Indeed so.

He honestly needs to do more of it too, you can't go wrong with intertwining funk with gospel.

I can see him pulling out something likehttp://www.youtube.com/wa...mp;ob=av2e

If you don't like the answers, don't ask the question. Don't try to pigeon hole someone into the response(s) you want. That's called Totalitarianism.

Prince has said he did a gospel album. It's called Lovesexy.

Gospel is often defined as "the good news of Christ", and/or more specifically the first four books of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John).

You haven't been listening. Romans says, "For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

Prince said,

"Save me Jesus, I've been a fool
How could I forget that U are the rule
U are my God, I am Your child
From now on, 4 U I shall be wild
I shall be quick, I shall be strong
I'll tell Your story no matter how long"

"I know there is a heaven, I know there is a hell
Listen 2 me people, I got a story 2 tell
I know there was confusion, lightnin' all around me
That's when I called His name
Don't U know He found me?"

The song "God", to me, has always contained a very strong gospel vibe not just because of the subject but the whole mood of it. Haven't heard it in awhile but I think there's even a few gospel-ish claps toward the end of the songs. That said, you probably wouldn't catch the members of your favorite choir making those uh...Prince sounds at the beginning and end of the track!

Well, like someone said before -- purple Rain ( the way he sings it) is gospelStyle, aswell the ladder, free (listen to the end of this song), one of u. I would even put SST on the list--> great gospel Vocals or dark(combined with the music it sounds like a gospel/Blues song)

Prince singing is/was very influenced by gopsel singers.

The reversed end to 'Darling Niki' is sung in a gospel music style to me.

People say 'if you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say anything at all' but i say 'IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT ANYTHING TO SAY THEN DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!'

Tinker with the lyrics a bit and Act of God off of 20ten is purely a gospel song. The repeated chorus at the song's end as well as the music has a distinctly gospel quartet feel. He could have started preach/singing a la Lee Williams at this point. Prince's music has always had gospel influences and there are many songs in his catalog like this.

You agreed before hand to the course of your life so DEAL WITH IT!!!......

someone posted earlier about The Cross and implied it was on Lovesexy. obvious error. but to the thread question. the biggest travesty is to assume gospel music is a STYLE, when in fact it is CONTENT. (see ernest's response if u still don't get what that is). even within Christian circles, there is a distinction made between CCM (Contemporary Christian Music; which is primarily white and consists of artists like Jars of Clay, Mercy Me, Pillar, Steven Curtis Chapman, etc.) and gospel (which is primarily black and features artists like Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin and CeCe Winans). i've always hated this false dichotomy, made just for the ease of categorizing based on preferences or tastes despite the fact that both genres are Christians singing about Jesus, the cross, redemption, salvaation. i think the reason why ppl love Prince is because he embodies so many styles and genres without feeling as if he can only be one or the other. so here's my Prince gospel mix tape (this subject is recycled here a lot btw)

4 The Teas in Your Eyes (my favorite in this "lot)

Anna Stesia

God

The Cross

Still Would Stand All Time (a close 2nd)

Last December

Elephants & Flowers (the chorus says it all)

The Word

Love (arguable but the perhaps the most "biblical" description of love he's done IMO)

Get on The Boat

Let's Go Crazy (relunctanty, because its so overplayed, but listen, and Prince says so himself)

-Etc.

Patricia Heaton from The Middle thinks so. --->>>> http://www.youtube.com/wa...eature=sub

I was catching up on the Late Late Show (a favorite of mine) just now and was glad to hear talk of Prince. They start talking about him when Craig Ferguson [host] says Patricia's purple dress reminds him of Prince. It's just a short mention, under the first two minutes.

By the way, the rest of the interview past that mark is pointless. Patricia Heaton seems to talk mostly of her experience in a gospel group where she keeps referring to it as 'black gospel' and uses different white/black stereotypes.

A lot of his material is influenced by gospel but i don't really like the way he uses those gospel influences.

I prefer him messing with the blues

Yea something line Ben Harper did with the Blind Boys of Alabama would be cool. My boyfriend is a huge oldschool gospel fan. I hear Clara Ward, Mahalia Jackson, and the Happy Goodmans on a regular basis. Prince could pull it off.
