Just listening now. It's really making me laugh that after each song the phrases: "WOW", "I can't believe this is in the top 20" is spoken with such genuine surprise. The passion of these guys is amazing. Well done, it is an enjoyable listen and has inspired me to listen to many songs again. 'Anna Stesia' sounds like it's never sound before. It's always good to hear other people talk about songs with such enthusiasm because it can help you to hear it in a new way biggrin

[Edited 9/13/10 15:33pm]

Yeah, that's why we did the show like that (with MC, Playa and Captain not knowing the list before hitting record). We wanted that gut reaction to each of the songs. Although it's true there's a certain similarity between each of the songs (without giving anything away), I think we were pleasantly surprised that a good portion of non-single, non-hits and B-sides made the top 20. Nice voting people cool

Didnt vote, and i felt guilty as hell listening to the show but i loved it anyways. I was so proud of alot of the entries like "Mountains" and " She's Always in My Hair" because it confirmed my belief that we are a sophisticated fanbase musically. I was put off that Do Me Baby and When You were Mine did not rank higher. I think that DM/Controversy period should have garnered more love.

The list in itself is of no special interest. But that's normal. Especially if consider people are voting, turning visions into marmelades. But then, the show is still cool and the guys are interesting.

This set deserves to be compiled with art and the whole works. 20 tracks of absolute killer material - that's rare for any artist.

Props to the voters and Peach and Black.

I was surprised that one of your votes which i will honor to not mention wasn't in the top 20. In fact I was shocked to not hear it there.......That song is a classic Prince song to me......Especially when he has done it live. It baffles me that it wasn't voted in....

eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

Now lets' vote for the best ever Prince related podcast. At number one is Peach and Black Greatest 20 Prince songs ever. This was a brilliant idea and so much fun to listen too. Thanks for all the hard work compiling the data. I also was very surprised at the no 1, not to say it's not a great song.

This top 20 is already a playlist on my ipod and means much more than what Warner would come up with. This is for us by us.

Hey, Mike Dean, would be keen on getting you and your team's take on this list too. Be good if both podcasts could get together for a special on another key subject one day. It would be fun to hear the international mix and Captain and Ken going toe to toe.razz

Kudos to the guys that did this. The show was delightful and very funny!! Now I while I didn't agree with the list at all...I thought it was really fun and great to see what other Prince fans like! I was eccstatic to see "If I Was Your Girlfriend" and "The Question of You" so high on the list because I LOVE those songs!! And of course "Adore," "Kiss," "Purple Rain," "When Doves Cry," "Little Red Corvette," and "The Beautiful Ones" definately would have made my list!! Thanks for doing it!! biggrin

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Great show thumbs up! I had a lot of fun listening.

I like the way you set it up too without everyone knowing

what the results were and getting the surprised reactions.

I am very pleased to see IIWYG/SOTT two of my top favorate

Prince songs tied for 3/4!!! They came in right behind what's

prob his two most popular songs ever.

Joy In Repetition & SAIMH in the top 10 is awesome.

Good to see Adore & Controversy in the top 20 and

I like that Forever In My Life & Question Of U

made it. As well as the pleasant surprise of Mountains!

Thanks for all of your effort music

That would be really interesting

We are still deciding what to do with all the data, whether we use it for future episodes or not... but nothing's decided yet. Let us know what you'd like us to do with it cool. Top 10 of each decade seems to be a pretty popular one so far...

Excellent list and very fun to listen to. Nice work, you guys!

I'd love to see an expanded list, and since it's mentioned early on, I'd even love to see how the votes were split up by voters around the world (which I know is impossible to determine exactly, but even if it's just in general, it would be fun to look at).

Good job!

Also, do you think we could set a future date where it would be okay to discuss the list without obscuring the titles? I think once the podcast has been out for a couple weeks, it would be okay to talk specifics without spoiling it for anyone.

^Feel free to talk about the tracks. If you read through this thread, by the power of deduction you can probably work it out now anyway. We just didn't want someone posting it in list form on the first reply and hence spoiling it for anyone who enjoys the trivia/surprise factor.

WHEN DOVES CRY? Are you frigging kidding me people? It's a great song but his greatest ever?

Oh well majority rules.

This is so entertaining with the little snippets and trivia. I got the extra words in the title of 17 Days right away. Go me!

