LRC isn't my favorite Prince song, but everything about it is perfect. It's sheer genious.

It's hip. It's edgy. It's sexuality. It's sensuality. It's the epitome of rock n' roll.

He lures us in with a hint of mystery, and then rocks the fuck out of us.

The metaphor itsself of comparing her to a sleek and sexy car, is magnificent, and the song takes us on a tale of lust... and surprisingly enough... guidance. (Baby you're much too fast... and "Honey, you got to slow down".)

The LP version with the break... "Girl, you got an ass like I never dreamed. And the ride is so sweet, you must be a limousine" ... is AMAZING!

The hook... the delivery... the classic Minneapolis sound... and the fact that the song matures right along with us as we've matured and realize in our adulthood that he wasn't singing about a Chevrolet, is a stroke of brilliance.

Even his sinister method of fixing her... "Gimme the keys, I'm gonna try to tame your little red love machine." ... and "Girl, you got ass like I never dreamed... and the ride is so sweet, you must be a limousine" ... It's as though he's captivated... sucked in... and can't control himself because it's SO good... even after he tried to tame her!

So he's torn... because he appears to understand how "good" her poo-nanny is, and needs to share that fact with ALL of us... but he still insists that she slows down!

AMAZING SONG!! Simply PERFECT in every which way!!!!!!!!!!!

And one more thing... yes... he said "you must be a limousine". That's like... the sweetest of fine rides. The creme-de-la-creme. To tell a woman that she "must be a LIMOUSINE", after ALREADY comparing her to a beautiful classic fine-as-heck ride... which at the time... and maybe still is... the finest of American sports cars... is just creatively OVER THE TOP!!

And what? he was 23 in 1981 when it was most likely written?? Unbelievable.

The song has also stood the test of time as a "pop/rock" icon. It's eternal!

If you have a song that you consider more perfect than this... please... by all means... argue your point!

Oops! Didn't see your thread before I posted "your favorite Prince song"--which is almost the same thing! Oh well! In case, I don't get responses on mine--my "perfect" song is "Days of Wild." To me, that song so completly encompasses Prince at the height of his musical ability and so describes his affinity to what was going on in the musical and social culture of the time. It is such a great song. Also on my perfection list is Annastecia, Shhh, Do Me Baby, Controversy.... Oh Damn! Time to stop! lol

The Beautiful Ones is a perfect ballad. It's got all the things a perfect ballad needs. The instrument use is really perfect for this kinda song; simple light beat, light background bass/synths, (electric) piano as main instrument. The emotion in his voice is astonishing great.

U Got The Look is also a perfect song. Sounds simple, funky, dreamy and direct at one time. The lyrics really are a perfect way to tell someone you like her/him. Catchy chorus too.

I must admit, LRC is a perfect song! I love it!! But there are others that really fit that bill too.... Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, The Beautiful Ones, Kiss, Electric Intercourse,The Question of You, Shhh, Scandalous, Insatiable, Pink Cashmere, Call My Name, Adore, TMBGITW, Thieves in the Temple, Blue Light, Somebody's Somebody, Eye Hate U, and plenty more. Prince has SOOOOO many perfect songs I am amazed just thinking about them!

Hey there... glad you mentioned Somebody's Somebody in that bunch. To be honest, that's the song that made me want to write this topic!

Some people (like you) lol... are getting carried away with naming TOO MANY songs... but you kinda have a point. There are many. I wanted people to state opinions on WHY it's his most perfect song, kinda like how I broke down LRC.

But again... just glad to see somebody appreciating Somebody's Somebody. LOVE that song. The live version, and the studio version are fantastic!! And so was his Rosie O'Donnell version.

Perfect. I could break it down in 5 paragraphs... lol... but I'll spare you. wink

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

Thanks. Little Red Corvette... as I mentioned... isn't my favorite Prince song. I just believe it's his most perfect song. It's flawless.

It's all a matter of opinion. Adore is my favorite Prince song, but I've always been a little uncomfortable with him saying "In a word, you were SEX". I kinda wished he'd saying something more special than "sex". For that reason, although Adore is my FAVORITE, in my honest opinion, it's not perfect.

Thanks for responding. wink

The Beautiful Ones is definitely up there, for it's boldness alone. When I was 12, I think I once listed to this song on my turntable 10x in a row! smile

Amazing tune. Sheer genious. Hard to find a flaw. wink

When i think about 'perfect' i am not really thinking about the song i personally like the most, but in the first place about the song which defines him most as an artist: musicwise, lyricwise and visionwise. A song that embraces all what his career has stand for till now on. I that sense I can't think of a better song then:

If I was Your Girlfriend.

Based on your interpretation, that's a REALLY good choice.

I'd have to think about that, though. Not sure what my pick would be based on your interpretation. There's so many to choose from! Two that come to mind are Paisley Park, and Play in the Sunshine. That's just off the top of my head.

I'd say Play in the Sunshine, because that song is just about jamming (without the help of a margarita or ecstacy.) As an artist, musicwise, lyricwise, and vision wise... that song is brilliant!!

"Sign up on the dotted line... we're gonna dance like it's gonna be the last time."

He also says "We're gonna be free", which is a common mindset of his to this day.

Prince has so many songs that are of that ilk, but this one I think, is more universal without the ROCK appeal. It gets the message across, as a jam that feels laid back... but rocks like crazy! smile

That's the essential Prince. wink
