COME: A celebration

Another great album from the 90s. If anyone saw the Act I, Act II tour, or any of the aftershows then they would have gotten an earful of this release. It seems like the promotion for this album was done before it ever saw an official release. When the official release did happen, many of these songs were a year and a half old. As we all know, Prince had already started working on the Gold Experience by late 93.
I prefer the much faster version of Come than what was finally released on this CD. Pheromone is my favorite track. Missing a climax you say...
"Her eyes are closed but there's no penetration
Can't get any closer to climax than that! [Edited 9/30/10 17:58pm] TRUE BLUE

I just listened to Orgasm for the first time. Too much for my young ears.

How old...I mean young are you? No matter your age, pursue your dreams so that you will LIVE.

hehehe...oh dear.
You know that the first thing Prince says on that album is
If U're 18 and over, come here tsk tsk, youngin'!
In fact I wasn't much older than you when this came out (either 14 or 15) and I actually couldn't bring myself to buy it, despite being hooked on D&P and by then.
I all but forgot about it until this year when I finally bought it - tbh after one full listen I am actually so glad I waited.
I guess you're just getting an education a little bit earlier than most!
(That said, I ended up with the Black Album instead, but at least you can misinterpret a lot of that until you're old enough to really understand it...Orgasm is a little more...um...blunt )

This album for me reaches the extremes of my Prince fandom. I has things I think are as great as he has ever done. "Solo" Letitgo" "pheromone" & his all time worst "orgasm" and the licking sounds added to the otherwise great tittle track. Although I always put this album near the top of Prince albums, I still shake my head at all the 90's style Prince atrocities it is saddled with. I prefer this album 100 times better than the "Gold Experience", where Prince reaches his zenith in his 90's style cartoon glittery schmaltz. To me, at least "Come" still had bits and pieces of Prince's originality and genius, almost everything that came after this was just recycled schmaltz looking for acceptance from.....anybody. Here at least he still sounded like he didn't care what you thought. [Edited 9/30/10 21:07pm]

It will eternally remain my answer to the "what is the most underrated Prince album" question. It's not perfect, but it may be the last Prince album that I can put on and just forget I'm listening to it. If that makes any sense.

I mean "Come" "Race" and "Letitgo" are cool, but really I thought the album was lazy and barefaced. Thrown together and bam..we have an album. Loose..mess doesnt flow with the album...Phermone..what was that song that just came on? Papa..I loved the firt part, however the song left me kind of speechless as in..'what just happened'? However I did appreciate his honesty in the tune I admit. Solo...still don't have an opinion on that one...sound like he wants to cry on that one but can't...Dark...doesnt flow with the album...even if it was nice....Orgasm...appreciated when I got older and hearing Vibrator (Vanity 6 unreleased) for the first time and understood....

Great thing about there being so many Prince albums is that there's something for everyone. I love nearly all of this album and like the other parts. I particularly enjoy it BECAUSE it's dark. Not sarcastically "uh-oh Prince is in a bad mood" dark (like Chaos & Disorder), but genuinely twisted and a little broken.

'Come' is one of my favorite albums of P's that just has some much on it that I didn't expect when I first heard it. It took me to another planet it felt like. 4 1/2 out of 5 star album. Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

An underrated album; even if there are no many classics or "whoa" moments here, nothing here is bad, and it's one of the few Prince albums which feels like a hip/hop-modern R&B-modern funk/rock album without being a sellout. This kind of sound was perfect for 1994, and the leftovers of this era are GREAT... Without the friggin' Prince 1958-1993 line, with a lighter front cover and a more enthusiastic promotional campaign, this album could have achieved platinum status by 1995...even with the whole "Call me the Artist Formerly Known as Prince-Fuck Warners" controversy...
Delete Loose!, Pheromone and Solo and add some leftovers instead and you'll have a lost classic:
Come Space What's My Name LoveSign Papa Race Dark Letitgo Strays of the World (hidden track: Orgasm)
Loose! was just a mad/corny dance track that belongs to the vault, really, Pheromone was Peach part II and Solo, well, a bizarre track that should have been a B-Side, due to its freak nature... The rest of the album is great, specially Come, Space, Dark (underrated reagge/soul track), Letitgo & Papa...

Come is excellent - from start to well not finish, cuz Orgasm is just too much.
I the rest of this fine album.
Lovesign should have been on it, right after Dark and before Solo.
Interactive and Acnowledge Me are fine tracks as well, would have been great as well on Come. Prince 4Ever.

Loose: mad dance track that doesn't flow with the rest of the album Pheromone: weak Peach sequel, average funk/rock...tired ass drum line...

