It actually is a soundboard recording. The audio is taken from the circulating video, which was filmed from a tripod in the dj booth by one of Prince's camera. The sound is kinda rough which gives the appearance of an audience recording, but it is definitely soundboard. Kinda like the Controversy Houston 1981 show. Rough sound, but soundboard nonetheless...

no it's not

it's taken from a 'lower generation tape'

not from the video

Exactly.

Just got this and it is definitely one of my favorite recordings of all time. I've had the "VVV" set for a long time and I've never given it the full listen it demanded. "Mutiny" into "Dream Factory"? What!!??

Insane boot. Hadn't listened to this gig in ages, and this recording is just... wow. The Parade shows were pretty damn awesome, but this "extended version" just slays.

"Alexa De Paris" - WTF

"The Revolution is here!"

"America" including snippets from "Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)" and a gazillion other tunes.

Can somebody please play this to Prince and remind him that he used to be AWESOME? "Look Prince: TUNES! MUSIC! FUN! SONGS!"

Some SOAB (French, not that it's a surprise...) is already offering this boot (and the other new 4DF) for money on ebay.

Don't get fooled, don't go the easy route and -most of all- don't let these wankers cash in on somebody else's effort which was done to be enjoyed by all the fans FOR FREE.

If someone is to make profit from these recordings it should be PRINCE AND ONLY PRINCE. He doesn't want to put these out for a profit? Well, then the fans will do, but just for the sheer enjoyment of sharing his best moments in the best possible quality (and devoid of make-up) and not to make a living off it.

This can be obtained ABSOLUTELY FOR FREE from a lot of places on the internet (but not at all this one, btw). If downloading is such a pain in the arse for some then you can always set up one of those nice old skool TRADES whereby you get sent this recording in excange for another one you have and the sender may be lacking. Again, no money exchange AT ALL.

It's already more than enough when the two main pressing labels steal the works of the fans but at least they're offering it pressed (but with a huge margin for themselves, of course). But paying for CDr copies is far beyond the line.

Don't be fooled. Don't be fools.

Amen!! This was just, all around. a fun and funky gig! I'm going to have to pop the video in after listening to this earlier this week. I absolutely LOVE this version of "Paisley Park", too!

And, Prince's ego wouldn't even allow him to wanna see stuff like this again! Maybe that's why he hates putting older stuff (live and studio) out because it painfully reminds him how boring he and his shows/band truly are these days. Lol!

^I just meant that, even if using different nicks, it's mostly always the very same guy, who lives in France and who is a shameless SOAB.

Yeah, I was not aware until a couple of months ago that he was using different names to flog this stuff.

The sad thing is, there will be plenty of people willing to pay him for these recordings.

^That is what I can't understand.

Even if it's more convenient for some, just the fact of not helping this individual get a profit from that stuff should encourage everybody to do some homework.

What's more, doing the search and keeping up with stuff takes a good % of the joy and fun of it all!!!

I agree, after a little effort, finally getting the music on your computer and giving it it's first blast makes it a little more rewarding than just clicking "buy now" on ebay, at least for me it is.

And lets face it, if people are able to log onto the internet, log onto paypal and get an account, then go onto ebay and search for these things, buy it, and get it delivered to their home, then surely to fuck they can work out how to download things and listen to them for FREE.

lol

I can hear the "but I prefer to see my collection" arguments simmering away. lol

Yes, "used to be". Don't pretend that his current lame-ass gigs are anywhere near this REHEARSAL gig.

Prince has done NOTHING in the past 15 years that is worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as this gig. Which was a warm-up gig, P and his band (back when he had a BAND and not just a bunch of rotating musicians) just showing of what they'd learned IN A WEEK.

These days he labels entire tours as rehearsals and despite playing the same old crap over and over they still can't maange to sound better than a cover band.

No one will know for certain how long they had been in rehearsal, as well as working on Jill Jones' album at Sunset Sound, Prince was also in rehearsal with the Revolution during mid to late February, so it is quite posssible that they had only rehearsed for a week.

But what does it matter? The music, despite a couple of hiccups is phenominal.
