Pessimistic or Optimistic - Prince's New Music ...

Would you say that you are a pessimist or optimistist when you take a first listen to NEW Prince music or have you already written him off since say 'that' album ???

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

Pessimistic.

Doesn't mean I'm ungrateful or don't want to hear it though.

Optimistic.

I don't expect anything that rivals the classic 80s albums, but I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that the next Prince album could be better than many of his records since.

Besides I'm always happy enough when the new record doesn't sound like NPS, Rave or the NPGMC material. lol

I try to lower my Xpectation (ha, pun) when I listen to new material. Most of it is entirely forgetable, but there's been at least three gems on every album since 3121.

Im always pessimistic @ any new music i hear, no matter who the artist is, ive already put my gaurd up, however after listening 2 the music, i normally enjoy it, Im jus a Prince fan no decade, in particular defines the time i loved P's music, bcuz i loved the various styles he has done in his lengthy career(and the clothes, hair etc lol )

so @ first pessimistic, but in the end im always optimistic, exspecially when it comes 2 the purple one, i'd rather 1 Prince song than a million "radio hits" anyday

For Prince, the glass is always already half full. So optimistic.

The sheer amount of good music the man has put on earth so far is mind blowing.

It can't all be perfect and to everyone's taste, but it's sure geared to be a basket full of endless fruit for the picking for every kind of music lover. I don't "get" the complainers.

Pessimistic if the first thing I hear is something like 'There'll Never Be Another Like Me' or 'Chocolate Box'.

Optimistic if the first thing I hear is something like 'Boom' or '$'.

So, both.

Optimistic. I am glad to hear anything that Prince releases (not saying that I like it all). It is just that I enjoy the musical journey that he takes one on (and has taken one on for over 30 years), delivering music that definitely puts him in another league.

Optimistic. Lotusflow3r and 20ten are probably my two favourite albums since Emancipation so I am quite happy with his recent material. If you had asked me this question circa 2000-2003 I probably would have given a different answer.

Agreed. Lotus and 2010 are great records. For the first time I can ever remember, I am more excited about his records than I am by his live output.

V10LETBLUES

Optimistic.

Because he is obviously capable of creating the most a amazing music.

And because I do not think he can possibly write worse than Purple and Gold.

He can only go up from here.
