I doubt it just slipped his mind. Companies don't resort to suing as Plan A when trying to collect money owed. Hell, even the cable company will send out a couple of those "Friendly Reminder: Payment is Past Due" notices before they shut off your cable. I'm sure the firm has, no doubt, made several attemmps to collect--all of which have gone ignored.

Yes, it is quite obvious and very apparent that Prince can make and has made that little bit of a "not big deal for Prince" money without even thinking about it. Since that IS the case, the question that really NEEDS to be asked IS...

Why in the fuck is it...that he has to repeatedly be SUED into paying what he owes? confuse hmmm

That's what I'm sayin'! For a guy who's all about getting paid himself, he sure does not like paying other people.

At this point...with over 30 years of active spectating under my belt...the only logical conclusion I can come up with is...basically Prince is just seriously a "do as I say...not as I do" kind of guy. shrug

For a Law Firm to sue THEIR high profile client for non-payment...you can trust and believe...every other attempt at collection of payment has already been exhausted to no avail. nod

It would be unfair to expect that a man so gifted in all things music could also be talented in the ways of commerce. They are just polar opposites.

I love P to death, but would never work for him unless it was cash on the barrell head.

Oh, this means another leg added to his tour.

Wouldn't it slip yours if you had thousands of checks to write? I mean he is amazing, but he isn't superman, he is entitled to, more than normal folks, to forget to pay a bill. He's busy!

I'm not rich and definately don't have as many bills as Prince has, but I forget to pay bills all the time! cause I'm so busy! I'm usually on the last day to pay it. I've even woken up with no cell service a few times. lol Then I realize,"darnit, forgot to pay". Call with CC and pay. Bam, no biggie!

C'mon, if he dooesn't write his own checks, then you can't blame him. If he does, then you can't blame him either really since he is obviously a busy man. It happens, he will pay, when he wants if he feels he owes them..P will take care of this..

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

This would be the logical thing to do...except he may not trust anyone with his money. Not to mention, this is another paycheck he'd have to sign. P grew up hard, he is just tight with his cash...except when it comes to his ladies. If its owed, he won't have a choice but to pay up, plus cover court costs. It will be his lost in the end, so I don't see the big deal about it. I'm sure no one at this firm is starving (if they are dealing with a celeb, they are probably overpaid anyway) so they will get their cash.

I gotta say this....all those people saying he's a busy man...yeah ok....how busy? Sure he plays a few shows a year (less lately than ever in his career almost)...but I gotta ask...from day to day what is he doing that makes him so busy...

we all are busy...Does prince go to the supermarket? NO...How often do you see him in the malls shopping and doing the 'normal' day to day stuff? NEVER...well ALMOST NEVER...does Prince have kids to look after/organise/send to school/take to the doctors etc etc? NO... he runs his own business ...yeah, but really is it an everyday thing where he has meetings/time schedules and deadlines etc...NOT REALLY.....rehearsals/recording/writing etc must take a lot out of a guy, but hell, other people do that and keep a day job....he is (or was) always very busy in the studio in th past...but IS HE NOW? EVERY DAY? EVERY HOUR? to the point where he just doesn't have time to pay the bills?

I guess you could argue it takes a while to put on his makeup, do his hair and organise what he and Misty are gonna wear..but really .... why do people think he's just so damn busy...

most other 'stars' either pay their bills or hire good people to do it for them... being busy is definitely not his reason for all these lawsuits..

the reason is simple...it's not that time is a trick - it's cos he doesn't want to part with his money...he thinks that other people don't deserve to be paid for their work... also by holding onto his money for longer he gains interest on it while its in the bank...so the longer he waits the more he'll earn..so when he does finally pay-up it's not costing him so much...

gotta laugh when you think that he covered 'When Will We Be Paid'...hell, he even played it not too long ago!

The firm represented Prince in a New York case where a perfume company sued him for failing to promote "3121", which was billed as a "sexy scent" packaged in a purple box.

Its lawyers also worked on finalizing his divorce; on suits for concerts he canceled in Dublin and California; and when he sued over a rented Beverly Hills mansion.

The litigious little man also got sued in 2006 by NBA star Carlos Boozer for adding too much purple, '3121' and his famous symbol to the jock's Hollywood home, which he was renting for $70,000 a month.

This law firm apparently represented Prince last year, in some of his worst cases.

He needed to pay up in all of them, but he hasn't paid mr. Desmond for the cancelled 2008 Dublin gig either.

He has gone after him with a European court order.

When will he be paid Prince? disbelief

I agree. There are many celebrities who are probably "busier" than Prince is and they still pay their bills. Some fans on this thread have said that he "has alot of bills" and probably just can't keep up with all of them...LMAO...that's no excuse! He can hire people to do that for him.

I have no doubt Prince is an exceptionally busy man and take issue with the idea that he doesn't have much to do, just a few shows here and there (seriously?!!)

Although I doubt it, I also could believe that he insists on handling certain aspects of his finances himself, for various reasons.

I don't think either of those factors have anything to do with how this situations come to be though.

As has been said, this would be an absolute last resort for any firm, law firms included. The fact that this happens so often suggests that it's actually a business practice of Prince's, not an oversight.

I wonder how long before he runs out of law firms that are willing to represent him (particularly against other law firms) without consistent up-front payment...

SAY WHAT!?

He still hasn't paid for the Dublin Disaster yet?

I mean, after both the 20Ten Euro tours? (which were strictly a money-making effort when you look at ways the tour was organised and the material played)

Is he ill?

Or why is the law so slow in getting around to force him to pay up?

I.e.: Seize the Park?

He gets 1.5 million a show I cannot figure out why so many people on this board think that P sits around paying his own bills.

That isn't the point. If he makes 1.5 million a show, he should have no problem paying his bills.

Furthermore, he should have no problem hiring someone to pay his bills.

Even FURTHERMORE, should that person happen to let, oh, MOST bills get into arrears then he should have no problem FIRING that person and HIRING someone else.

In the US, seizing the park would not happen because 1) it wasn't offered up as collateral and 2) his wages would be garnished first. His wages won't be garnished cuz he is Prince. And in the US, a judge can enter a judgment saying you owe someone 5 million bucks, but that doesn't mean you have to pay it. It's just a judgment saying you owe it.

The petitioner can petition to have your wages garnished, but it would need to stand up in court. I doubt a judge is going to garnish a megastar's wages over this stuff.

The telling part for me about his financial problems, is that they are seemingly all based or stem from his egotism. Not because he has fallen on hard times. The concert in Ireland and the ensuing lawsuit, the perfume and the ensuing lawsuit, his *marriage and the ensuing divorce, his battles with Warner Bros, his stance against in the music business...and the related attorney fees related to all of the above.

His ego is not his friend. And it's expensive too.

Seriously, is Prince trying to prove a point or does he not have a responsible team in place to take care of this shit?
