I love the part on the video where Prince is done playing guitar and just sticks it out to the first person he sees, the guitar player in back of him, the guy on guitar looks at him like "whuaw?" stops playing and takes it from him and looks for a place to set it down.

Honestly, you didn't miss that much. Prince only played one song and I could hardly hear him singing. He didn't do any fancy guitar solos or say much. I personally could have taken or left the Larry portion of the show (but then, I don't really know any Graham Central Station songs and Larry's mustache creeps me out). I felt like I was at some vaudeville church revival for most of it, especially when Tina came onstage and started waving her towel around!

The highlight of the night for me was actually not when Prince got on stage but when Greg Errico (the original Sly & the Family Stone drummer) played Dance to the Music with them. I think that's the first time he and Larry have played together since the 70s. He is an incredible drummer and seems like a genuinely nice guy. He played at The Bitter End afterwards with Days of Wild and after that show he spoke with every single person who approached him.

This is a sincere question. Why go to a concert of a artist that you do not care for and do not know any of the music? In addition, what does his having a mustache have to do with the price of peas. He is a man most men have facial hair. I am really starting to wonder about a lot of people on this board.

well, ten years ago this is what made me less of a believer in the magic that is prince.

he and larry began playing 'thank you for lettin me be myself' and 'everyday people' at EVERY. SINGLE. SHOW.

Were to begin with this B.S. I have seen Prince in concert 10 times since the mid-90s and heard

Sly songs at two shows (not aftershows) So what are you talking about he has not done that many tours with Larry Graham or had Larry on a lot of his music over the last decade. In addtion, he might be putting in covers at his shows because he said over 10 years ago that he was cutting out the rauchier material out of his concerts. Something you negative naysayers seem to have forgotten.

Because I was given free tickets and despite his creepy mustache, Larry revolutionized the way the bass was played. I wanted to go and see what the man who invented the slap technique played like (and the guy whose bass playing Prince emulates). I actually recognized "I Can't Stand the Rain" because of the Missy Elliot cover, but didn't know it was a GCS song. Just like I went to see the Marina Abromowitz show at MoMA even though I knew I probably wouldn't love it and didn't know any of her work -- it was important to see. Plus, I've heard you might find something you like or actually learn something when you try new things.

Yeah, didn't you read? I learned that GCS did the original "I Can't Stand the Rain". And I learned that I'm not really a fan of the other songs in GCS's catalogue. Oh, I also learned that Prince borrowed the march in playing drums (from his MTV Play in the Sunshine performance) from Larry as that's how GCS enters the venue. Totally worth the price of a free ticket!
