eek shocked disbelief The very idea that Prince will ever become a 2nd class citizen and basically unimportant is gag worthy!! no no no! Prince IS music!!! In music, he is god..the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega! razz Other artist? hrmph

i agree with ernest here, sometimes looking at what the rest of the music scene has to offer is a good solution to any boredom someone might feel toward prince's work right now.

just as music was around before prince and will be long after prince, so was the universe, and whilst it might be understandable for prince to be held in high regard as a musician, i dont agree that he and he alone is 'the alpha and omega' of musical creation.

that description might apply to a much higher power than prince, and to align prince with being God in this context, is dangerous territory, imo.

Ummm notice I said in music! And whether you like it or not, I stand by it, Prince IS music and there will never be another like him. GOD only gives those gifts to certain people..that's what makes them so special. IF Prince wasn't in a class of his own, he wouldn't be so special. He'd be like the other losers in the music industry!! I'm not aligning Prince with GOD, no one gets that kind of honor, I simply used 2 words to describe his impact on music. Music was around, but good music that's on Prince's level wasn't around. And I mean from 1 artist. Plenty of artists have 1 or 2 good songs, that isn't crap!! Prince has 30+ ablums of genius material. No other artist like that, so yeah, Prince is the alpha and omega of music!!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Unfortunatley I am missing the online releases only, but he is still churning out an album a year and I still get excited when a new one comes out. There is bound to be a cut or two that I love and appreciate.

Being a prince fan can be boring because his studio work is constantly disappointing (and i agree that the quality control that warner imposed to him made him a better artist) but it is fascinating to be a prince fan because his material (very extensive material) is always evolving when he's on stage

I cannot stand when people cry about missing the "old" Prince? Who is the "old" Prince? The one from For You? He changes all the time. Fundamentally, For You differs from Dirty Mind differs from Controversy differs from Purple Rain differs from ATWIAD differs from SOTT differs from Graffiti Bridge differs from Diamonds and Pearls differs from Come differs from The Gold Experience differs from Emancipation differs from Rave Un2 differs from The Rainbow Children on and on and on. Seriously, those who whine about the old Prince aren't Prince fans. Prince is evolving. You should know that by now. Don't cry about how he's not so dirty and he doesn't throw parties and wah wah wah his music isn't the same. Nostalgia taking over your brain? Just go listen to what you want to hear and leave the rest of us out of it. Thanks.

time flies.

Prince is still writing good songs, only trouble is, it's all gotten a bit predictable these days. He's stopped experimenting with his music. It's not like I'm expecting him to still be creating otherwordly epic masterpieces like Crystal Ball or All My Dreams, but just *something* that I haven't heard from him a million times before would be nice.

I don't think I've been surprised by a Prince album since The Rainbow Children. And say what you will about Emancipation, but at least he was still trying out new things. He dabbled in techno (The Human Body, New World), he did his first ever recorded cover versions, even songs like In This Bed Eye Scream with all that weird guitar feedback at the end.... it was different, it sounded edgy, nobody else was doing that at the time.

These days his albums have become very formulaic. I listen to 20ten or 3121 and it's like "80's throwback funk song - check (Lolita, Laveaux, Chelsea), drum machine loop over sentimal ballad - check (Sea of Everything, Future Baby Mama, Walk In Sand), half-assed up-tempo song which is trying to sound contemporary - check (Chocolate Box, Laydown, Black Sweat)."

Suddenly Muse 2 The Pharaoh doesn't seem so unappealing anymore.

If you really believe that when you listen to 3121, Musicology and 20Ten then please point out to me where this supposed "evolution" is that you are referring to?

To me it just sounds like more of the same from a man who hasn't had a fresh idea for at least five or six albums now.

I just downloaded the musicology staples centre dvd, the leno files, and I still have many many boots to listen to. There were some great concerts during summer and there are rumours he will be back in october-november.
Antony Malzone was at paisley park to make new artwork for Prince and prince himself was also spotted in the Park last week. Signs of a new album, while 20ten has just been released for 2 months!

So no, I'm not bored either smile

Yah watch the musicology gig and take a look at Prince taking the piss out of the large lady during Kiss "ain't no particular size..." ...what a charming fella

I've noticed at concerts he's very rude to people. He should take a good look in the mirror.

