Original Rave unto The Joy Fantastic

I used to have a version of this from the 80's. It was really funky. Unfortunately my ex destroyed a lot of my rare Prince items. Anyone know where I can find this? I believe it was a B side from a single from the batman era.... i think

There is a 1988 studio version that's been out there for years. I have it, however the quality is very muddy at best. There is very little difference from the '88 version to the '99 version.

To me, the difference is huge! The version I had was much more upbeat and fun. the 99 version BLOWS!

I remember wearing that single out! Played it over and over!

Are you talking about "200 Balloons"? There's a sample of "Rave" in there. It was also a B-Side.

thanks alot, itd be interesting to see how this project would have done if it had been released. Then again Prince probably needed commercial success at the time and batman was the way to get it.

You could never have heard that on a single because it was never released as a single, unless you're talking about the bit on 200 Balloons.

The released version is exactly the same as the 1988 version. He just deleted an instrumental break with some eastern overtones on it.

Regarding the tracklist for the original 'Rave...' 1988 album it was never completely clear. There was at least two probable tracklists and some songs were slated for this project as well as for some early configs of 'Graffiti Bridge'.

Some years ago there was a 'version' of the 'album' circulating on p2p that was nothing but a poor fan-made cut&paste effort. Instead of 'Stimulation' (which has never circulated) he'd put one of the early Loring Park instrumentals. Lame as hell.

Prince could have done both, it's not like it took a lot of time to do Batman

Rave would have been successful, music wise it would have been better than Lovesexy, Cat prob would have stayed, prob wouldn't have had the disagreement with Sheila on the direction of her album etc etc

true, rave would have probably performed well and gotten good critical reviews. And he could have done both, but i am not sure if releasing two albums in the same year would have been a good idea

Sorry but I can't see how can you infer that Cat would've stayed and he and Sheila wouldn't have argued about her album had he released Rave...

o i forgot lol. But i do think releasing two albums a year would be kind of overexposing for any artist. Anyway looking at this tracklist, rave would have been a pretty good album.

You may be thinking of Batdance (The Batmix)...

A lot more Rave Un2 on this particular version.

Well.. I do know for a FACT that it was on a single. And it was called Rave unto the joy fantastic. It was a Bside. And no, it was NOT 200 balloons

I not, that was just a crazy time for me as a Prince fan,

I know they knew about the Graffiti Bridge project, and probably thought it was going to be crap like everyone else did

the direction of her next album in correlation with the GB project might of stunk
