When the hell do your peers ever say either of these things?? lol.

This is some seriously wishful thinking in this thread. There's not been a catch phrase Prince invented that caught on in contemporary vernacular. He HAS aped things (like "slammin'!" etc) and created words ("soulyacolia", "hundalasiliah!") and phrases ("may you live to see the dawn", "pussy control"), but he has never created a phrase people actually use in every day language. The phrase "party like it's 1999" only gets half credit because the saying "party like it's/a" existed well before this time. "The artist formerly known as" does not count as something Prince created because he did not create that phrase (even in reference to himself).

Phrases or terms that originated with Prince that have worked their way into the language; so much so that people don't even mention the Prince connection anymore.

For example,

1. "Party like it's (insert any year here) ."

I just saw some promo for some TV show where they used this; of course it's used all the time without ever referencing Prince.

2. "The Artist Formerly Known As" or even "The Artist Known As"

This is used all the time without ever mentioning Prince; usually in a derogatory manner about some celebrity.

3. "Glam Slam"

Just open a fashion magazine or go to a site about fashion and inevitably someting will be described as "Glam Slam." I don't think most people have any idea they're referencing a Prince song.

Wasn't it Prince who invented the wheel, leading to the introduction of the motorcycle in Purple Rain?

Up until that point, the human race had been travelling on winged horses, as first featured on his debut album

Okay here's some more:

"Got the look."

There's a show titled "She's Got the Look." Of course, Roxxette did a soundalike title after Prince's.

Ummm, NO.

Prince did not invent this phrase... It's been around for ages, saying someone is a "looker" or "She's got the look" and in fact there was even a movie made in 1981 called "Looker" with a theme song built around the phrase:

"She's a looker with a beautiful face.

She's got the look, yeah, she has it made..."

"Erotic City"

Used to describe many things of a sexual nature.

"Nasty Girl"

Ditto.

Where has "Erotic City" been used in common vernacular???

Prince, also, didn't invent the phrase 'nasty girl', he just used it in a song.

Yes I know all about Susan Dey in Looker. Prince "popularized" the phrase as it's commonly used today; ditto for Nasty Girl.

Put Erotic City into a Google search; you'll see plenty of non-Prince.

Also, nobody "invents" words; somewhere someone has used almost all combinations of words; it's about who brought it into the mainstream.

Okay. I'll bite. Let's see....

I see Glam Slam wikipedia which only refers to the song, I see the Access Hollywood and Yahoo references to a "glam slam". I see a website devoted to sports and fashion called "A Glam Slam" and then a myspace with with "Glam Slam" as the title, but it's definitely not referential to Prince.

Oh, and I'm 28 years old. So I've been growing up in the time that this phrase would be used. I've lived in Baltimore, DC, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and San Francisco.

I've never, not once, heard "glam slam" outside of the Prince community. If you can provide some kind of context and proof, please do. Bear in mind that you must adhere to your rules and it has to be a part of the vernacular, not a tongue in cheek reference to a celebrity that people would pick out (aka naming a sherbet Raspberry Sorbet - that is not vernacular, its marketing).

Close, but not quite correct. no no no!

Until they started shooting Purple Rain, all motorcycle wheels were rectangular in shape, usually square. square

As you can imagine, riding them was very uncomfortable. excited

After a few rehearsals of the opening scene, Prince suggested that they make the wheels of the motorcycle round, instead. idea

The scene was eventually shot in one take. The other motorcycle scenes went off without a hitch, though many have since lamented that the scenes with Apollonia riding on the back were a lot less jigglier than planned in the original screenplay. cry

Anyway, the whole round thing caught on after the movie came out. The rest is history. headbang

Not one of my claims are absurd. Pleny of massage parlors, sexual related things are called Erotic City. The other ones I've already belabored. I'm done with it. Truly, honestly believe whatever you want. I really don't care.
