The Prince Opus: What happened?

The question of what has happened to The Prince Opus has not been answered. Has anyone recieved theirs yet? Have you heard any word from Kraken Opus? Its been almost two years now since it was announced. The site is is sill up: http://www.princeopus.com/ But they seem strangely silent about it. Has anyone recieved a refund for their purchase? Any info at all....

It seems to have sank in the sea of abandoned Prince projects.

The price was completely ridiculous, so I'm hoping nobody purchased it. If they did, I'd bet most people wouldn't post about it after they received it and did an, "ahhh, dang". But if it can still be put in a cart and paid for on the site one would have to assume that it's still available. If anybody really wanted to know I suppose they could just call the people who produced it and ask.

I asked about the 1st one made, that was going 2 be auctioned off, it had the Symbol pendant that could be removed and worn on a chain but nobody seemed 2 know about that either. I was curious 2 find out how much it sold for. lol

Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!

I think it came down to a lack of pre-orders. I remember reading on the site some clause saying that they wouldn't ship until they had x number of pre-orders, and given the ridiculous price, it's not surprising it never eventuated.

I believe I put the over/under on number of units sold at 10 1/2. Which, in retrospect, was way too high.

Yeah probably, although diehard collectors would be wanting the book real bad! But are they willing 2 fork out $2,100 for the privilege of owning one, obviously not!!

I'll tell ya but if I had $$$$$$$$$, i would have bidded on that 1st Edition for sure!!!

We are talking about a book that you could 2 order for the grand sum of $2,100. The 1st edition was being auctioned off it had a pendant of Princes Symbol that u could remove & wear if u wanted 2 & if my memory serves me correctly there were only 950 of them being produced. From what i could gather it was the 21 nights book with some extra pics and info & a fancy cover. U can check it out by googling Prince Opus.

This gives the content http://www.princeopus.com/

On a related note i saw 21 nights at Borders for $4.99. Wonder how many people bought that? I got mine for my birthday, listened to the cd once & never reopened the book again.

And through that link you can still add it to your cart and proceed to checkout. I went so far as to get to the point where personal information is required. Unless somebody calls or emails the company directly and gets an official response I'm pretty sure they ARE still available. Which means SOMEBODY must have purchased SOME of them but they're not Org members or they're too chicken to admit it. lol

They also have other books for sale right now that cost more and have higher print runs. Which actually makes this one a deal.... lol ohgoon

LOL! Yeah it is , though u would still have 2 be hardcore 2 the max 2 part with $2,100!

If someone who bought the book & has received it ever posted on this site the thread would be inundated with questions about it!!!

My first ? would be " So, do u feel it is worth the money?"!

While there is alot of pics & footage that isn't in the released version of it,I'd be a bit dirty on the fact that perhaps 80% of it is available 2 the public, i just think that if i'm paying $2,100 for a publication then i would want exclusivity apart from the other 945 copies made!!!!

Kraken Opus/Kraken Media Group's Customer Service....

"A MUST READ:

For almost the last year, most of us have been communicating with the CEO/Founder, Karl Fowler...

Recently,
I have received word of people getting failure notices for both Andy and Karl's emails (but not the Enquiries and secretary's (Lara) emails). This is from customers who have purchased the following titles from Kraken Media Group (et al): MLB Opus, Prince Opus, MJ Opus.

At first I suspected a repeat of what happened last year this time, their email servers were overloaded. This now does not appear to be the case.

For those who purchased the above mentioned Opus titles-- mind you, paying good money for them -- there's been a slight change.

Karl Fowler changed his email address instead of dealing with his customers.

NICE;

There are still customers waiting for refunds for the Prince Opus, at least one person waiting for the MLB Opus (as I suspect there are more than one), and many around the world still waiting for their The Official Michael Jackson Opus or a replacement which was promised due to damage.

The Prince Opus customers have been waiting now since April 2009.
The MJ Opus customers have been waiting now since December 2009.
The MLB Opus customers have been waiting now since October 2010.

If you purchased by credit card, whether you want a refund or not- contact your credit card company and file a complaint against Kraken Opus. If it were me, I would be filing a FRAUD complaint. VISA has been to my blog many times and they have refunded MANY customers. If your credit card company says the time has lapsed, tell them you want to talk to their supervisor. If that doesn't work, then talk to THEIR supervisor. Hell, go up to the Vice President of Customer Service. DEMAND your credit card company investigate this."

I didn't have any problem with the MJ Opus. But then, that was a hell of a lot cheaper than being stiffed for $2100. confused

$2100 for a book of medicore photos and an iPod? For $2100 a book needs to have letterpressed text, be hand-bound, and come with a goatskin slipcase.

I can see why the Kraken Opus business model tanked. Next time Prince does a book deal he needs to work with Taschen.

I want to know about the iPod? Don't get why you would by an iPod with music on it that you buy elsewhere. But what was that with 40 minutes video footage from the o2 concerts? Would love to see that!

I question that even if I had the $ for the opus, I wonder if I would have bought it. I pride myself in saying and considering myself a collector but, the price tag on this was 'InSaNe' ... LoL

Dear everybody,

Yes, the Prince Opus turns out to be a drama. Almost in the beginning ( 17 april 2009) I ordered and paid (Yes; $ 2100,--) this special book.

Maybe a lot of you think I'm crazy and that's why I feel the need to explain. I saw Prince for the first time at a concert in 1988, Holland. I started to like his music and since then I've been to (a close) 100 concerts and after shows all over the world and collecting his music. I was invited to his house (studio) for a week in Minneapolis (21 -28 June 2002) and saw him every day during that week. During the day access to the studio's and conversations with the people he works with.

Every evening a concert by every evening a different group and after this every evening a different full concert by Prince. Everything for a lousy $ 250,--. I play his music in good times, in bad times and in between. I can go on and on here with interesting stories but let's just say that I know that he is a nice guy from experience. That's why I bought the book. Although that's what I thought.

Back to the book;

I received a receipt from Kraken OPUS with the message that they would deliver the book as soon as possible. But unfortunately as soon as possible is a flexible period. Till this moment I received nothing. It's almost two years and I think I waited long enough and I'm asking my money back now. If they don't pay me back I have a good reason to visit London again. wink

How did this 21 nights deal work? I don't know exactly but I think that Prince sold the rights about the 21 Nights photo's to Kraken Opus and they had to print and deliver the book after they sold enough copies. And this never happened.

A little while later after I paid the $ 2100,-- I received information about a "big book with a lot of photo's of Prince including an extraordinary Live CD about the 21 nights"?!. I did not see this book or its content but I bought it because it was cheap anyway (we are talking about 30 pounds at that moment).

If somebody knows how it's possible please let me know because I still don't understand. This book is an alternative for the Kraken Opus one. And Prince is not going to court (because it's still available) so it much be a legal print. Did Prince also sell his rights to others? The photo's are professional taken and it looks that they are the same as used for the official Kraken Opus book. This one is made in China, has a hard cover, very big (coffee-table) size and has no I-pod nor diamonds wink

The rest is just sublime! As I said, it's a very good alternative. Including a suberb live cd from the 21 nights in London. 256 full color pages and still available;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/e...childnet0a

So, if I were you, I would not even hasitate. That's what I know about Kraken Opus.

Hope to hear something if somebody knows more inside information, also in a direct post possible off-course. I'll inform you all when the refund from Kraken Opus is succesfull.

Stay well and keep the funk alive!

The project was led by Ruth, his old PA (you can see her in the 21 Nights book).

When Ruth left, the project died - I fail to see why Opus aren't giving refunds.
