Oooooo. Man, I hadn't even thought of that. That's probably the winner IMO. This is the song that could have made a lot of people remember that Prince could still rock it. If they edited out the bridge I think it could have been a top 10 for sure.

Trust. I understand why partyman was a single, but I have NO idea why anyone liked Bat Dance. I guess it did go to number 1 (didn't it?) but I feel like that has more to do with the fact that it was a movie tie in than actual song quality.

Trust on the other hand is a highly listenable dance track. The only critique I would put on the song might be removing the cartoon sounds and the spoken word part lifted from batman.

I guess another reason might be that Partyman and Trust are both in a similar vein. IDK

Trust very almost was a single. Remixes were even made ready for the 12".

Actually,it was a single...at least here in the States.

It was in the uk...it's a sad turning point in his career for me...a slapdash single with Live 4 Love (!!!???) as the bside

Beautiful Ones. Honestly, WB and Prince should have released every song on Purple Rain as a single (except Darling Nikki).

It was being considered for a single release. But Prince wanted to move on to
Around the World in a Day instead.

Electric chair, may have broke into the top 10..maybe.

Was also being considered as a single. Ended up being used as the B-Side to
The Future instead in the end though.

The Max should have been the lead single for prince. It would have gave the album more momentum. Probably not a #1 hit, but definitly a top 10.

This was intended to be released as a single. Remixes were made ready for the
12" as well.

Endorphine Machine should have been released without a doubt!

If the Gold Experience hadn't been caught up in the whole WB/Slave debacle,
this would definitely been released as a single as intended. Other singles
planned were Dolphin and P Control.

Yup, am now aware of The Morning Papers being a single in the UK, didn't even reach the top 40 (#52 I believe), strange lapse in my Prince fanaticism that, I was probably too engrossed in girls and grunge rock around then. For shame, I know. I do remember hanging around an amusement arcade where they played MTV on the screens and "My Name Is Prince" was being played and I got very vocal to a group of pool players who were ridiculing The Purple One. So I couldn't have been that detached.....

Must look around for any throwaway copies, or if you still have yours Purpledove and are still disappointed in it, you can always send it my way, I'll certainly appreciate the baby! wink

I kid off course.....

Yup yup! nod

TGRES is probably considered the biggest hit chart wise, but So Far So Pleased is the best song on that album.

Definitely Pussy Control - it's still played at dance clubs everywhere, and everybody knows the chorus. Such a shame that one of his best music eras (Come/Gold/Exodus) was shunted by the WB feud.

Return of the Bumpsquad woulda been a great, albiet heavily edited down single. Another NPG song I love, but may not have made a great single is Johnny.

no, but there is a list of them that was going around, along with some unreleased remixes of I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man. i think they were by Shep Pettibone and he had them on the discography of his site (or somewhere), but they aren't circulating. at least widely.

What song do you feel would have quickly went to #1 had he released it as a single? Something that would be a huge radio hit. There's quite a few for me, The ones I can name off the to of the dome are..

If I love you tonight...his version,not Mayte's

Space

Beautiful Strange

To the 9's

Elephants and Flowers

She loves me 4 me

I don't know Blank but I'd go with your other choices except to the 9s.
Aha, I see the blank is 'blank". Sorry, so many new songs lately, I thought it was a song. lol

I think if he released Endorphinemachine as a single, he would have really gotten the Hard Rock market, though it was pretty much dead by '95 sad Still, would have been nice to hear Rock & Metal artists comment on the song which is one of my favorites!

I notice in these threads, most people confuse number 1's with the best songs. They are rarely the same thing.

It was a dual single on a 2-CD single set for The Holy River. It had two remixes, one of which trumps the album version (live studio mix).

I love the live studio mix! I wish he would let more of his songs come alive on record like this.

'7' was actually originally scheduled as the follow-up to 'Sexy MF'. This was then
changed to 'My Name Is Prince' for some reason quite late on. This pushed '7' back
to being the 3rd single, which was originally intended to be 'The Continental'.
Other intended singles from the album were 'The Max' and 'Blue Light'.
