escandaloso

For me, sometimes the thrill is gone. Back in the day I could always find the new releases in Mexico where I live. Hell, I was always bothering the wrecka store days before they received the goods. I would rush home, hole up in my room and let the Man´s music do the work. Maybe it was because I was a teenager but I definitely see less cutting edge and freshness from Prince. One suggestion, I would love him to guest on a Santana production or viceversa ´cause their collaboration at the Shoreline back in the 90´s was mindblowing.

(First post, I'm new - bare with me razz)

I'd count myself as a relatively 'new fan'. Not in terms of 'I just found out who Prince was shocked' but more 'I'm discovering all the albums I possibly can from the beginning of his career to now'. (Yes, in chronolgical order lol)

There's SO MUCH!!!! Music, videos, films and even trying to understand him as an artist. How his personality IS the music. He/It is nothing less than fascinating.

Maybe it's because I'm only trying to discover 'all of it' now, but I just don't see how it could get 'boring'. There's far too much to be bored!

My sentiments exactly ... He needs to get his 5 foot self back in the states and do some Leno, Ellen and other shows to get things warmed up and do a few Paisley Park shows. I need my purple funk fix ... LoL

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I just downloaded the musicology staples centre dvd, the leno files, and I still have many many boots to listen to. There were some great concerts during summer and there are rumours he will be back in october-november.
Antony Malzone was at paisley park to make new artwork for Prince and prince himself was also spotted in the Park last week. Signs of a new album, while 20ten has just been released for 2 months!

So no, I'm not bored either smile

Yah watch the musicology gig and take a look at Prince taking the piss out of the large lady during Kiss "ain't no particular size..." ...what a charming fella

One day somebody will kick the fuck out of him for pulling shit like that. I hope we get a bootleg to laugh at.

Sometimes I think he was better off with Warner Brothers who probably influenced his lbum choices and hence better albums!!!

WB had no say so over what he released. He had creative control. What they did control was the frequency of the releases.

For the most part, that is true but WB did have some say. For example, they refused to release Crystal Ball, and the 3 disk set was whittled down to SOTT. WB also could get behind a release, promote it and recommend singles to be issued.

I think the reason why Prince's music from that period was so much 'better', is because he was young and hadn't completely surrounded himself with people who would tell him no. Once the people who would be honest with him left, he was surrounded by people who's opinions I don't think he valued.

The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

I agree it is very boring being a Prince fan now.

Where are the singles, maxi singles, music videos, old re-masters, dvd's, tour dvd's, concert downloads????

We simply don't get enough product from every release, these days IMO.

My reasons, and probably many other peoples

1. He keeps releasing albums that are only released in certain parts of the world. Why I don't know as they usually flop anyway.

2. His legacy of internet scams, dodgy websites (Sometimes I wonder if hes a Nigerian scammer called Kingsley Sunday Ofusu?)

3. His Jehovahs Witness crap (And the fact he dosen't curse, sing about fucking and doing all the stuff he used too

4. Hes not cool anymore

5. All we do is recount his past glories which are drifting further back into the past.

So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Being a Prince fan during the 04-09 era was cool; it has been a better era than the 98-03 era, that's for sure.. barf = one new masterpiece (3121), one fine album (Musicology), comeback tours, Superbowl performance, Ultimate Prince, TV appearances, 21 Nights, and other lesser albums that featured at least two or three great songs (Chelsea, Dreamer, Feel Better, Wall of Berlin, Dance 4 me, etc.)

The crap began with the new decade and 20Ten, when Prince finally became a "yesterday's news" man, c'mon, he cannot even release his new album in the US...and he doesn't even care neutral

2010 will be probably his worst year since 1998, 1999 or even 2003...

[Edited 9/3/10 12:10pm]

I think post and including TRC he has just got better with who is now. If you want to state opinion as fact 20Ten shits on 3121

Ditto. I love being a fan in 2010. I wish he was on tour right now, but that can't be too far off.

Yup, I'm bored not because Prince is boring, he's not at all, but because I can't get enough of Prince and he's nowhere in sight. I wish he'd go on tour in the US, release his album here and promote it! I miss watching him per4m live!

I second that emotion!! I am NEVER bored by Prince or his music, I'm just bored that I can't see him perform and really miss him! sad I know he is getting older, but I still haven't had enough of him! So I'm resolved to watching and listening to older stuff, which is good, but I'd like some new memories. And Prince doesn't even want the old stuff out there, so it feels "weird" endulging in the old stuff. But how else am I to get my Prince fix?

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

I sort of think the key to not being bored with anyone else is having a semi-exciting life of your own. shrug

Besides a few exceptions his music has been boring for decades now IMO. Otherwise I always feel quite entertained, be it his underwhelming online ventures or changing distribution methods.

i agree with ernest here, sometimes looking at what the rest of the music scene has to offer is a good solution to any boredom someone might feel toward prince's work right now.

just as music was around before prince and will be long after prince, so was the universe, and whilst it might be understandable for prince to be held in high regard as a musician, i dont agree that he and he alone is 'the alpha and omega' of musical creation.

that description might apply to a much higher power than prince, and to align prince with being God in this context, is dangerous territory, imo.

this too shall pass

The man is still releasing albums in one form or another almost every year, giving great performances and making the occasional appearance in the media and doing a few interviews so its not like he fell off the earth like some other artists his age or even younger.

Besides, there's always his huge catalogue of work from the past 30 years. So i can still get my Prince fix and keep myself entertained.
