I just think its dull. Its too long and doesn't really go anywhere. Usually comes last tie with Free in every 1999 track poll too, so I can't be the only one.

We recently had a thread about the 10-track '1999' CD that omits the song "D.M.S.R".I said that it would have made more sense to remove "All The Critics..."

Serious? 'All the Critics' is genius. If anything I would think that 'Free' would make the most sense to remove.

Wow. First of all, some of the stuff y'all picked is INSANE.

This was so hard i couldn't even come up with 10.

With this being my favorite era of Prince, i found it hard then and now to hate on much that he did. I could come up with like 20 from the next era easy.

All i could come up with was seven.

Initially i tried to come up with one throwaway from each album and i couldn't even do that because there were some albums i just couldn't touch because in my mind they were perfect.

So here's what i could come up with and why.

Take Me With U - light fluff duet with someone that can't sing. i could've done without that one.

U Got The Look - same reason. yes, Sheena has a much better voice but the song was just too fluff. I enjoyed "The Arms Of Orion" much more. (yeah, i said it)

Venus De Milo - Touching Parade at all was hard but in hindsight a barely 2 minute instrumental should've been an entire song. yes, i'm reaching. as i said i found this extremely difficult.

Good Love - one of those songs i think Prince just threw together. the lyrics are ridiculous.

Glam Slam - see above.

Dead On It - Prince trying to rap has been and always shall be a bad idea.

Scandalous - This song always bugged me and i don't know why. I just never liked it. With all the amazing ballads he's done over the years, this one just didn't do it for me.

okay, discuss.

do people not like jack u off because of the lyrics? or do you guys just not like the song as a whole? i think its just completely genius

Lyrics don't bother me at all, I just don't like the song. It's ehh to me.

Yeah, the song didn't impress me until I heard the live version recently.

Never cared for "International Lover" either until I heard the Detroit show too lol

Can't think of 10, "Temptation" & "Arms of Onion" are the only ones I could think of.

Genuis? hmmm I like it but I think it's slighly weaker than the other tracks.I can see why it was used as a B-side for the "Little Red Corvette" single.

"Free" is nice music

I agree with the parts I bolded - Prince shouldn't rap; I like Arms Of Orion; and even though I put Anotherlover... on my list, I still love it, as Parade is probably my favorite album, that song just isn't as good as the rest to me.

I disagree with not picking ten songs. Worst doesn't have to mean bad. Some of my picks I don't think were bad, they're just not as good as the rest of his 80s classics.

Ok, don't know why this firsst song didn't make EVERYONE'S list:

I Love You in Me- Hands down Prince's worst song from the 80's. Makes Arms of Orion look like Purple Rain. When she's making love it's like Surgery? WTF?!

Arms of Orion- It's strange that one of Prince's best songs (U Got the Look) and one of his worst songs (this shit) are collaborations with the same person. This song is so by the numbers and bland. It lacks anything interesting. I can't even remember most of it it's so Musak

Lemon Crush- I'd like to chalk this song up to heavy cocaine use, but we all know that's not true...

Free- Live, free is great, on the album it's cheese. Not even cheddar, we're talking strong cheese.

Private Joy- I never got this song. Sounds like someone trying to impersonate Prince's sound

Tamberine- Self explanitory.

Lovesexy- Race cars burn rubber in your pants? Skidmarks anyone? One really bad line CAN ruin a whole song if it's repeated often enough

Glamslam- Self indulgent just like most of the Lovesexy album. There are some really interesting elements here, but this song is just a big mess

BatDance- This is barely even a song. Somewhere somebody had the idea "Let's take 200 Balloons and fuck it up!" I do like the Riff during the "I wanna bust that body" part of the song, but it can't save the rest of this.

This is an interesting read. It goes to show how strong P's 80's material is when most of peoples top ten hated songs only come from a pool of about 20 songs.

They doing this for the 90's and it will be much more random.

Batdance is probably one of the most creative and innovative songs he or anyone has ever done.

It's a musical collage of all of the original tracks on the album.

A MUSICAL COLLAGE.

Who else but Prince could do that?

I don't mind it, but its was a lazy out of date track. Prince was clearly attempting a popular dance track, but few clubs would play it (in Europe anyway) because it was already 3 years out of date and Prince could never get the BPM right.

A musical collage, yes. Muddled mess? Maybe

I 'do' like the change of direction 2/3rds of the way through though.

"All the Critics Love U In NY" is a very unique track. It's like this cyber jazz commentary, I find it very hypnotic. There is this ironic tone in this voice with a tiny little hint of vulnerability and sobriety all at once. Looove it. heart

Really? It's a bit pedestrian but for me the drums kind of save it. It's very funky.

I prefer Dance On, it's similar and better, in my opinion. Tamborine sounds like a sterile demo of a real song that could have been a highlight, it's like a coitus interruptus... And it's placed between Raspberry Beret and America, and that doesn't help, lol

I'm not fond of these on each studio album:

Do It all Night

Sexuality

Free

Computer Blue (I will always skip this song on the album, even though I enjoy the bootleg extended ones)

America (Seemed like everyone I knew hated this track too, back in 1985 as we kept listening to the album)

Christopher Tracy's Parade (Doesn't seem to have found the right mix hook for me, needed to be tinkered with more)

Do U Lie (seemed like a mildly amusing b-side)

Slow Love

U Got the Look

When 2 R in Love (It's actually quite trippy with slowed down hihats and such, but on both albums I'd rather skip it)

Arms of Orion (I just can't dig it)

Trust (too conventional to be released!)

I like what he's done with "Free" in live version in the 2000's. And the live video of "America" was cool. I like the raw quality of "U Got the Look", but it's a silly melody to me, same with the melody of "Computer Blue" (and the lyrics). Both on "America" and "Computer Blue" I find the drum programming really boring too. And they are similar.

I can only come up with three. And even then, I'd be hard-pressed to say I actively hate these songs...I just see them as the weakest lyrically and/or musically and not good when compared to what he was doing at the time:

Free

It

The Arms of Orion
