Good album, and one that needs to be listened to as a whole, which isn't something you can say about most of his albums from the last many, many years.

It's saddled with some quasi-religious and spiritual mumbo jumbo and a lot of lite jazz tendencies, but overall it's good. You can at least tell that he was inspired. And put a lot of thought and effort into it. Again, something you can't say about most of his albums from the last, say, 15 years or so.

sure theres lots of talk about the voice or theme and blah blah blah .. but the fact is its not a strong album at all .. lyrically he skips from quoting the bible to talking about sex toys .. in the same song .. the low voice narrations are exceptionally bad and ruins the title song which is actually one of the highlights of this record .. the 'work' is ok as is 'she loves me for me' but compared to say .. 'god' or 'the ladder' or any of his numerous other spiritual or even christian songs, this record sucks

i will take 'elephants and flowers' or 'the question of u' over this whole record any day

i really like the production .. instrumentation is soft and warm and organic sounding which is refreshing after all those alluminum can recordings that came out of the npgmc years .. but musically its still very bland and cartoonish .. and i cannot express enough how bad prince sounds when he is trying to kick as a rock or grunge band .. 'dreamer' failed as does 'family name' .. prince has skills but he is no jimi hendrix by a long shot .. prince writes better music sometimes but his tone and sound fail .. he just doesn't get heavy rock yet .. oh well

in conclusion .. i would strongly recommend you save ur money and skip this one .. buy all his wb prince releases first

to say the record sucks and isn't stong i can live with that, but to call it "musically bland" is just talking utter rubbish. WTF..."heavy rock"?... confuse

Reproduction of the new breed leader - stand up, organize

If like Sheba, she then could bring presents and wine
The helix - he might get between them
In other words - intertwine
With the ebony and milk of her thighs

Can I sing 2 U while U bring yourself 2 joy?
I'll go slow at first, while U quench your thirst
Wet circles around the toy
While U bring yourself 2 joy

Say baby, I'm feelin' 2 play with my thang (Play with it)
Play with it

For me, The Everylasting Now is one of the best Prince songs of the last 20 years. "She Loves Me 4 Me" is on that list also.

Borrow someone's and check it out. I was about ready to ditch listening to Prince until this album came out, it followed what I felt was a long rut he had dived in to, and one that I think he has fallen in to again as digs deeper to explore the bottom of the barrel.

It is dipped in what was his new found faith convictions, but I would not label it a praise and worship album. It's Prince being inspired, and I think that always makes it worth listening. Let's hope one day soon he is inspired again, and I mean truly inspired in his heart, or whatever part of his anatomy releases his genius.

We are all so full of doody here

Classics: The Work Pt., Everlasting Now

Good Songs: Everywhere, Digital Garden, 1+1+1=3

Forced: Last December, Sensual Everafter

Average: Muse 2 The Pharaoh, Mellow, Rainbow Children

Awful: Family Name, She Loves Me 4 Me, Wedding Feast, Deconstruction

Music/Production: 4 stars out of 5

Flow: 1 out of 5 (working with Darth Vader was not a good idea, there are better singers out there...)

Lyrics: 1,5 out of 5

Enjoyment: 2 out of 5

Overall: 2.5 stars out of 5

Hell to the No, perfect example of why you must cop this cd and judge for yourself. She Loves Me 4 Me is sublime

man, I've given the Rainbow Children not two, BUT 5 CHANCES, and sorry, this album is, was and will be, for me, just a barely interesting curiosity...

erase the ballads, erase the Darth Vader voice, erase the bs lyrics and add more jams like The Work or Everlasting Now and then I'd probably be a fan of the album

but as it stands... NO confused I can live without Muse, Mellow, She Loves Me 4 Me, etc and I don't really need to listen to the title-track or Sensual Everafter ever again

meh...

V10LETBLUES

I would highly reccomend this album if you can say yes to ALL of the below.

You really LOVE prince 90's work.

You like silly heavy-handed production flourishes.

Listening to Prince never ever makes you cringe.

You LOVE light 70's fusion jazz.

Like your music sprinkled with religious dogma

You suffer from acute deafness.

You are not well versed in another types of music or other artists. And in fact have contempt for music.

or might i add to the last post; you take other ppls opinions as your own, share their same idiosyncrasies, have no mind of your own, and are opposed to creative concept albums

1. I don't think this music sound anythig like his 90's work

2. I think is 1990's work was more heavy handed this album has continuity

3. ?

4. This album has touches of his earlier work... She Loves Me 4 Me has similar feel to ballad on his 1st 2 albums

5. So you don't like the 'religious' play during the Purple Rain years, the Ladder, the Cross, Lovesexy tour

Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise,
Flying upon the wings of the New Translation
See them fly, fly
The covenant will b kept this time
Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise

Rainbow children, it's time 2 rise!
Rainbow children, it's time 2 rise!

As prophesied, the Wise One and his woman were tempted by the Resistor. He,
knowing full well the Wise One's love 4 God, assimilated the woman first and
only. Quite naturally, chaos ensued and she and 5 others were banished from
the rainbow.4ever.

Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise
Flying upon the wings of the New Translation

Who is ur real father?
The everlasting one
The one who came from nothing
And yet from this one, everything comes

The one who commands ur momma
With the simple phrase "I am"
And every time that she obeys
She gives birth 2 the Son of Man
Who is this?

Reproduction of the new breed leader/Stand up and organize!
Reproduction of the new breed leader/Stand up and organize!

The Agreement-
With every birth, we keep it so/Never changing one piece of it
In fear of what would unfold/The scales would then become unbalanced
And thus would begin the fall/The sin of one would become
The sin of one and all

Rise, rise, rise.
Rise, Rainbow Children, rise
Rise, Rainbow Children, rise

The Wise One who understood the law that was handed down from God long ago,
held fast in his belief that the Lord would bring him another one who loved him so.

I have a question; I keep hearing people talk about the Rainbow Children on here, some people love it and some people hate it- My question is; is it a Christian album? I think someone on here said it was about the Jehovah's Witnesses? Should I get it or save my money? Thanks-

Btw, I like Chritian type albums so I don't have a problem with that smile

This is the best album he made the last decade....
