I did another listen through of the album and sorry, this track has got to go. I mean, it should never hit the radio unless it is radio Disney.

Funny thing is that I can hear the beginnings of some funky lines every so often in this track (the kiddie stuff dies away at one point and you hear some bass I think) but this is just not working for me.

I know there are some that like it....so I guess Prince did his job in giving something to everyone.

Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Er.. I don't know what to say about this one. It's like the remedial cousin of No More Candy 4 U. On prozac.

I should hate it, but for some reason, it just makes me laugh.

I had felt that way too but I realized that it made me feel good everytime I played it, so I just gave in and now I love it. There is NOTHING wrong with a song making you laugh, especially if it makes you feel good. Hopefully, that's happening to you and others reading this and hearing "Everybody Loves Me". If not, sorry. sad

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I place this song in the same category as Pretty Man, just a much gentler version.

If you pitch it up considerably, about to Horny Toad tempo, it's more effective. It's fun either way, but much less egregiously off-putting when pitched up. Camille-ified, even.

I'm imagining him doing a spoof video and it's in black and white and he's dressed like Charlie Chapman...

May-be he should do a contest about fans acting like him or showing his fans singing this song around the world and make a video with a collection of clips like that.. Hmmmmm...

Um... let me warm up my vocals

I liked this the first time I heard it and now I love it. It's fun, cheeky and full of energy.

I swear if this wasn't on the album and surfaced as a recently discovered Controversy outtake, most who hate it would love it and say how he doesn't make them like he used to.

How is it worse than Ronnie Talk To Russia or Jack U Off?

RIP sad

haha don't be sorry, I know what you mean. I'm now likening this song to those Hershey peanut m&m type things.

For some reason you can't stop eating them, even though they're full of hydrogenated oil and E numbers. You know you shouldn't eat them, because they're bad, but they just make you smile, so it's all ok.

damn, now I'm hungry.

It kinda reminds me of this ...and that's not necessarily a good thing.

(I'd be interested to know if anyone has seen this film (Get Ready To Be Boyzvoiced) ...it's hysterical, by the way)

this song initially strikes me as a terrible mistake, and indeed it may be. But listening to it I got the feeling that prince understands that people sing along to music, and so his intent seems not to say it about himself but to have thousands of people singing "I love everybody and everybody loves me" which is actually quite a nice sentiment.

But I am stil not crazy about it

The only track that I can say I really dislike is Everybody Loves Me. It sounds like a simple nursery rhyme throwaway, both lyrically and musically. The equivalent of the old nursery rhyme "rock your baby to sleep/when the tree falls/ the branch will break..." LOL Sounds really sly and passive/aggressive to me, compared to the other songs on the album. I think it was totally sarcastic hidden in a simplistic happy musical disguise! Hate it, hate it, hate it! But I did really like the end of Future Soul Song, Sticky Like Glue, Act of God, and Lavaux. Those four songs made it worth the wait, because I wanted to hear the CD on my stereo speakers--not crappy computer speakers! So, 4 out of 10 for me! cool

Fun song. Its not 1980 though and he is a grown ass man. He should have sold this to someone younger to sing. It would have been a big hit...for someone at LEAST 1/2 his age.... biggrin

On first listen I hated, really hated it.

After about 15 listens to the album I love it.

There's a voice in my saying you should hate it, but I don't, i LOVE IT.

I love the way it all comes together for the last minute or so.

It's new wave cartoon funk.

The song tries to recapture the vibe of early-80s upbeat electro-pop songs, like Gotta Stop Messin' About; a failure, but at least the chorus is catchy...irritating, but catchy...

This song goes on and on and on.

If you're going to write something irrereverant and silly and tounge-in-cheek, have the decency to know when enoughs enough.

"All you need is love, all you need is love, all you need is love, love, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, she loves you yeah, yeah, yeah, (love is all you need continues to repeat in background)".

And they were arguably the best band in modern history.

yeahthat

Moreover:

For Goodness sake
I got the Hippy Hippy Shake
Yeah I got the Shake
Ooh, the Hippy Hippy Shake

I can't sit still
With the Hippy Hippy Shake
Yeah I get my fill now
With the Hippy Shake
Yeah its in the bag
The Hippy Hippy Shake

Well now you shake it to the left
Shake it to the right
Do the Hippy Shake Shake
With all of your might oh baby

Yeah come on shake
Oh, its in the bag
The Hippy Hippy Shake

I loooove Everybody Loves Me! headbang

Prince's way to close the album like that: nana

I love all the uptempo songs on the album!

I just skip the ballads... no harm done... cowboy

As said before, what cripples the song are the lyrics. With some more bold, insolent lyrics, this would have made a great new wave song (albeit a rerun, for Prince, but that has been discussed amply as well). Now, the well-behaved lyrics make it cheesy in stead of cheeky.

"Let's pretend we're married" for comparison?

was my favourite at first listen, this made me beam ear 2 ear. would not be out of place on dirty mind?

but i've grown a bit tired of it & kinda regard it as least favourite on the album! work that out confuse

I like it, its a fun, happy-go-lucky track not trying to do anything but have fun. Its silly, cheesy & corny but I still like it. Prettyman is very silly but awesome, while this song is no Prettyman its in a class of its own. I don't even mind the vocal effects & a lot of times I kinda cringe @ the auto-tune crap he sometimes tries out but you can't hate him for experimenting I guess.. it is HIS music.

I get it.

I finally get it!!!!!

This is like... the anti-Erotic City.

It's like... the anti-Let's Go Crazy.

Prince just trying to keep the brilliance of his former tracks in tact.

BRILLIANT!!

This song is SO SHITTY, it makes his other songs THAT MUCH BETTER!

Sheer genius Prince. Now we'll NEVER forget your good stuff.

The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

I feel the same way. It's great in the same way as other fun stuff like Jack U Off (which for many years was my favorite on its album).

The backing track makes this good - they might have been meny ways to screw this up, but for me he has managed to make it fun.