There were some really cool remixes of the above back in the day. That's when getting a 12" or CD-Single meant something - new tracks, remixes, a new take on the song. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Come is a strong album. I listened to it alot when it came out and my view of it has only grown. It's a very dark little underground kinda album with some great tracks. The production is probably his best of the 90s - "space" in particular is just a beautiful piece of studio work.
My only problem is the title track - too long and the sex sounds are just silly, and are a definite mar on the album. I also feel like it should have been fleshed out a little bit with a couple additional tracks. Pope and Ripopgodazippa would have been perfect on this record.
"Pheromone" is a definite high point; love the adventurous spirit of this album. "Loose!" is killer. * * *

I only got this album last year. It's good to take out the cd again and add to what isn't on my ipod. I actually looked at the paperwork and I saw Chronic Freeze's name on there which now means something.
Come -new to my ipod. Maybe the intial length and the fact that Space blew me away, made me ignore this one. But it's a nice tune. Slow and funky. Lyrics are explicit so no need to read them. I'd rather listen.
Space needs few words. It was love at first sound. In my Prince top 5 songs.
Pheromone - new 1 4 my ipod too. The waves intro on some of these tracks r a great idea. Some interesting parts to this one and there's a kind of hypnotic beat. I'll need more listens 4 it to grow on me.
Loose - not my cup of tea. Interestingly, very electronic. It reminds me of the 1991 house/trance? Track "James Brown is dead," which I didn't like but found annoyingly intriguing. But Loose. No thanks.
Papa - I wonder if this one shouldn't have been called Dark. Heavy track which is why I probably didn't take it on board. However, for its message and the way its done, the music is fitting. I find it strange that it's on such a sexually thematic cd.
Race - I wish I liked this one but it's rappy. Feels too mechanical for me. Idea is good but I think big message songs like this have to carry simpler lyrics to be effective. Cinnamon girl in that sense was a great improvement, imo.
Dark - I listen to this quite often. It's a lovely, sultry tune, clear easy to follow lyrics and has enough salt and pepper to make it interesting throughout. Groovy track.
Solo - this could almost be a meditation song. Therefore, listened to only by deliberate choice. When it comes to alternative music , Prince has got the goods in house to space you out. I'd be interested to know the inspiration behind this one.
Letitgo- I used to listen to this but not anymore. It's a funny song. I don't want to like it because it's not an immediate like yet still I feel compelled by something in it. Probably because I like many elements of it but the chorus "letitgo" I find overpowering. Maybe if it was only the flute without the voices. Pity, because you hear "letitgo" often and the rest of the song has pretty undertones.
Orgasm - needs no comment

Come was the first full P album I got. Since then, I've been hooked on buying his albums because of how each record smoothly transitions into the other. I loved the waves on this album too, I've heard it's darker and more mysterious than TBA (but I haven't heard it so I can't quite say)
Favorites have to be Come, Pheromone, Loose!, and Race. And Space. And Papa. And Solo. Orgasm is a little much for me though, but I definitely cracked a smile. time flies.

Wonderful album... "Come".
After watching The Beautiful Experience, I was excited when I finally got this CD in the fall of 1994.
I believe "Dolphin" the music video was on MTV Europe at the time, and I called Warner Bros. in Copenhagen - and none of those guys knew about The Gold Experience, the "Dolphin" video, all they knew was the Black Album was about to be released too, in the fall of '94. They knew nothing about The Gold album.... strange...
Prince also played "Peach" (with "Chaos & Disorder" - instrumental") at the 1994 MTV European Music Award.
What a great time this was for me. I was really 100% excited...
I love "Come"...... only "Orgasm" is a little hard to hear loud. And "Lovesign" should have been on the album.
I rate "Come" one of the finest Prince albums of the 1990's....
9 or even 9.5 out of 10 from me. Prince 4Ever.

not exactly a carbon copy, but for me it was a "Peach sequel": similar drum line, repetitive rhythm, funk/rock sound etc. When I first listened to Pheromone I thought: "oh, ok, another funk/rock song in the vein of Peach, I'm gonna skip this"...I do admit, though, that Pheromone is darker and nastier than Peach, which was light and poppy.
I think that Peach is still the blueprint of rock songs like Pheromone, So Far So Pleased, half of Chaos & Disorder, etc...

on the old AMP or maybe the PPML there were some funny jokes about the album's name,
like "I can not wait to get my first taise of come" or "I can not wait to have come in my ear" "I love prince's come" stuff like that... "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"
