in the world was played ONCE at the o2, 9 seconds of it on the sampler medley... confused

I could live without hearing half of these. But I know he played Guitar, Future Soul Song, Dance 4 Me, Dreamer, Musicology, The Work and portions of The Most Beautiful Girl and Black Sweat here in LA recently.

That's right. So many hits, yet in 21 nights in the UK he couldn't play his one and only number 1.

rolleyes

A good chunk on that list by the op have been played a lot at or after the O2 though.

RIP sad

To be honest, by ignoring the existance of this travesty, he's still giving it more respect than it deserves.

blah blah blah

You'll have to forgive my memory being hazy as it was 4 years ago now. I knew I'd heard it, even if only for a few seconds.

Anyway, you know the point I was trying to make, that Prince still does play the occasional song from post 1993, sometimes a snippet, sometimes a full version. It's a sweeping generalisation to say he doesn't "believe" in this work.

Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

if you only listen to "planet earth" (almost the whole album), "rich friends" and "purple and gold" you couldn't blame him for not liking his own music, but overall I like most of his post 1993-era. even recent songs like "cause and effect" still proves how funky he is.

For me, he could play sometime:

Ripopgodazippa

Days of Wild

Acknowledge Me

I Hate U

Calhoun Square

Empty Room

Satisfied

18 & Over

Face Down

Incense and Candles

Chaos & Disorder

Pheromone

Letitgo

The Holy River

Zannalee

Colonized Mind

Boom

I know, i know, that he wouldn't play most of these songs (Ripopgodazippa, 18 & Over etc.), cause they have sexual subtext. But I still want to hear them on concert. smile
