No I don't. I wasn't even old enough to appreciate prince at the height of his 80s fame. I'm smart enough to realise that decade was the best in terms of quality and consistency of releases.

I enjoy all eras of princes music. Good music is timeless... The decade it was made means nothing to me. The examples I gave were merely demonstrations of great, innovative songs. I dint choose them because of a time period.

Folks are defensive on here. I wish I loved the music.. But sadly I don't. If you do then that's great. 'everybody loves me'? I'm gonna go pop 'thectruth' on.

Thumbs down. A couple of 'good' tracks the rest is embarrassing and i cringed in places.

As a side note.. How many of these songs start with a straight kick drum or snare intro? I count 7. SEVEN!

Where is the creative openings? the leslie organ of lets go crazy, "dont worry, i wont hurt you", the swirling psychodelica of pop lifes intro... the fierce guitar opening of when doves cry?

this is not a yearning for yesteryear, just a call for a wonderfully gifted muscian to bukkake my eardrums with his musical jizz once more. Right now, its more scat.

Ive got nothing but love for the little man but this record isnt for me, Anything since 2004 may aswell have been the from same album.

oh please....you just want the 80's back....ain't gonna happen.

I don't hear that. Particularly the controversy element, lezama.

But that's the beauty of both music and discussion. Thanks for not resorting to insults because an opinion differs from you own.

See what Lezama did, folks? S/he challenged a difference of opinion with his/her own.

LF doesn't sound like any other album he put out in this era. MPLSound & Controversy are the closest this album has to a sister.

Well i love that it isnt that SLICK shit he did with MPLsound which to me was his most overrated record in history on this ORG. And i heard comparisons with "Future SOul SOng" to Future Baby Mama, totally disagree, FBM was one of his most lame songs ever, boring, wack beat, bullshit theme, but Future Soul SOng is what is missing in RB now, fucking SOUL. This record is very un-plastic like in its sound, despite it being probably all played by him and machines, Prince really can do his best on his own.

I must say that I'm highly pleased with 20Ten. Prince has regained his form with 3121, LF/MPLSound and 20Ten. Harkens back to the glory days with a little bit of a modern feel. Keep them coming like this and we're going to have another Prince "golden age".

AGREED!

'Future Soul Song' is nothing like 'Future Baby Mama.' No comparison.

And I've read people saying 'Walk in the Sand' sounds like 'All the Midnights in the World'! WTF!!!eek

I prefer MPLSound.

There's nothing on 20Ten as fun as No More Candy, nothing as catchy as Dance 4 Me and nothing as cool as Ol Skool Company.

That's not to say I don't like it. There are a few "vintage" sounding Prince jams on here, Future Soul Song and Compassion bring me right back to the early 90s, and Beginning Endlessly is his best pop song in quite a few years.

It's better than Musicology and 3121, but not as good as LF, MPLSound or Planet Earth.

hmm how can I put this..

PRINCE IS BACK? lol

I mean.. wow! I didn't expect this album to be this good..

I really really REALLY like it.. when I first heard that track

"hot summer" I was like "oh not this shit again.." but I listen

to the album, look at the tracks and the song wasn't even

on there.. he got his groove back.. and I mean that one

song called "sticky like glue".. not even in my wildest dreams

I could imagine him puttin out a track with that title smile

Best album since the mid-90's I'd say..

Long time enough I was in love with the "old" prince..

time to love the new one.. now I can razz YES WE CAN lol

May you rest in peace, my beautiful queen, Teena Marie rose

What I like about it is that it looks like he actually reached back and captured sound/vibes of his early times....
The lo-fi and emptiness of some songs are refreshing..early 80's feel...Compassion is easily "Let's Pretend Were Married"..which can take u back to "1999"...the songs seem to represent various times in his career, making a enjoyable (albeit short) ride.....

The demo feel to it reminds me of if "The Undertaker" would've ever been allowed to be released with the guitar magazine...how would it had been received... With that said, off to the "Hate 20Ten" thread...lol

Ok. After only 1 listen and a few drinks last night....lol, I think this is a great album. Of course I need to listen a few more times to fully realize things but my first impression was a good one. I liked how some songs appear to be really simple but under the surface there are multilayers of things happening. Compassion is a good example of this. A lot of nice grooves that don't fell forced as well. A lot of the songs feels very natural to me.I can't wait to listen again a few times and get a better understanding. Good stuff! cool

Right. He's reaching back to his mid-70s Stevie Wonder roots. He's one of the few artists, like Stevie, who can do something like this all by himself. All he added was a few female backup singers.

Perhaps the downward turn in the recording industry prompted him to go back to a more cost effective recording project. With Prince, stripping it down to just him (on bass, guitar, keys and drum machine programming and, of course, multiple vocal tracks) shows him at his best, studio-wise... IMHO.

love this album, because it's simple, he hasnt tried to show-off, love the sounds, the arrangements, the grooves, the funk, the sparseness.
