Interesting. I guess digging this out of her box of old tapes and bubblewrap bras will get her a few extra sales from rabid Prince collectors.

Reading the lyrics, Prince really must have been into Ecstasy(X)! Surely written around the 87-89 era.

I believe forcing someone to listen to "Simon Simon" should be classified in the same category as waterboarding.

Is there a list of people who recorded on Paisley Park Records? Had no idea she was a part of it, and prob. would've passed on it if I saw it on the stores at the time. Few of the early 80s new wave bands made it to the late 80s, even though Missing Persons was actually a fake new wave band made from Zappa's crew, Buggles were also a fake band,

From Wiki ( http://en.wikipedia.org/w...her_albums ). Though, it's obviously missing at least the Jacob Armen release.:

Also check out http://www.thedawnexperie...k/1993.htm for info on how much Prince involvement is present for year-by-year associated releases.

Other albums

Note: all titles were distributed by Warner Bros. Records, except for those denoted with §, which were distributed by sister label Reprise Records.

Fake band? How so?

I mean they were not like Duran Duran or Depeche Mode when they started out... new romantic synth pop groups.

Missing Persons was a "supergroup" (one of which, Warren Cucurullo, wound up with Duran Duran in the 90s), Patrick O'Hearn and Terry Bozzio, and Dale, who was married to Terry at the time (former Playmate. Terri Nunn from Berlin had also done some girly mags in the 70s...). It would be like Tower of Power or Weather Report in the late 70s deciding to put on skinny ties and have the hot girlfriend be the singer.

The Buggles were more a concept than a band, kind of like how Madhouse started out...but Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes were session musicians who decided to record some stuff, and were recruited to join Yes when some of the band members had left. It was a short lived lineup, but Trevor's bigger claim to fame was ZTT, which had Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Art of Noise, Seal, 808 State, Grace Jones, Tom Jones (he produced that "Kiss" remake), All Saints, etc. Geoff Downes went on to 80s "supergroup" Asia and a ton of session work, including for Kate Bush, Thompson Twins, etc.

There's a lot of cases where session musicians get together and call it a "band", but they never take it in front of an audience.

That's an insult to Carmen's album...

You must mean it's a classic MPLSound or 20ten track!

Except that The Buggles have performed live.

Armen was released on NPG.

And apparently Edel wasn't supposed to release it.

What? eek

Yup. T once told this on amp.

Here it is:

>>he's a kid who used to show up on David Letterman and shows like that.
>>He was like 8 and jammin' on a set. In 1995 Prince picked him up on
>>NPG records and as most stuff sent to Edel in 1995, his record was
>>pressed in VERY limited quantities WITHOUT NPG records knowledge..

>>Also, what I meant about the Edel thing above... Seems there was
>>Prince fan / friend of a Prince fan (winky winky) that was getting
>>DATS from NPG because Edel is the distributor over seas. Well, this
>>person would make up little collectables from the DATS that they
>>recieved.. These include Mayte's Brick House Promo CD5, Exodus Promo
>>Can, Get Wild (Money Maker Mix), and the Jacob Armen CD. NPG Records
>>had NO idea that these were released and didn't know ANYTHING about
>>the Jacob Armen Record. I called them to try and find out why we
>>didn't have them in the store and they had absolutely no idea that it
>>had been released. Pretty odd story I kow, but if you were lucky
>>enough to have a friend over there and get all of these.. Then you
>>have yourseldf some nice little collectables.. They ARE official, but
>>still sketchy as NPG had no idea they were released.

The album's a piece of crap, but I'm glad I own an original. Wish I'd had bought multiple copies at the time: an original once sold on eBay for $500.

More stories from the mid-1990s:

T:

I would like to add this, the Jacob Armen record was the other release
I was talking about when I said that I knew there was something else
but forgot.
See, I got a Jacob Armen record in the mail and immediiately called
out to the studio to ask why we weremn't selling them at the store.
The person in charge of the label said "Huh? What Jacob Armen disc?
Jacob's disc isn't out......" I just said, Oh, sorry and hung up. smile

Jacob Armen wasn't suppose to be out

T:

Sure, everything that came from NPG was at Edel... That's how we got
Madhouse 24, Maytes record with the different versions, Lovesign
Remixes, all that junk.

Seems those guys at Edel also had a DAT with Madhouse's "24" (This is a story by Richard Dower):

Jacob Armen was pressed up as a very limited number, silver CD...artwork and
all the rest, it was never sanctioned or authorised by Paisley Park, nor did
they even know about it.

Nor was any of the other Promo CD's that were ran off at the plant, there
was not just a fan, but a few folks at Edel who were doing all this stuff.