I can assure you in the late 80's people probably said the same thing:

"Oh, I'm sooo bored with Prince, this Batman album is awful, I want the old Prince back!"

I think everyone always wants the old "someone" back.

That's an opinion...not a fact.

No doubt he's peaked...but now, he's apart of the "living legend" crowd.

HAHA! This post made me giggle (the post by "dandeeland")! Music today never has and never will catch up or pass Prince. Music today is emotionless and crap.. and they are all puppets in a field that they don't really know alot about aside from the pretty life.

Being a Prince fan isn't boring. Its exciting that he still churns out great music... and plays his own instruments AND sings live. Like Jay-Z put greatly "People want my old shit - buy my old album!". cool

I have felt this entire 2010 endeavour has been boring. The build up was fun, but the pay back has seemed less than thrilling. If this years music is over, then it was like a roman candle that duds at the end of the fuse. I was not a big fan of the Lotus experiment, but I have to admit the anticipation for the web site was fun. I think Prince simply needs to think about marketing himself a little better, because marketing generates interest and excitement. I once again fall back on 3121. That was a great model.

So boring is in the eye of the beholder, and I have found 2010 to be boring so far.

We are all so full of doody here

It may sound odd and I'll come across as a 'bad' or 'not real' Prince fan but I really started to take more notice of Prince when 3121 came out. I got that album and was like.. this guy is a genius. It opened my eyes to the rest of his discography.

The gentle vocals and conviction on Te Amo Corazon with it's incredible musical composition and melodies. 3121 is a beast of a track ripping itself open with it's attitude and dirt funk. My friends loved Black Sweat, distorted drum patterns and metaphor lyrics etc..

Point is he still makes great music, and that's enough.

20Ten doesn't sound like Musicology...20Ten is a funkier version of Lotusflow3r

3121 is my favourite Prince album, followed closely my Musicology! 2006 was the year that I became a Prince fan! I heard Black Sweat and the rest is history! biggrin

Could you sum up which artists exactly fall under that list ? ... like artists who have been an influence for him ? Have you watched Prince introducing George Clinton onstage during a Hall Of Fame event, and where he said "George, i need you" which showed Prince's admiration for George's accomplishments ? Or him working with other artists such as Chaka Khan, Lenny Kravitz, etc ... are all those artists losers iyo ? From that perspective i'm basically understanding that every artist who ever recorded and performed with him (bandmembers and guests) is a loser and that the perfect picture from now on should be merely him performing & touring all by himself without any other musicians or background-singers ?

...many may disagree, but i reallllly (((LOVE))) "N.E.W.S"!!!...its just sooo FREE creatively, FUNKY! SOULFUL, uncomplicated, SEXY...i play it allll the time and then in comparison: Lotusflow3r i think it might be the worst, i could only find about 5 songs worth listening to, everything else seems as if he thought of the album in his "kitchen" (in that album i loved: "immersion/better with time!") his quality is certainly is changing...i dont know...i just know, he needs to ignore the concept of QUANTITY as being the most important...

Guys...

I tell you the truth. Maybe I am young (23 years old) and believe me, I am addicted to Prince since I was 5 years old.......

I am never bored about him...

I still have something new (or old) to discover about him, about his music, about how the fuck sexual is him and about his talent...

All the time I discover something new about him not just the new released album...

He is a genius and always will be...

There is always something new to discover about this (for me) the most talented musician in the world. It is just how you inform yourself and search for something about him... Of course he changed with age... But I will never forget... He is just incredibly talented person. You love him or you hate him.

(Sorry if my english is not perfect)

I'd count myself as a relatively 'new fan'. Not in terms of 'I just found out who Prince was shocked' but more 'I'm discovering all the albums I possibly can from the beginning of his career to now'. (Yes, in chronolgical order lol)

There's SO MUCH!!!! Music, videos, films and even trying to understand him as an artist. How his personality IS the music. He/It is nothing less than fascinating.

Maybe it's because I'm only trying to discover 'all of it' now, but I just don't see how it could get 'boring'. There's far too much to be bored!