Not too shocked at When Doves Cry and PR bring 1 and 2. They are his most popular songs, altho I'd argue they aren't his GREATEST.

Yea, love their accents. You can tell the Captain is an english transplant. The others seem to be born Aussies. Surprised none of them have used the term mate yet...lol Or by cracky. lol

I was going to divulge the list anyway, since most people must have listened by now or know the list.

When Doves Cry is in my top ten but not number one. My number one is Beautiful Ones.

Saddened that there is no ninetees stuff there, which means plenty of fairweather fans voted.

No Dolphin, no I Hate U, no Holy River, no Joint 2 Joint, no Face Down, no Gold, no Strollin, no Money Don't Matter 2night, no God Created Woman, no Seven, nothing from the Truth.

I think Sometimes It Snows In April is a good song but a great song? It aint on any level like How Come U Don't Call Me or Another Lonely Christmas or Strange Relationship or Dance On.

No Condition Of The Heart! No When U Were Mine. Nothing from Dirty Mind. What happened to the purple hippies?

Raspberry Beret! Come on guys

Purple Rain is great but not as good as lots of cuts.

All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

When Doves Cry was the certain #1 as far as I was concerned. Perfect song. Little Red Corvette is its nearest rival for pop perfection IMO so was surprised to see it chart so low comparitively.

I'd avoided this thread until I could listen; and now, I've listened!

So happy to see Mountains and Forever In My Life in there... people talk about 'fairweather fans' voting... in light of those two songs placing, I must disagree!

The #1, I'm totally on board with. If aliens landed in my backyard and said, "hey, who's this 'Prince'? We only have time to listen to one song", that's the song I'd give 'em. smile

Where did I Wish U Heaven (my favourite song) come in?

Nice Podcast Lads! Great to see Forever in my life and Mountains in there. Where was I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man though:-D .....

Songs like Crystal Ball and All My Dreams maybe should have made the top 20 but fair dues;...

To all those bashing the top song though....It is quite simply the most fucked up avant garde- commercial (although who knew?) piece of brilliance he's ever put on wax.

antpooh

My two pennies.

Not really shocked by the lack of showing for the ‘90s songs. By in large, those 80’s song are way better and more fondly remembered then the 90’s songs. So understand the lack of support for Money Don’t Matter Tonight, Seven, Sexy MF, TMBGITW, Eye Hate U, One Kiss at a Time, Greatest Romance, Marrying Kind, If I Was the Man in Your Life, and Reflection.

Had a question, was the criteria based on studio tracks only? As I’m REALLY SHOCKED Nothing Compares 2 U wasn’t n this list if the Hits/B-Sides version counted.

Shocked made the list:

Mountains – love the extend dance version, but wouldn’t make my top 20 and didn’t see it making the list.

The Question of U - love the live versions, but the album cut is pretty average and not THAT memorable of a song.

Controversy – never a big fan of this and thought it would get lost behind other great songs from this era.

Anna Stesia – GREAT song, just didn’t think there would be enough votes to make the list.

Sometime It Snows in April – an amazing, minimalist song, didn’t know there was that much love for it.

Sign of the Times – see controversy. Thought it would get lost behind other great songs on THIS album.

Disappointed at it’s position:

Adore – thought this would be Top 5 for sure.

Joy in Repetition – knew the Prince fans love for this, thought this would be an easy Top 5 position.

Shocked didn’t make the List:

When You Were Mine – isn’t this one of the all-time Prince fan favorite.

Let’s Work – been playing it in concerts lately more and more and thought it would might make it here.

Anotherloverholenyohead – love this song and thought there would be more support for it.

Strange Relationship – like WYWM, one of those classic Prince songs that I thought it would make top 20.

U Got the Look – once Controversy made it, thought this would be on there as well.

It’s Gonna be a Beautiful Night – love this song, hoped others would too.

Scandalous – nuff said.

Absolutely Disappointed Didn’t make the List:

I Wanna be Your Lover – it’s a crying shame this isn’t on it, but Controversy is?

Head – are you kidding me this didn’t make it?

Do Me, Baby – one of Prince’s all-time classic ballads, been sampled many times.

Housequake – thought was a Prince fan favorite as well.

When 2 R in Love – felt this was a better underrated , underappreciated song than Sometimes it Snows in April or Mountains.
