I think he would appreciate his future self's music, but would have been put off by the religious restrictions. He probably would have stopped doing so many splits, seeing as he now needs hip replacements.

Yes, locking your mind and only listening to the babblings of a cult = being mature.

In the early 1980s, Prince met Santana, and was disappointed afterwards because Santana was only talking about his guru etc.

Prince is happy? How do you know? Because he says so? In an interview that's full of bullshit, hype and lies? Oh, and for a happy, "spiritual" man he does a lot of bitching, and he's unable to reconcile with people he's hurt in the past.

Back in the 1980s Prince didn't wanna end up being an oldies act. In Monaco in 2009, the average age of the songs he played was 25+ years.

Oh, and FYI: people who saw Prince at the Celebrations a couple of years ago, reported how amazed he looked when watching the videos from his concerts from the 1980s.

The Prince of 2010 is mature? So that's why he answers "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you" when Hans-Maarten Post asks him what his business model is beyond sticking free CDs on lousy newspapers for a large cash advance.

Based on all that, I'd say that the OP is largely correct; and moreover, the Prince of 1984 would be right in mocking the Prince of 2010.

the absolute worst stories about Prince would be no surprise to me. got a gut feeling he knows the score too.

i got a theory that a lot of folks will most likely recoil in horror when they hear it, but it's only a theory and not intended to offend anyone in any way, least of all Prince:

sociopaths are born, not made. he's been a sociopath all his life. sociopaths tend to poison everything they touch.

the ladies love Prince because they love the act he puts on, ladies man charming lover with quite the way with words, plus his good looks.

the guys love the music and his attitude, but much less these days, as the novelty is wearing a bit thin, even Prince can't keep up with his own game.

that being said, i still think he's owed a high degree of respect for the work he's put in to his career, the prolific amounts of music, music that changed a lot of people lives for the better.

so whether he's a sociopathic immature megalomaniacal asshole or not, he's still done a lot of good.

jilted lovers and co-workers may disagree. unsatisfied fans may disagree even more, but maybe the most reasonable approach to making comments about him in any negative way (no matter how truthful) is to lace that opinion with some genuine respect.

i think it's a respect he deserves, and believe me, i dont have much time for sociopaths. they need to do something extra special to impress me.

prince

I don't believe you don't have time for sociopaths. If Prince is a sociopath like you call him he's been on your mind daily. You spend time posting a lot about Prince.

i love this response. the org is a great place to find out whats going on in the world of prince and i love it for that, but what i can't stand is the constant ''he's not as great as he used to be'' type attitude so many people here have.. prince is an ARTIST and a MUSICIAN he is not a cookie cutter singer who remains stagnant and the same. The whole point in art is to express yourself and where you are with your life... if prince was still at the same point in his life as he was 26 years ago then there would be a real problem and his music would be ridiculous as he would have no new experiences or life experience or issues close to his heat to feel passionate about. the prince of 1984 would have laughed at the prince of 2010 if he was exactly the same as he was back then.. 25 years of being a superstar and a human life with nothing to show for it, nothing new or fresh to contribute. i thank god for the fact that the prince of 2010 is who he is today because if he wasn't not only would he be in a mess but i would be bored, change is good, so many people here don't seem to get that. 20ten is a new prince album and you should be grateful he still has the drive and the music within him to carry on giving.. you are all like this because his output has spoilt you, you have bizarre expectations and don't appear able to appreciate the music anymore. If you don't like it, leave. because there are plenty of us that do. i have NEVER heard a prince album i didn't like, not out of blind 'famdom' but because i genuinely enjoy his music and his journey. 20ten will be out in a week as 'graycap' has pointed out, and i'm sure there are many of you who can't wait to be 'disappointed' just so you have something to rant about. i can't wait to hear the new music because it's NEW. a concept which so many people here clarly are too uncmfortable to embrace. change is good. the prince of 1984 wouldn't have laughed at the prince of 2010 because prince wasn't and isn't blinkered. prince is prince and the more he evolves the more i love him for it.

interesting though, two responses to the word 'sociopath', but no recognition of the positive aspects of my post.

from the first note he recorded, to the very last.

i'm not sure it's well understood around these parts just how much respect that man deserves.

from the outright vindictive hate some spill from their minds onto these boards about him

to the overly-romantic and sexually lustful remarks made about his person

i'm saying, even if he is a sociopath, he still deserves utmost respect.

his life and career are no vehicle for any of us to use for our own negative and biased therapeutic purposes

just as the BET awards tribute should not have been merely another excuse for them to fill a spot on their show and USE Prince to do so

one fine day his work will receive the full recognition it deserves.

hopefully it will be the same day he receives nothing less than full due respect from every single one of his 'fans'.

peace out i gotta go peace

this too shall pass

Yes, I think the music community consusus would be that Prince is nowhere near the calibur artist he was in his 20's, People reach their peak functioning levela in their 20's.

I actually think its awesome that he is still out there performing, 52 is not that old.

Now, if old Prince were going to laugh at himself he should laugh at the Prince of the 90's when he was just in his mid 30's and 40's. 90's Prince is the most cringeworthy Prince of them all.

Bullcrap. He knows it, everybody knows it. Skill instead of passion is worthless. And better songwriter? He can't be arsed to play those "great" tunes live. He can't be arsed to keep them in print. I think the Prince of the 80's would have been highly impressed by the modern day Prince's mastery of his instruments and the tight interraction of his band.

But, he would have probably found the tunes of the modern Prince a bit boring. He would also probably be horrified at the outfits and hairdos.

Brain decline' begins at age 27

Mental powers start to dwindle at 27 after peaking at 22, marking the start of old age, US research suggests.

You quote one headline (not even the entire article) - and claim the information is "pretty well known."

That says something about the powers of deduction and discrimination of 20-somethings, I'd say.

Incidentally, the same article says, "abilities based on accumulated knowledge, such as performance on tests of vocabulary or general information, increased until the age of 60."

In other words, you've got a lot to learn, honey.

It isn't against the rules to post entire articles. It is against the rules to post entire articles without giving your impression of them. The rule as stated in the P&R forum:

PLEASE do not copy articles verbatim from other sites or post videos without comment! If you want to quote something, or post a video, fine... say where it comes from, provide a link, and also provide ANALYSIS and INSIGHT of your own. We're here to discuss and debate ideas we actually hold.

Musically, vocally, lyrically, and compositionally, he has evolved.

I think the 'Lotusflow3r' album alone is enough evidence.

Your argument is fundamentally flawed when U mention live work.

Recording and performing R 2 different art forms. He's still got it in both areas.

This would only support my previous statement, as the only live era that comes close 2 NOW in terms of guitar playing is the live Lovesexy tour, and the One Night Alone tour.

Prince is an Anomoly as a recording and performing artist, as with any other artist, thier skills degrade over time... especially THIS much time.

Look Bart. U probably know that I'm an old school Prince head from way back. I have much love 4 that time and material, and if I felt he was lesser now, I'd say it.

There is no fantasy here.
