A lot of this concert is unwatchable... But it does have bitch/possessed, die/baby star, and purple rain

The production values on the concert are awful. It's sometimes shockingly bad considering how huge a show it was.

Additionally, there is just something really jarring about the drum machine on the PR tour - it overpowered almost all the other instruments.

Recently, I can't get enough of this show and the other Purple Rain shows I have. Something about the drum machine is so amazing to me. I know it overpowers at times...but damn, it's good.

I remember when this was broadcast on TV.

I had been listening to my older sisters Prince records and really liking them, then we both watched the Syracuse show on TV and it was this that sealed it for me, i have been a Prince fan ever since.

I was 15 when this was broadcast in March '85.

When it was released on video, it was originally on 2 videotapes, "Double Live."

Later, it was released as a single videotape, "Live."

Happy days, great gig, i still have the original single VHS copy, and now a bootleg DVD, not watched it in a long time, i might have to dig it out.

I dug this out for you to see, shame i haven't got a Video Player anymore....it's about time for a DVD dont you think... wink

I didn't care for the Syracuse show, I remember reading a review of that concert back in the day and the critic said that Prince, "talked his way out of this show", I have to agree. I have seen other PR concerts on video I have to say Syracuse is probably the weakiest one...and the double image of "When Doves Cry"....uggghhh! neutral Aaron6ix

That concert is easily the greatest thing I've seen in my life. I remember when it was broadcast on tv when I was 7. I thought he was just amazing, I couldn't believe what I was watching.

I have the VHS (purchased in 1989) but it's in poor quality. I just bought it again the other week, new, sealed for $110. Why won't he release it on dvd? sad

His dancing in it is just incredible. wow. GENIUS!!! That was his hey day.

I know people in America still hear what he's doing, but in Australia you don't hear a thing. It was The Revoltion, NPG and then it was like he vanished. I have to research to know what's happening which can be hard cause he removes everything!!

~ can you my darling, can you picture? ~

All I have to say is....AMAZING SHOW!! IF I had been there, I would have been in heaven. I loved that Prince was able to be a real showman, he was absolutely brillant!

i was at the concert!!! ... but my seats were not that good. it didn't sell out (and we knew it wouldn't ahead of time), so my friend and i just showed up and bought tickets in front of the venue from someone. i remembered sheila e's set the most after the actual concert. after i got the official videotape later, i picked up on a lot more details from the show than I did live ... i listened to the audio of the VHS about a million times especially because of the funky live arrangements - my favorite songs were irresistable/poss & i would die/baby i'm a... the sound was so much better on the videotape than at the actual concert because it was cleaner and i was not close to the front at the actual show. but the concert experience transformed me into a huge fan or at least moved that process way ahead!

Yeah this concert really does deserve a DVD release. I bought it on VHs a while ago. It's one tape. what's the 2 tape version? I would buy a DVD in a second.

I WISH THey had included Sheila's set though! there is no official documentation of Sheila Live in concert other than ROmance 1400 live which is also hard to get (I got mine in new york a long time ago)

I wish Sheila E.'s set would have been available too. I did recently discover a video for the Belle of St. Mark taken from a Purple Rain show.

Definitely a life-changing experience. I remember this being my first bootleg when I first started collecting. It made my enthusiam for Prince reach an all-time peak and also confirmed that Prince was legend whose story should be told over and over, no matter how incredulous or amusingly odd it is.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!
