Ah, so how much did Prince earn from this? $0.

Oh, and his song wasn't exposed to an audience that might be interested in buying it; instead, he got yet another slice of bad publicity.

Yeah, I see your point.

How much did Verizon pay prince for Guitar?

How much did Pepsi pay him for Uh Huh?

How much did Chevrolet pay him for Little Red Corvette?

Does he get high profile things like that if his songs are being used for promotions everywhere?

here's the problem. Prince is charging 5 times the standard to make money off of his publishing. The point being, to make money. So instead of getting 10 organizations who are willing to pay the standard rate, he might get 1 to do. Thus losing out on 10 organizations' pay and 10 more exposures to his music. Which he'd like to sell. And the organizations who pay this kind of stuff really are not going to be bothered to pay 5 times the going rate just for a Prince song, so they'll quickly look elsewhere for something just as suitable.

Good thing he's a musical genius, because he's a complete dope when it comes to anything else.

How about let Prince worry about Prince's finances, and stop pretending to be his accountant. If he charges that much because he doesn't want his music to be played on T.V. shows, and in commercial, so be it.

yeahthat

why would anyone else mind ?

it's HIS business and HIS music

and i applaud him for not selling out

You're not qualified to worry about Prince's finances. You're not a C.P.A.

How is this "bad publicity"? It was a tweet.

Questlove has always made it known that some artists charge more to use their songs than others.

Trust me, a 10 second snippet of The Roots covering Valentina isn't gonna make anyone go out and buy LotusFlow3r.

Most people won't even know what songs they play unless they talk about it during the interview.

I'm guessing The Beatles and Radiohead are missing out on getting their music heard too, because they charge high prices for publishing.

you're really missing the point here. P has ample opportunity to make mega$£, maybe not in 1 big hit [which he likes to do] but on smaller amounts ihn higher quantity over longer periods of time. If P has gone broke after earning mega millions since the 2004 comeback then he only ha s himself to blame.if he has ample opportunity and hasn't jumped at them, maybe he isn't really interested in mega bucks.maybe the high fees are to discourage people from trying to use his music.why do people think money is the end all and be allof everything.perhaps he honestly doesn't care about money.just protecting his "babies''. lol

Scenario:

- artist A wants to be on every lame TV show and TV commercial cause they better cash in while it lasts

- artist B doesn't want to do that and doesn't have to.

Right, the first presentation of the scenario is a bifurcation fallacy. The OP assumes Prince is playing the implied game and thus has a stake in winning it, as though he is in P's head to know what is most important to him.

Its completely obvious that Prince likes money, BUT as anyone knows, he's extremely stubborn about many other principles that he lives by that mean more to him than selling himself cheaply.

Yes, like pimping his "children" to advertisers. Oh wait, he did that -- it isn't about principles, it's about greed.

Sweet jebus, "Uh Huh" IS NOT HIS SONG.

Oh, and either he has principles (= not selling out), or he's willing to abandon them as long as the price is right (= greed).

Kind of like posting in bold and all caps out of fear that no one will read your rant, eh?

How is it negative if it's true? If Prince raises his price so high, and people say "Oh, that's 5x higher than the going rate", then how is that negative? Facts are facts, so don't getcha panties in a knot over it.

I'd rather not hear his music used in commercials, but at least it was HIM in the ad and not just his music used to pimp a car or something.

i can't help but give in to the urge to express my disgust for that overrated talentless hag when she's being dicussed and praised by some

i'm really trying to quit the habit though , since it rather useless smile

i don't see what that has anything to do with what i said though

the OP of this thread's sole purpose on here seems to be spouting negative drivel about Prince on every single ocasion

every thread on Prince he starts is negative , it appears as if he thrives on it

hence my question regarding his motivation to even feel the need to be here in the first place

since this is a Prince fan site

negativity is negativity. so why bother spewing it. and since this is a Prince fan site, why are you looking for threads about other artists to do it on?

sorry, just following your own logic through to its natural progression.

Never saw it, so I can't say if I would've liked the way it was used or not. But if it had SOTT footage in it, was it promoting SOTT in some way also, along with the Corvette connection? Generally speaking, unless it's promoting something of his or is something creative, I'd rather it not be in a TV ad, but it's his shit, not mine, so whatever. I never knew much about the VW commercial, thought it was more of a concept kind of deal, was it ever broadcast? I thought it was fun though.

I can't believe that MULTIPLE people are getting all bent out of shape over the topic and conversation in this thread. It is a legitimate discussion. And it has merit. Prince isn't the only one doing this. And I respect ?uestlove's reported conversation on the matter as well as the OP's thread.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Prince is greedy, it's that simple. He's missed every opportunity to have his music played wherever by whoever. You can't price yourself right out of the market, then bitch because everyone ignores your money hungry ass.

that is so contradictional it's just nonsense

if he were so greedy he'd let his songs be played at a lower pricerange , which he doesn't

This isn't about commercials. This is about his music being used in TV shows, etc.

And he has sold his music to commercials.
