First Avenue 86 (New 4DaFunk) First Avenue March 3rd 1986 - Parade Tour Warm Up gig
It's out!
One of the best concerts ever played by Prince and The Revolution in the best version ever known to mankind.
And, as always, for free.
Go get it before other people press it and offer it for money.

This has to be one of the best shows of the Parade era, and a personal favorite of mine. A delicious Alexa De Paris, a spine tingling Purple Rain, a monster 16min America, and to have it in this sound quality is the dogs bollocks. Boot of the year (so far).

I still have this on vinyl. It´s called "Veni, vidi, vici". So, why do you say that one has to hurry up before the other bootleggers charge money for this? Does that mean that this is only available online for a limited time? Excuse my ignorance, but I still haven´t figured out how to find the 4DaFunk downloads, hence my question. Is the sound quality that much better than the vinyl version that I already have?
This is one of my favorite shows. Not only because of the setlist but also because of the overall vibe during that show. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

This is a totally new source from the Veni, Vidi, Vici version, the sound quality on the new 4DF release is amazing.

anyone know what 4DF's releases coded 081, 082 and 083 were?

As far as I know, 4DF081-82 hasn't been shared yet.
I'm not so sure about 4DF083. I will try to find out.

That one is also available on CD. Keep the vinyl because old vinyl boots are very nice collectibles, but I assure you that when you listen to this source you will never play VVV ever again!

Major upgrade from a concert in his glory years, awesome artwork, all for FREE. What more can you ask? Busy doin' something close to nothing

I'll say it before the usual plebs do. I bet Prince is behind this.

The same guy who charges $77 for a T Shirt, and then further makes fun of the situation by putting 77 tracks on 20Ten, the guy who is charging a fortune for tickets in a recession....just gave away a great recording? Not likely, but with Prince, damb near anything is possilbe. This is a guy who created Anna Stesia, When Doves Cry, If I Was Your Girlfriend, and a guy who let Tony M in the band.
Who knows? My computer doesn't download worth crap, so I'll probably never hear this 4Da Funk release. I'm sad

May I ask where that intelligent 'bet' comes from?
If you're serious about that I can swear you have no clue what you're talking about.

Yeah, sure...
Great news! You mean you're gonna actually hear what we play tonight? You're not gonna make up the notes in your mind?

Utterly incorrect. The 1994 DAT was one of those so-called joint ventures which was released in a collaboration with someone called Enfant Terrible who submitted the source. Thus -as all the rest of the 4DF joint ventures- it doesn't have a catalogue number and is not a part of the 'official' (a...huum...) 4DF roster.
4DF081-82 is to be shared immediately, and it'll be a very welcome surprise. Not an uncirculating source this time, but a sort of matrix mix made from 2 existing sources for one of the best concerts of the 90s.
4DF083 will also be released sometime soon, but I'm unsure what will it be.
My take is that they probably changed the order of the releases so that FA86 saw the light in the month of its 25th anniversary but for some reason decided not to alter the numbering.

Damn that looks good. I hope it sounds as good as it looks. That is a great show! The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. I've heard of this before, is it a soundboard recording?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
No. | |

I hope the audience isn't too annoying.

Aaaw snaps. thanks for some real info! Finally get some good news in here. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

It actually is a soundboard recording. The audio is taken from the circulating video, which was filmed from a tripod in the dj booth by one of Prince's camera. The sound is kinda rough which gives the appearance of an audience recording, but it is definitely soundboard. Kinda like the Controversy Houston 1981 show. Rough sound, but soundboard nonetheless...
