Lotusflow3r vs. 20ten

Last night I was reading the Bible and listening to Prince at the same time. Been listening to a lot of the hits lately and wanted something new. So I played both 20ten and Lotusflow3r. I have to admit when I first heard 20ten I thought it was kinda boring, but it is growing on me. It took a year, but I like "Sticky like Glue", and "Future Soul Song."

I immediately loved Lotusflow3r when it came out. My partner who only likes the hits and 80's music even liked it. I loved "Chocolate Box", "Dance 4 Me" and "Never be another like me". However, the album is kind of like S&M to me, I had strep throat when it came out. Even though its sweet it brings back painful memories.

So which do y'all like better, I can't decide. Feel free to post pictures from this era, which I guess would still be considered now because Prince said he wasn't going to release anything.

lotusflow3r is a much, much, muuuuuuuuuuch better album.

I know a lot of folks don't like Lotusflow3r, but I think it was his strongest effort in years.

20Ten sounded like b-sides and throwaways.

I loathe Lotusflower and I like a couple songs on 20ten, so I'll go with 20ten.

Its kinda hard to answer this now for me, since I really love 20Ten and Lotus is really growing on me. As a whole, 20Ten is better. But Lotus has some brighter spots, but miss that amazing, beautiful ballad Prince is known for. Had Prince combined Lotus and MPLS, that would have been alot better. I guess, they are almost equal really. His last 5 albums are just wonderful!!!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I would agree with that last statement.

Lotus.

There is a bit more thought and depth in tracklisting.

I am totally more about the funk and really like the use of Linn Drum samples with high use of synth in 20Ten, but as a whole it kind of feels flat and does not end well after Lavaux goes off.

Lotus loses it's focus in the middle a bit with the instrumental track and Love Like Jazz (which is a bit..too calm and breezy for an album like this) however picks right back up when $ comes on.

Lotus is the breadwinner here as in an album as a whole. Even The Morning After after fits in with Crimson & Clover..it's that 'live' and 'analog' quality the album holds on most of the tracks...beginning and ending with a dreamscape quality and leaves the listener..almost confused...there were important things said..and unsaid on this album. Like there is more to it than what was shown.

Album plays and love for vinyl records.

"LotusTen":

01. Boom

03. $

04. Dreamer

05. Dance 4 Me

06. Here

07. Ol' Skool Company

08. Beginning Endlessly

09. Future Soul Song

10. Sticky Like Glue

I can't get along with Lotusflow3r without the exception of a good few tracks

I'll admit there's something tacky about 20ten BUT of all his recent albums since being a fan it is the one I could not stop playing over and over again for the first couple months it was out (same with 3121).

so

20TEN

Prince fans are very different and want different things from Prince. Some love the nasty Prince, others love the ´musician´ Prince, others like the Linn sound, etc. Of course, most appreciate it all combined.

I am the kind of fan who loves guitars, live band sound, great arrangements, etc.

I love LotusFlow3r (not MPLS, album that the topic author mentioned). It´s a complex album, with lots of layers and guitars. Some psychodelia too. It´s like Prince was trying to capture the magic of Hendrix and early Santana adding his touch.

It´s the kind of album to be listened to with earphones. Turn the lights off and enjoy it.

20 Ten has some nice songs, as any Prince album. A nice and forgettable album, for me (and some reviewer said it was "the best since SOTT"...pfffff).

Why is it important that you were reading the Bible? Prince isn't going to read this, you know.

To answer your qestion, I prefer Lotus Flower, but I don't listen to either very much.

Because I enjoy reading the Bible and I have a relationship with God, who cares what Prince thinks and who cares what you think. Besides I was sharing with God what was important to me and that is Prince's music.

Just because I read the Bible, don't judge me with preconcieved notions.

Gotta say, I love "Dreamer" too, and "Colonized Mind" there is a lot of wisdom in those songs. As for 20ten, I'd have to say "Compassion."

What do y'all make of Bria Valente's album?

Lotus is his best album in the new millenium imo.

I like 20ten but if not for Lavaux I don't know what I would make of it.

The only prince albums this millennium, that i think are
Deserving of the title "album" and have a cohesive feel,
an interesting sound and well executed songs from start
to finish are "the rainbow children" and "lotusflower",
(only the title disc, that is) imo.

The rest are all just bindles of songs that feel like a
collection of outtakes, occasional tracks or songs he'd
have given to others in the 80s.

Lots of fun and cool material, but not real albums. The
only albums were TRC and Lotus.

Which is why I hope he's just blowing hot air right now
And will release some more music because i would like to
have another 2 or 3 actual albums from the man before he
decides to really call it quits. Because whenever all of
the elements click and he releases an actual "album", he
is still -still- on a lonely hight.

But please, no more 'mixed tape' albums.

Sides of the same coin. Both great, both essential

if only he had released Lotus in 1996 and 20Ten in 1998...if only sigh

I also enjoy Laydown and beginning endlessly, but Lavaux is the one that won me over so I hold it in higher regard.

Lotusflow3r all the way (and Mplsound too!), which I liked right away and still play constantly. 20Ten is growing on me, but it took seeing him play some of the songs live (Beginning Endlessly, Future Soul Song, Laydown) recently for me to really appreciate it at all.

Lotusflow3r easily. 20Ten and MPLSound have some good tracks, but also some filler too. I don't hear any filler on Lotusflow3r - it's one of his best albums of the post-prince era.

20Ten for me. I appreciate that LF is a more thought out effort, and is recorded in a more audiophile way, but the album seems forced to me somehow. Also i think he is channeling his heroes too much on LF.

20Ten to me is Prince making Prince music, and therefore more enjoyable to me. Also I prefer electrofunk to rock, and that's another reason why I prefer 20ten. In fact I have played 20ten more often than any Prince album since TRC!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
