Prince Donates $1.5 Million To New York Organisations

Soul superstar PRINCE has handed out $1.5 million (£1 million) to charitable causes during his string of concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The Purple Rain icon wrapped up his residency at the fabled venue on Monday (07Feb11), with stars including Whoopi Goldberg, The Roots drummer Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson and socialite Kim Kardashian among the fans in the audience.

The singer has marked the end of the gigs by donating $1 million (£666,670) to educational charity the Harlem Children's Zone, and a further $250,000 (£166,670) to both the American Ballet Theatre and the Uptown Dance Academy in the Big Apple.

And Prince's kind gestures earned him a special mention from Goldberg as she co-hosted daytime talk show The View on Tuesday (08Feb11), praising him for his generosity.

She told viewers, "I just had to shout it out because he's very low key, but he's going around, all over the country, as he's touring, to find places where he feels he can help."

Glad Prince is finally getting recognized
for his charitable work and not negativity...

Prince does not like to be known for his charitable works, but maximum respect to him.

It is always positive when artists who have the ability, give back to the community. As

a fan for many years, this gesture makes me love and appreciate Prince's art even more.

Here is the link for the Harlem's Children's Zone, in case any one wants to know what it is about.

They do some really amazing works, and I think it was a great choice of NPO for Prince to support.

Sure is. I just found out from one of my co-workers, who lives in Harlem, that her grandson was lucky to be chosen through a lottery system, to get into one of the schools named Promise Academy, that's one of the schools under the HCZ project. He'lll be attending Promise Academy, and will be starting Kindergarten in September 2011, and will be in Promise Academy through 12th grade. She said her daughter was lucky that her son was chosen, because so many parents are trying to get their kids in one of those schools.

Yes, she's been telling everyone about it all day lol and when she mentioned HCZ, I remembered this was one of the organizations Prince gave donations to.
