Wow. And other people posted it, too. Color Cerebus surprised.

I agree with you about Billy Jack Bitch. Even though I think the lyrical content is most unfortunate, that song is funky. Particularly the unreleased version... or alternate... whatever.

Alot of fans love this album, but I was kinda disappointed with it.There's not alot of strong songwriting on this album. The melodies on most songs are weak.It just sounds like a lazy, uninspired effort.

Gett Off (for me this is by far Prince's worst single, I've always strongly disliked it and I always will)

Walk Don't Walk (pap)

Gett Off - have you heard the Damn Near 10 Minute mix? lol I know, like, how could making it longer make it better, right? But it does for me.

Walk Don't Walk.... really? I think that's one may never have heard anybody say they didn't like before now. highfive Congrats! lol

I have heard most, probably all, of the "Gett Off" mixes but not lately. I'll dig out the mix you mentioned and try t o give it a spin with fresh ears. I do remember liking some of the "new" lyrics in the longer mixes.

"Walk Don't Walk" would have been better without the silly sound affects. It's slightly below average but the affects push it into annoying territory.

New Power Generation, yes. Without a doubt. I think its funny when the lyrics mention "Old Fashoin Ideas" when its his most dated material ever.

I agree.I still can't believe that he chose this lame song to open his 'Graffiti Bridge' movie with.

Prince is wearing all white,he dances up a storm,he even slides down a staircase at one point lol It's a really exciting scene. The song has alot of energy (a'la "Let's Go Crazy") and it's a shame that this scene was deleted from the film.

Cool. But that's why Prince shouldn't have directed it himself. lol Imagine if he had directed Purple Rain. Good Lord. lol

I really dislike '3 chains of gold'. Bombastic, theatrical, not funky and more irritating than catchy.

The max, I wanna melt with you, the flow...

The symbol is a uneven album, it's got some great songs and some bad songs too.

10) Everyday is a Winding Road (ugh)

You are still one song short of ten. There were only four covers on Emancipation but your list claims five.

We need to know what that tenth crappy song is! smile

I do not dislike "The One" but I do feel that it is vastly overrated. I guess that is understandable, any good/average track on Newpower Soul will automatically seem great compared to the dreck on the rest of the album.

Yes, I agree, but at the same time I think that Come On is better than ANY other dance song of the 96-99 era

It would be too easy to go for Jughead or Tony M related songs, but I will gladly present pick #10:

"Style"---I absolutely detested the song with a "fingernails on chalkboard" passion.

Emancipation picks dominate my list because the album was so heavy on filler that it killed what would have been a great/classic double album.

Prince is my all time favorite musician, BUT even he has his limits.

1) Betcha By Golly Wow: I get the backstory to why he chose the song as the lead single (Mayte's pregnancy), but the song was so NOT like him that it seemed just disjointed. He has stronger ballads in his Vault, but that's another story.

2) I Can't make U Love me: I felt nothing. It felt overproduced. A bastardized hybrid of Until Ur in My Arms Again + Shhhh+Slow Love

3)La, La, La...: See notes for Betcha By Golly Wow

4)One of Us: I actually dig this version, if it were done like he did for the Emancipation release party that aired on VH1/MTV back in 1996. The album cut sounds like a Creed demo (yeah I said it)

Hmm, I'm a much bigger fan of Prince than I am of U2 but I can not see him credibly doing something like Achtung Baby or Zooropa. Sure Prince can do pop/funk better than U2 but U2 do pop/rock better than Prince.
