Exactly!! n the grand scheme of things, Keith's opinion on Prince does not matter to me. it does not diminish my enjoyment of Prince's music in the least.

I find all this defending of Prince funny though especially when I see so many Prince fans rip other artists to shreds.

Keith Richards had a similar rant about 20 years ago in Rolling Stone magazine. Back then he ragged on a bunch of artists including Prince, Michael Jackson, George Michael, rap music, etc... He said he loved AC/DC, Chuck Berry, reggae music, and INXS (among others).

The funny thing about this is Prince himself has ragged on great bands such as U2, R.E.M., Rick James, etc... So he's fair game.

It made sense. I am well aware of the difference in composing and playing, which is why I mentioned Keith as a guitarist and his musicianship. I did not mention his songwriting. It's kind of like Wendy and Lisa. A lot of people love them around here for their composition skills. However, as musicians I am not impressed by them. They are competent, with Lisa being more adroit than Wendy, IMHO. The difference between Keith and Prince, however, is that Prince is great at all of the aspects you mentioned. Therefore, Keith needs to put a cap on the haterade. He is not in the same league as Prince.

i the german magazin "Der Spiegel" was a story about his new book last week. and i must say - this must be one of the craziest dudes on this planet.

Love the Stones, but i think Keiths issue with Prince is Micks appreciation for him. Besides musicians are competitve people and Prince has had his share of trashtalk in the past. But the thing about Prince that is sooooooo Hip Hop (battle records, call outs) is his willingness to take it to the stage, he'll talk shit about keith with guitar in hand, telling Keith "you cant do this". Keith is the greatest support staff in rock history, Prince is the greatest front main/genuis so he shouldnt even respond. Mick is a genuis, without him Keith is irrelevant and Prince does Micks job better than Mick.

Yeah there is no way around the fact that Keith Richards is a great monster talent of rock music. Such good guitar licks, and has incredible stage presence too. Has so much personal style that it was all directly imitated to form the character of Jack Sparrow by Johnny Depp in the Pirates movies. If you thought that character was cool... you are thinking Keith Richards is cool.
