Prince Cancels One NYC Show, Adds Another [villagevoice.com]

So Prince is coming to town soon, for a suite of shows at both Madison Square Garden and the Izod Center in New Jersey. First one was supposed to be December 14th at the latter. That show has been canceled. Ticketholders can either opt for "an email notification with a new seat location" for the following night's Izod show on Dec. 15 (look out you're not stuck behind a pole or something), or get a full refund and then priority access to a new show: January 18th at Madison Square Garden. As this is reliably confusing in a Prince sort of way, let's just run the whole release, plus the newly updated show dates below:

Due to overwhelming demand, Prince announced today that he is adding another Madison Square Garden show to the previously announced New York Area concerts. The two previously announced Madison Square Garden shows taking place on December 18th and December 29th sold out in less than 30 minutes. The new MSG show will take place on January 18th, 2011 with tickets going on sale December 10th at 12pm at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

Due to scheduling issues the first show at the IZOD Center on December 14th has been canceled. Ticket holders for the December 14th IZOD show will have several ticket options. They will automatically receive an email notification with a new seat location for the December 15th IZOD show which they can keep or receive a full refund at the point of purchase. If they prefer to buy tickets to the newly announced MSG date scheduled for January 18th, they will have access to presale tickets on Wednesday, December 8th from 10:00 am ET to10 pm ET.

Updated Tour Dates:

December 15, 2010 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center

December 17, 2010 East Rutherford, NJ Izod Center

December 18, 2010 New York, NY Madison Square Garden

December 29, 2010 New York, NY Madison Square Garden

January 18, 2010 New York, NY Madison Square Garden

I know this kinda of stuff happens for any number of reasons, but it just reaffirms why I will not EVER make a huge trip to see Prince in concert.

For anyone here who was only going to see him on the 14th and cannot re-arrange travel plans, this really sucks.

comfort

I'm firmly planted in denial

Well this is a pickle, cause I bought nosebleeds for the 12/14 show (for my friend and I) at the same time that I bought a floor seat to the 12/15 show. Now I have to tell her "Sorry, I'm sitting on the floor on 12/15 and getting a refund on my 12/14 tix!," cause I can't risk getting mediocre seats on 12/15 in exchange for my 12/14 tix. And I definitely can't risk trying to snag tix to the 1/18 show on 12/10 (which'll likely sell out just as quickly as the other Garden shows). It'd be great to see him at MSG again, but I'm not banking on securing tix during the 12/10 presale (and I'm out of town during the other MSG shows).

Man, I'd be pissed if I didn't have tix to the 12/14 and 12/15 and had to travel to NYC for the show. I just hope 12/15 doesn't get cancelled too!

The mods should "stickify" this to alert members who purchased tix to that show, so they could try and workout hotel/airline changes.

I know I'm a first time poster but I am not a troll. I am quite upset as I had section 2 for the 14th (it was to be my first time seeing Prince live). Now they are offering me section 108 for the following night. BIG DIFFERENCE, but sadly the BIG price-tag is still the same. Think about it though, if they have enough seats available on the 15th for EVERYONE who bought tickets for the 14th to claim, then each show was less than half sold to capacity. Sorry, the 'scheduling conflict' seems like a mask to me.

Are you sure it's only if you get a refund? The e-mail was vague, but I am under the impression that the pre-sale is available to ALL who got tickets for the canceled show. In fact in the e-mail we already got our exclusive 'one time only' passwords.

The presale is available to everyone who got an email with the code.

That's what I figured. Now I have to figure out what I'm going to do....

Hmmm, now I feel kinda silly for bragging to so many people what amazing seats I HAD *sigh*. (sorry to whine)

I just got the e-mail to. I dont know what I'm going to do. I had floor seats now they are trying to send me to section 106.I dont think that is fair. Would you recive the refund in time for the new show pre-sale? If you take the refund they should give you the option to take the money or credit toward the new show. sad

sigh What a mess.

Although, the presale is JUST for you guys, right? Before any other tickets go on sale? (if not, that's messed up, but it does sound like it's completely exclusive)

Maybe they will (should?) restrict everyone in the presale to only the number of tickets they are holding for the cancelled show, thus guaranteeing everyone gets the number of seats they were going to have anyway, hopefully as good as what they had originally, if not better (as they are the only ones competing for the good sections)

It's still far from ideal (particularly those who have to reschedule travel plans or just can't make it in Jan), and your last point had crossed my mind too, but that presale could end up being a really good deal for you - provided they manage it properly.

How did you buy the tickets originally? They mention getting the refund from the "point of purchase" - if you bought them online, there should be a way they can get the refund straight back onto your credit card. Surely they can get the refund back to you in time for the presale...

The presale is on December 8 and everyone who has the presale code can order up to four tickets, regardless of how many they bought for the other show.

It's definitely not a "scheduling conflict" that caused the 14th to be canceled. Agree with lmlyp that if they can offer everyone from the first show a seat at the second, then that's the entire reason they canceled the show.
