no, but here it is translated directly from aramaic:

butterfly

O cosmic birther of all radiance and vibration, soften the ground of our being and carve out a space within us where your Presence can abide

fill us with creativity so that we may be empowered

let each of our actions bear fruit in accordance with our desire

endow us with the wisdom to produce and share what each being needs to grow and flourish

untie the tangled threads of destiny that bind us as we release others from the entanglement of past mistakes

do not let us be seduced by that which would divert us from our true purpose, but illuminate the opportunities of the present moment

for you are the ground and the fruitful vision, the birth, power and fulfillment, as all is gathered and made whole once again

That passage is mighty "purple" alright, but it sure as hell ain't the Lord's prayer:

http://christiangays.com/articles/lords_prayer.shtml

it all means the same:

The Prayer to Our Father in the Original Aramaic:

Abwûn O Cosmic Birther, from whom the breath of life comes,

d'bwaschmâja who fills all realms of sound, light and vibration.

Nethkâdasch schmach May Your light be experienced in my utmost holiest.

Têtê malkuthach. Your Heavenly Domain approaches.

Nehwê tzevjânach aikâna d'bwaschmâja af b'arha. Let Your will come true in the universe (all that vibrates) just as on earth (that is material and dense).

Hawvlân lachma d'sûnkanân jaomâna. Give us wisdom (understanding, assistance) for our daily need,

Waschboklân chaubên wachtahên aikâna daf chnân schwoken l'chaijabên. detach the fetters of faults that bind us, (karma) like we let go the guilt of others.

Wela tachlân l'nesjuna Let us not be lost in superficial things (materialism, common temptations),

ela patzân min bischa. but let us be freed from that what keeps us off from our true purpose.

Metol dilachie malkutha wahaila wateschbuchta l'ahlâm almîn. From You comes the all-working will, the lively strength to act, the song that beautifies all and renews itself from age to age.

Amên. Sealed in trust, faith and truth. (I confirm with my entire being)

The Lord's Prayer was well know by people "before" Prince came on the scene.

Oh man...

Anyway, I learned it in church (before my family realized that religion is bollocks) and I think we used to say it in school too. That and O Canada and I think we even sang God Save the Queen.

Hell no...I'm not even religious but the Lords Prayer is a school thing...know it for as long as I can remember

Um... They teach you the Lord's Prayer in schools in the UK? Wow.

Yes. I'm an atheist, but as a kid we had to say the Lord's Prayer EVERY MOTHERFUCKING DAY.

Worst part? It wasn't even a religious school. And there was pretty much an equal mix of white kids, black kids, Hindus, Muslims, etc.

That shit would not fly today.

Same at my high school. Everyone had to say it every day. But I told them I wasn't saying it, I was an atheist and they could kiss my ass. I clocked up more detentions than anyone else in the history of the school. Not just for that, but that certainly added to the list, lol.

Y'all seem to keep religion and education separate moreso in the US. Another reason to add to my long-ass laundry list of why I'm happy to be moving to the US next year. lol

I had no idea what the Lord's Prayer was until Controversy, lol.

In addition, I didn't know what the Act of Contrition was until Madonna.

[Edited 8/14/10 21:41pm]

This. I was 8 when Controversy Came out, and 16 when Act of Contrition came out. I'm not from a particularly religious family, so I wasn't familiar with either of those things before I heard those songs.

Now, when I hear the Lord's prayer, I always hear a synth slam before the words "Daily Bread".

Keep your headphones on.

I was raised Catholic as well, but I recognized the end part. We sometimes went to Saturday services, (when the congregation tended to be a bit more liberal), and we'd sing The Lord's Prayer with those lines.

Did Prince learn it from Al Green?

No, Prince did not teach me the Lord's prayer. I was a Catholic school girl. Imagine a 12-year-old Catholic school girl HOT for Prince. Not sure what the nuns thought about that! LOL! pray

I went to a private Catholic School and we had to recite that prayer every morning before class. So I knew it well before Prince included it in his mega hit song "Controversy". it made me like the song even more. The long version. The short version that was released as a single didn't do the song justice...

I was having a conversation with a dear friend who is also a long time Prince fan. She told me the story of a time she went to a Catholic Mass as a pre-teen, unaware of the rituals. She said, "I didn't know anything they were saying. Then, everybody started saying the chant from Controversy," (which was how she recognized it). She's sure she's not alone.

Did anyone else learn The Lord's Prayer listening to Prince? pray

I didn't even know what I was saying for a loooonnnngggg time. I wasn't raised Christian so I had no idea. I always thought it was 'very' cool that he added that in the song.

No, however I don't think anyone learnt it from Cliff Richard's Millenium Prayer either? LOL

Maybe Prince could cover My Sweet Lord and multi-layer the Hare Krishne chant?

This is what it's like in the dream factory...
