9. Who doesn't know "The Sweetest Taboo"? Prince used to sing about taboo subjects..now the only thing that's "taboo" is Prince declining mojo.

Prince sang about 'Sister' and 'Darling Nikki' long before 'The Sweetest Taboo' got released end 1985.

I think the context of this song is a bit different.

But maybe I'll found out different tomorrow night (got tix for Sade performing in Rotterdam cool )

Enjoy! She's great.

Can you back this up?

No need, the word diamond was invented way before Sade was even born. It's clear that you like both of them, but the way your comparing them doesn't make sense.

I agree. Surely David Bowie invented it when he wrote Diamond Dogs years before Sade or Prince had even contemplated the idea.

Uhhh P scrawled 'slave' on his face in the 90's, 'Slave Song' is on Sade's 'Lover's Rock' released in 2000

You can't let logic get in the way of the facts.

It happened as a result of the cross-temporalisation clause written into most recording contracts - one of the aspects of his CONtract that Prince actually liked.

It is well known that Purple Rain (the song) is heavily influenced by Sade's Your Love Is King, despite the fact that Purple Rain was written first. See what I mean? It all makes sense if you think of time as a big bendy thing. In another universe, this thread does make sense.

Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP.

As I left Bercy the other evening with the strains of "Your Love is King" running throught my head, I got to thinkin' about the obvious influence Sade has had on Prince.

I even started to wonder if, by any chance, she could be better than P????

I offer food for thought....

1. When Sade's hair is tied back she sorta looks bald. We all know Prince is now bald. This look has also influenced the "lovely" Shelby.

2. One of Sade's best songss is Jezebel. Prince likes to surround himself with Jezebels...The Twinz, Diamond and Pearl...to name but four.

3. We all know Smooth Operator from the start of Sade's great career. P has always thought of himself as a bit of a "smooth operator".

4.The Saxophone has played a great role in Sade's music. This obviously pushed Prince to include the great Eric Leeds in his band for many a year. Unfortunately, unlike Sade, the sax doesn't feature much in P's recent output...

5. Connected to the above point, Prince hasn't been influenced by Sade's loyalty to band members. If Wendy and Lisa had worked with Ms Adu instead of Mr Nelson they might still be touring...

6. Sade's first album was called Diamond Life. The blatant stealing of the word "Diamond" for the Diamonds and Pearls album is not one of Prince's most glorious moments.

7. One of my personal fave's by Sade is "Is it a crime?" On hearing Lotusflower or 2010, many Prince fans asked themselves the same question.

8. Sade has a ditty called "Slave Song"....guess who inspired P to scrawl "slave" on his face in the nineties???

9. Who doesn't know "The Sweetest Taboo"? Prince used to sing about taboo subjects..now the only thing that's "taboo" is Prince declining mojo.

10. Sade hasn't cancelled any concerts recently....Prince would do well to follow her example here.

Dear orgers, I could go on and on but I won't.

I just hope these points will make you think a little about the connections between these two great artists.

I've seen Sade live yesterday, and I can tell you. They are live completely different artists. Both great at their own way, but you can't compare each other.

(of course I prefer Prince, but that's because I love him so much. razz)

I that way you can make a 'A. vs B. thread' for anything.

I bet I can even make a 'Lady Gaga vs. Pope Benedict XVI' thread that makes more sense.

Both are equally pointless. They are both leading large numbers of people to ruin, but maybe the Pope wins on sheer numbers. Dunno.