And it wasn't just for friends....it was so on the collectors market they
would command a huge price tag, you can be sure they knew they could cash in
off those items.

Madhouse 24 was never made into anything, never pressed up...what Edel had
was a DAT....they never made CDR, in terms of going to press and to
glassmaster.

Yes people made private CDR....but in terms of making a CDR for the factory
to go to glassmaster for pressing, no.

More from T about Jacob Armen's CD:

It was a VERY
limited and VERY quiet release.. I believe there wqere 1000 copies
made and we (NPG) didn't even have a clue it had been released...

Kares once posted this list of Edel releases:

I just got a catalog from Edel, and i found the following NPG releases
listed in it:

- Armen, Jacob Drum Fever 006146-2
- Carmen Electra
- Chavez, Ingrid
- Kamasutra NPG Orchestra
- Leeds, Eric 1
- Leeds, Eric 2
- Madhouse 8
- Madhouse 16
- Madhouse 24
- Mayte Child Of The Sun 006162-2/4
- Mayte House Of Brick 006225-5
- Mayte If I Love U 2Night 006163-5/9
- Mayte If I Love U 2Night - Remix 006192-5
- New Power Generation Count The Days 006133-0/-5/-9
- New Power Generation Exodus 006103-1/-2/-4
- New Power Generation Get Wild 006104-5/-0
- New Power Generation Get Wild - Remix 006122-5
- New Power Generation Get Wild - single cassette 006104-9
- New Power Generation Get Wild -The Remixes 006119-5/0
- New Power Generation The Good Life 006151-0/-5
- New Power Generation The Good Life 006183-5

T's answer:

>But this list indicates that the original deal Prince signed with Edel
>included the Eric Leeds, Madhouse, Kamasutra, etc.. albums too...
>Interesting, no?

Yup.. But Kamasutra was the 20 minute version... Madhouse was
supposed to come out.. As well as Exodus (ORIGINAL with It Takes 3)...
They were also SUPPOSEd to re issue Paisleys back caalog of Madhouse
and some others.. They DID in fact get around to reissueing the Mavis
Staples "The Voice" record as well as George Clintons "Smell My
Finger" and both discs included extra songs from their firts Paisley
Records...

More from T:

>I am interested in the House of Brick and the If Eye Love U 2night cd's...can
>anyone hook me up?

Good luck on those.. House Of Brick is kinda like a "In House" CD
made by Edel as they did with LOTS of stuff from that time period,
such as tthe Get Wild Money Maker
Mix, and that Exodus "can".....

The Mayet 'If I Love U 2Night" disc was an NPG release and was halted
due to no bar code and serial numbers... You'll be lucky to find one
of these for $150, which is what I used to sell them for when I forst
found them.....

sBacon posted this in Feb 2003:

Just got my latest issue of People magazine and there's an article called
"Prodigies Grow Up" on page 131. One of the featured prodigies is Jacob Armen,
a drummer who appeared on the Tonight Show in 1989. Anyway, he apparently
worked with Prince according to the article and his website bio (it's also
mentioned in the article). Maybe it was this guy on Shhh instead of Bland - ha
ha!

From the article:
At 10, he signed a seven-year, $190,000 contract with Prince... Musically,
Armen hit a wall, in part, he says, because Prince restricted his appearances.
(Prince declined to comment for this article).

From http://www.jacobarmen.com:
His most recent musical and business endevours are innovative. Jacob worked and
collaborated with Prince for 6 years, it was this time when Jacob cut his
highly sought after 1st album, "Drum Fever", which is now a collectable on
E-Bay for up to $180.00. Soon after leaving Prince, Jacob produced his second
album, "Breakthrough", under his own label, JAAB Records, currently released.
Jacob's motivation is centered in the music, his drumbeat speaks louder than
words, and his inspirations are limitless.

If I ever win the lotto, I'm gonna buy the amp archive from google and pay people to go through it all and copy the info from T et al onto a website. lol Man, there used to be a ton of info there, but most of T's post were "do not archive" so Google doesn't show them (though I bet they're in the DejaNews database Google bought) and it's only by chance you encounter such info if someone quoted it or T forgot to label it "do not archive".

Hell, I wish T and other informed people from back then would pop up again and spill the beans.

^ Thanks Bart for the info. I always thought the Exodus "Can" was a fake ala the wooden paisley box Diamonds And Pearls package. This clears that up.

I wonder why those Lovesign EP remixes sound so incredibly shitty when the rest of the Edel DAT stuff that's been released over the years sound good. I would love to have clear copies of those mixes.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
