What SHOULD Prince sound like today?

Since everybody constantly says that Prince isn't living up to his "potential", What should he sound like today? What sound should he re-visit & update? What genre's should he mix together to make a "new" sound? What thinketh you?

The greatest musical artist that's ever lived! Bar none!

What sound should he re-visit & update? What genre's should he mix together to make a "new" sound? What thinketh you?

I thinketh if he was following the path that led him to his greatness, in the first place. He wouldn't have to re-visit, update, nor mix any genres together to make a "new" sound!

He didn't have to do that before...did he?

Or is there something missing from the equation...that is not Prince? hmmm

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

He already tried making that "new sound", it was called "New Power Soul". It sucked and wasn't funky.

Unless he's bored to death of linndrum stuff, that's what he should be doing (and I'm glad he did on 20ten). It fits him like a glove and he's the undisputed master of it.

I would like for him to be more experimental in the studio....just try shit. He's got more talent than anyone else on the planet, but more importantly, he has the keenest musical ear around. If it sounds good, he'll know it.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I would like him to be just who he is. Not saying that I've loved every moment of his work, but I've loved the journey. I think we should let him continue to evolve and see what's in store.

I'd like him to make a record that would be a huge hit. I don't really care what's on it, just that the mass audience wants to buy it. My interest is in getting remasters and vault releases from the classic period. The more Prince gets back into the public consciousness, the more valuable his back catalog becomes to WMG and companies like Apple, and the more likely it is that someone will offer Prince a check that will interest him enough to get things rolling.

Are you serious?

So you just want a hit album, despite the content?

Exactly. I don't have to buy it, I just want millions of other people to buy it. Once the remasters are out and the purple vault has been opened, I will care about the content again. cool

Right.

I'm sure someone at WMG could give him a market analysis of exactly what would sell the most copies to whoever pays for music today. If an album of 10 songs like "Jughead" is what today's music customers are looking for, then I'd like Prince to deliver exactly that product to the masses as soon as possible. I'll listen to the new Kinks remasters in the meantime. biggrin

In the meantime, if the album does not sell to the masses, and Prince still does not release remasters, then we are stuck with an album full of sub par music.

He should try not sounding like a schizophrenic street preacher. The music sounds fine, it's the words that killed the fan base.

And I didn't mean that he shouldn't sing about his religion. Just that he should try to sound a little less nuts when he does it.

That's what we often get anyway. But there's a chance that, rather than get an album that almost no one wants to listen to [insert your least favorite recent Prince album here], we'd get one that millions of non-fans are willing to buy. Same difference to us.

Prince should sound like it's 1984 again. I want thick synths, searing guitar solos, Linn drum patterns, Wendy & Lisa EVERYWHERE and Dr. Fink synth solos. I want purple glitter and ruffles.

That's what you wanted someone to say right? razz

Actually, I would like to hear Prince return to the "Parade" era. I loved what he did with his drums during that era [live crisp drums with a little linn under them & a nice amount of reverb to top everything off]. Oh, & I can't forget about the violins either!!! Lyrically, I just want something catchy. Pop Prince was just....dope to me. It never was about the sexual stuff imo, it was about the catchyness & aggressiveness imo. Prince never really sounds all that aggressive to me anymore. He just sounds like he's coasting. I think we all want Prince to be more aggressive & spontaneous like he use to be. As in terms of what he does today.....it could be worst.....it could be better....but that's what happens when you get older. PRINCE IS BORED! HE HAS NO COMP! LOOK AT WHAT FLIES AS MUSIC TODAY! TALENT IS SECONDARY TODAY! WHAT DO WE EXPECT SOMEONE OF HIS CALIBUR TO SOUND LIKE IN THIS WORLD OF MUSIC?!!!! If he stooped to the level of the nursery school shit we hear now, imagine how much people would laugh at it. Imagine Prince in the videos & on songs with Justin Bieber & Waka Flocka & how much we would be ashamed. When Prince did try different things in the late 90's & early 00's, people dogged it. Then think, if he would have stayed with 'The Revolution' we would be complaining about that too I bet [that eventually would have gotten old too...you know it...]. I just think that Prince is SO talented that he never WILL [really] be able to please us all anymore. We are SO stuck in nostalgia, that we pay no attention to the what's in our faces. I don't want to see a naked 50+ year old man on stage humping the floor & kissing guys & shooting sperm out of guitars. I don't want to keep hearing tracks like 'Head' or 'Jack U Off' [lyrically] coming from a 50+ year old man either. I just honestly want to hear some catchy/aggressive/spontaneous Prince music....that's all. Oh, & before I finish this, WE HAVE THE MOST SPOILED FANBASE! No other artist has given as much quality music to their fans as Prince. No one has released as much music as Prince....maybe that's why we can be let down so easily....maybe we're in denial.................[NOW I WILL END THIS RANT] neutral

Great as he may be, do we really need more songs about everybody wanting to be him? How well groomed he is? How he rocks the socks of every girls box? How many celebrities want to hang out at his parties?

Surely the Holy Scriptures address vanity somewhere? (No, I don't mean Denise Matthews, either.)
