did he ever do this live, beyond the "the ryde divine" special i've never come across a live

version of the song.

but that "ryde divine" live performance is kick ass. LOVE the guitar solo in that one guitar

It was done on the Act I tour and cut from the Act II tour, as were many of the songs off of prince . I love the Ryde Divine version that ends with the 3 Chains O' Gold guitar solo. I was there for that shoot too. cool

eek

you're so lucky. what a great time to be so close to such things. nod

This has got to be a joke! Aside from some interesting lyrics about "virgin...blood"... this song seems uninteresting to me and slowly chugs along. Could have been on Carmen's album! lol

On the same album I find the music in My Name is Prince or The Flow or Sexy MF or even that last half of the Continental to be much more "toe tappin".

It'd be interesting to see this play at a club to see what happens.

guaranteed success...

I wish to know if some veteran orgers could tell us if eye Wanna Melt With You was played at clubs during the 92-94 years...and the reaction at the dance floor...

Was one of my favorites when the album came out. But I was 15.

I now view it as the second worst track on prince, after "Arrogance"

Growing up in Ireland, we never had High School but I'm sure that if we had, all the kids would've gone crazy.

confused This thread made me get out the Symol album coz I didn't know the track. No thanks.

I'm not looking forward to reviewing that album. Now I know why I hid it in the cupboard.

it's an okay song, but it's probably the weakest track on that album.I don't think the lyrics are very good.

That's the best lyric! But the track is completely boring... no one would care about it, no one I know did in 1993. The song is not good to my ears... "I'm melting, melting, melting"

I appreciate eye Wanna Melt With U because in 1992/93 it was the closest thing of a proper dance/electronic jam at that point of his career; Housequake, DMSR, LeGrind and similar dance cuts are too rooted in funk/R&B/MPLS...

And considering the crappy dance songs of 1991 (Push, Jughead), 1993 (Pope), 1994 (Loose!) or 1996 (Sleep Around, etc.) eye Wanna Melt With U is pure gold in my ears...

Nothing wrong with a bit of earnest hyperbole, but the OP must be taking the piss.

Nothing particularly memorable, but it's kinda endured......can't be bothered w/Sexy MF or Get Off these days.

Prefer it over Earthquake every day of the week.

Cheesy dance music, ridiculous rapping, cringeworthy lyrics, all-around embarrassing...yet I revel in its godawfulness! I certainly wouldn't call it his best dance jam of all time, but it's inexplicably my favorite song on the symbol album.

I'd say Loose was much better to my ears for a non r&b dance track by Prince (or even Human Body). But, I've never felt house, techno, or most electronic club music, and never considered it to make me feel any dance-able vibe (aside from the ones that actually snuck in funk into the bass line or synth line.)

I still remember how "Southern Hospitality" by Ludacris crossed over to ravers and techno heads... because it used techno noises in a hard funk/R&B way.

Its a track I've always enjoyed, nothing wrong with it (a bit slow really to be classed as "Techno", but it is certainly techno-inspired) - however, I think Loose! is far more successful as a dance track, that song just flys!

What I don't understand are those who accuse Prince of "just trying to fit in" or that he's never successfully produced a "proper techno" track - you're missing the point. Prince has built an entire career on being able to take almost any style of music, even fusing apparently disparate genres of music, and making them in to something that was distinctly his own style. If you don't understand this, you don't understand his music. How many soul/funk/r'n'b artists have had a go at making a techno-esque track? Not many, that's for sure!

Knocking Prince for drawing on a certain musical style to inform his music is effectively dissing almost everything the man does in the studio.

As a dance music producer myself, I've played IWMWU, Loose!, Human Body etc to many a musician and producer and not heard any negativity to what he's done - surprise, sure, but not dismay!

...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Sorry to drag this one up again.

Just back from the Goldfrapp concert here in Paris.

Before the lovely Alison came on stage we were treated to a selection of songs, mainly from the 80s.

While there were a few people shakin' it to the likes of Love Action by the Human League, I'm sorry to say that I only saw one sad girl, with a tan handbag, move a hip when Erotic City came on (Goldfrapp is a big Prince fan).

Now, I imagine if Melt with you had been played there would have been purple steam rising off the dance foor....wink

eek Apparently you have never heard of Erotic City.

Not so easy to dance to.

I reckon that if you stuck on "Erotic...." and "Melt in any club, the latter would get more people on the floor.

Problem is, they're entirely different kinds of tracks. Anyone who digs raves and more euro-style clubs should be able to feel "Melt..". It's got a cool trance vibe to it. I like it more for the lyrical arrangement, but I can bob my head to it. Put on "Erotic City" in a club today with people under 30 there and you'll see how much of an 80s rhythm it really is. An all-timer, for sure, but it's dated. "Melt" is younger.

So out of all Princes (don't know how many in total) songs, over all these years

u think that this song is HIS BEST DANCE JAM !!! I mean everyone is entitled 2 their own opinion BUT REALLY!! confused

Have u actually put all of his dance songs together & played them one by one 2 come 2 this conclusion? Don't get me wrong i don't mind this song but i certainly wouldn't say it was his best DANCE JAM!!! wink

Prince once tried 2 change his name 2 a symbol so that ur'e mother couldn't find him in the phonebook!
