This thread = eek

There must be ten Prince songs from the '80s that are your least favourites. How about posting your own list to give the rest of us a chance to eek at your picks?

This is really hard. Are there realy bad songs by Prince from the 80's?

The worst of the best than:

Graffiti Bridge (just a big no)

Ronnie talk to Russia (works good between the songs, but not as a song on it's own)

The Ladder (actually a beautiful song, it's more the instrumentation that doesn't do it for me)

Horny toad (There is really nothing special about it)

SEX (too simple, too minimalistic)

Tick, tick, bang (loved it when it came out, now, not so much any more, the demo is better)

Elephant & Flowers (see Tick, tick, bang)

That's only 7.......mmmmh confused

I'm suprised Glam Slam gets so much negativity around here....it's really one of my favourites, but than again...Lovesexy is the one!

I think it's a good song too. But I agree with JoeTyler, it's definitely the worst of 1999, but still a great song.

Yeah I always liked it ok but have to agree that it is weak for the 1999 album.

I don't get the hate for Dead On It. I always enjoyed that song. It's just a tongue in cheek critique of rap which Prince seemed to hold in some disdain back then (before he met his muse, Tony M).

Yeah I agree. Good track, and I don't know why everyone picks on his rapping. I think he does fine. Waaay more interesting than any of the rappers out today.

I'd have to go through the albums one at a time and put some real effort into it to make a list of what I consider his ten worst of that decade. I can tell you for sure that at least two, maybe three of them would be on Batman, and that Free could also end up on the list depending on my mood at the time. Choosing now, just because its so dated, Ronnie Talk To Russia would also probably be on the list.

I can also say without pause that Arms Of Orion would be number one. That song is an absolute pile. Just terrible, terrible, terrible.

But some of these choices - Tambourine, Escape/Glam Slam, Temptation, The Ladder, Girl, Mountains, Anotherloverholenyohead, Scarlet Pussy, Hot Thing, La, La, La he he hee (get the fuck outta here!), Computer Blue, America, Do U Lie, I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man, Delirious - I mean, shit! I understand its a "Your" Top 10 worst from the 80s. I get that's its all subjective and in hindsight and all that. But damn! There is a list of artists/bands 75 miles long that has never, and won't ever, release 14 (ONE albums worth of) songs that good.

I know what you mean, &I agree. Even the songs I've picked are listenable at times (except for Arms of Orion.. uggh disbelief what is that). But I just never got I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man & Tambourine. I just don't get it those are just eh to me by Prince's standards, especially being in his "golden" years.

I am a fan not a fanatic. I have no problem admitting when something does not work. Out of 10 albums it certainly is fathomable to find 10 songs out of 100 that were fillers. The man was so prolific and daring. If Prince were to release my 10 turds (11 with bonus track of Darling Nikki) as an album, it would be an album not worth the pressing. He crosses over into so many genres, unlike anyone else, that the odds would dictate, it (the songs) would not always strike a chord with everyone. Judging by the gamut of opinions, it's obvious that his diversity allows for fans to pick and align themselves with a sound that appeals most to them. If i am not listening to Prince, my prefered genres are 70's and 80's funk, R&B, neo-soul, Jazz and Blue eyed soul. My dislikes were obvious to me. His fans aren't "cookie-cutter" people. We look like the Revolution.

I see that a few people singled out "Vicki Waiting" as being a "bad" track. Funny, that song always struck me as being one of the high points of the Batman album. It's certainly one of his more creative songs of the late '80s/early '90s. I'm not sure that he did anything similar to it before or after.

Great Thread Idea!

Anywho, Here's my list for worst 80's Prince Tracks:

The Ladder

Tamborine

Lemon Crush

Trust

Temptation

Lovesexy [this song has always been way to cluttered & overdone to me]

Arms Of Orion

Do Me Baby [It's hard to listen to this song for me [especially the moaning part. I'm hetero lol ]

God [This is a track I listen to only to get a good laugh lol (I'm referring to the vocal version]

Another Lonely Christmas [Never got the where this song was that big of a deal]

Bonus Pick: Madonna-Love Song [I know this wasn't a solo Prince track, but he wrote, produced & song on it, so it's his fault for this calamity of a song biggrin ]

So, here's me list. It didn't take long to think of these either.... cool

الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

I agree with tyroniousdex as far as "Jack U Off" and "Glam Slam" are concerned. "Jack U Off" is ok but it's fairly lightweight. There's some nice guitar in it but it's a fairly pedestrian song. "Glam Slam" is probably his weakest single of the '80s (ok, second weakest, there's no way I can say that it's worse than "The Arms of Orion"). It kind of stopped any momentum that Lovesexy had and pretty much killed the album stone dead.

I would have to agree that "Glam Slam" is one of Prince's worst 80s single. That song was doomed to fail.Compared to what was being played on the radio in 1988,"Glam Slam" is lifeless.Prince had an annoying habit of releasing sub-par second singles from his albums, which of course killed the momentum.
