Nope. Can't get with you on this one. In fact, the more I view this concert, the better it gets, if you can imagine that. You look at the bullshit that he calls giving a concert these days, and you'll see the brilliance of this show. He was at the peak of his powers here!!

i second you. i watch this show at least once a week. the breakneck speed of the first set is breathtaking, sheila banging the fuck out of those drums, the band turn from the soul of adore to the punk swing of jack u off within 10mins. when you place it within the concept of the black album/lovesexy story it stands as a work of utter genius, the greatest live recording of prince's career. sadly after this the poster got his wish and prince ditched the theatrics and just let the band play, giving us the snoozefests of w2a.

Exactly! They wanted simply just the music? Well, that's what they've been getting for over a decade now and for the most part, it's been pretty boring. It's called SHOWmanship for a reason, and he was exhibiting it in spades at this point. Not only was the music on point (which is much more than I can say is the case for these W2A shows), but the energy and show aspect of the Lovesexy show was also off the charts. You felt like you better not blink, or you'll miss something good. These days, I could close my eyes for the entire concert and know I haven't missed a thing! confused

I saw it live and when it was broadcasted on tv and both times it really hit me hard. Sometimes when i look at it, i still get shivers. It was nasty, funky, funny, crazy and all over the top.

But if you say you already find the outfits ridiculous, i guess you're just not into this Lovesexy theme....i adore the outfits!

I like the LoveSexy Tour a lot, but it gets too much hype. Act I/II Tour, Musicology Tour, Sign "O" The Times Tour, Nude Tour and Parade Tour were all better.

Musicology?? Nude Tour? Act I/II?? Lovesexy shits on all of those! Parade & SOTT tours, though, I can't really say. They were pretty fuckin' good in there own right. And to be honest, the Musicology tour shouldn't even be in the same breath/vicinity as the others you mentioned. It's not even in the same world, a much inferior one at that.

Nostalgia is a powerful thing. neutral You should listen to a Musicology Tour boot again.

LoveSexy is still a star star star star star quality tour, but it was too over the top for my tastes. Although I'm very impressed with the sheer amount of effort and time Prince and the band must have gone through to get those dance moves right.

eye'm a fan of medleys, but even eye think he over did them on that tour. The 1st half of the show was pretty much 1 big medley. eye don't think medleys should be that long.

This thread: overrated?

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I still have the original VHS tape that I used to record this Prince concert that was broadcasted live on European television in 1988.

Yesterday I watched it again (after it had been gathering dust for years and years), but, as cool and magnificent as I remember the concert to be that I had attended in Rotterdam that same year, it didn't do much for me.

Yeah, technically the band was quite good, but the show as a whole seemed forced. There was way too much unconvincing (amateuristic) and unnecessary "theatre" going on. That did not only add much to the show, even worse, it actually distracted from the band's performance.

Also some of his outfits look ridiculous! And OMG, doesn't Prince look scarily tired and skinny?!?! He looks like Gregory from the much loved track "Anastesia", if you ask me. I think this is one of his scariest looks, to be honest. His eyes look posessed in some shots!!!

All n all I have to say that the performances by the Revolution that I've been watching in recent weeks were way better and more entertaining than this performance. This Lovesexy performance would have been a much better concert if he had got rid of all the props and theatre, and just play the music as a band on stage.

Anyway, it was still quite entertaing to watch, but I must say I was much less impressed by it than I was back in the day.

are u blind?

4 me it was prince @ his best

beg 2 differ dude

I saw two Musicology tour dates in Houston on two consecutive days. One was okay. The other one just hit everything right, and flowed and varied, and I'd say was intensely fun as anything before. Certainly it was more like a mainstream people friendly party concept, but it worked that night.

Actually, I've recently listened to a couple of Musicology boots over the past couple of weeks, and there was really nothing overly "exceptional" about them. I mean, they were okay, but just not hitting it out of the park like the tours I mentioned above. The Vegasy parts of his performances were REALLY starting to show with this tour. And, it's been downhill ever since, esp when he saw what and how much the public were willing to eat up.

I agree, the Lovesexy tour is Prince's best tour.I remember on Friday,November 11,1988,walking out of that arena in a daze.I had seen the most amazing concert ever and I knew that nothing would ever top it.The recent tours don't even come close.

I agree abit

I prefer the SOTT shows 2 the Lovesexy shows, There were parts there were really good and other parts that because I couldn't see the band together was not as good. I love the outfits (ALL) love the look and era. I like the medley ...esp Condition of the Heart

I think I could not follow the theatrics of this one, trying to continue a (love) story line similar to SOTT in this one didn't work as well for me. Who are the love interests? Didn't like the Adore segment, Love the car ride in and car ride out

Laredotornado

Hi,

I am from holland and I went to that concert in Germany in 1988.

Probably 90% procent of the audience was Dutch because Prince liked the Dutch people so much that almost all the tickets were sold in Holland by his request.

Yo can hear clearly many times here the crowd shout: 'Holland Holland'.

Anyway, especially for this concert I bought a laserdiscplayer and the laserdisc of that concert and 23 years later it still works and I enjoy the concert still over and over again.

Prince LoveSexy in Dortmund 1988 overrated?

I dont think so.

Greetings

Rob
