Prince and Kevin Smith on Leno same night?

Thanks to the renewed ease of viewing videos, I just re-watched the performance of Everlasting Now on Leno. Apart from being blown away by the band (Sheila, Eric, Maceo, Greg, John B, Renato), I noticed that at the end Jay thanked his guests, including Kevin Smith and plugged the DVD "An Evening with Kevin Smith." holding up a copy!!! How ironic!

The other guests (John C Reilly and someone else) joined Prince on stage, but I didn't see Kevin there. Would've loved to see there interaction!

I assume this has been pointed out before. Does anyone remember the whole show? Were their any references to their "collaboration"?

Watched the show, but I didn't remember Smith being on the same episode. Didn't he do semi-regular bits for Leno around that time, via satellite or pre-taped? So he may not have been there. But if he was, I'm sure the sniveling little hack didn't even bother to ask about it.

I find Prince being on there May 3, 2001. Heidi Klum was on the show. not Kevin Smith.

Prince wasn't on again until February 26, 2004, which was well after The Rainbow Children era, and that was probably the "Musicology" performance. (Checking now, and it was because Mel Gibson was on that Feb show).

There are no dates with Kevin Smith that coorespond w/ Prince's appearance(s) on Leno's show.

Kevin could have done a pre-taped corny skit, or something like that, but evidence shows he was not physically in the studio.

PS A quick check to IMDB will answer your questions.

Actually, Prince performed "The Everlasting Now" on Leno Friday, December 13, 2002.

It's definitely December 13. In Leno's introduction, he says, "He'll be performing this Sunday, December 15th, at the Aladdin in Las Vegas."

I was at that taping. I seem to remember that Jennifer Garner was the guest, but I may have my Tonight show visits confused. It was a great show. Prince rocked the house. When I watched it at home, the energy wasn't the same, but I expected that.

I wasn't a fan of Rainbow Children but that song (Everlasting Now) was amazing live.

Duff information on the internet, who'd a thought it? lol

I don't suppose that anyone at the internet movie database will be in too much of a hurry to add information about a singer appearing on a tv show.

RIP sad

thanks for the info, but still no enlightenment as to why the plug and if there was a reference to the connection? (P whisks around when Jay mentions Kev, but that could be unrelated).

And, Ernie, thanks for the attempt to get it straight but hopefully you learnt to be a little less supercilious...?

From Kevin Smith's Wikipedia page:

After an August 2001 appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Smith returned to the show for monthly segments as a correspondent. The "Roadside Attractions" segments featured Smith traveling to random locations around the country and showcased places like Howe Caverns in upstate New York and the Fish Market in Seattle. While five of these segments were included on the Jersey Girl DVD, at least twelve were aired on the actual show. Smith regularly appeared on the program to introduce the pre-taped bits.

So I would guess he just had a taped bit on the show that night.

Perhaps you can learn to be a bit more respectful and a bit less prickish. It's all just conversation, you don't have to insert your dick into it.

As was said before Kevin Smith was doing Roadside Attraction skits these can be seen on the Jersey Girls bonus features IIRC there was one that was funny.

The rest were shit.

Back In October 2009, I talked to Kevin Smith at a Q & A and I asked him if he ran into Prince at the above mentioned performance and if Prince knew about the "Evening with 1" dvd. Kevin told me that he did not run into Prince, and at the time Prince had no clue about the comments made in the "The Evening With" dvd. Kev said he was kinda relieved, because he did think about a "What if I ran into Prince" scenerio. Kev is totally cool and actually didn't say anything negative about Prince. To my surprise, he told the audience to sush the boo's for Prince and kinda defended in front of the crowd.

Peace

I know I'm right in saying you're totally off base. I don't write IMDB, I don't own it, nor have made any contribution to it. I got my information from there. My very statement of "IMDB is in desperate need of updating" is not only true, but an admission that the information I received from there, opposed to the more correct information that theblueangel provided, was incorrect.

So, you're wrong in your ASSumption about me. I guess your sand kickin' attempts have fallen to the depths of FAIL once again.

PS I'm also right when I say it's "you're", not "your". I don't own "not", so "your", being possessive, is invalid and incorrect. However, most times I do know. Why? Because I at least attempt to do some homework on it. I understand you're blind to my constant statements of ", but I could be wrong on that", or "I stand corrected", but they are there, so make the most of ALL of it, or not at all, mmkay son?
