I've noticed that "I just hate to see an erection go to waste" has a habit of always popping up in a lull in conversation! biggrin

In my younger years, I was a DJ in South Wales, UK.
I became quite accustomed to the 'sneak a Prince song into the set' routine.
And of course, it all depended on the demographic nature of the punters.
I soon found that Kiss pretty much worked on all age groups, especially with women.
The same could be said with Gett Off and I'd also at times get away with squeezing Erotic City
in between say Nelly's Hot In Here and OutKast's Ms. Jackson.
Prince's cover of One of Us would also slot nicely in with the rock/pop of the day.
Some nights I'd push my luck and sandwich the live version of The Jam in between James Brown and Sly Stone.
The regulars that attended got well accustomed to The Jam and often commented on just how funky it was.
No one believed me when I said it was Prince.
Growing up in South Wales, UK, all that most 18 year olds knew about Prince
at that time was that he sung that gay song Most Beautiful Girl In The World
and that he had a rib removed to give himself a blowjob!
At least that was the general perception.

Perhaps the song that I enjoyed playing the most though was Calhourn Square.
Whenever there was a rock crowd in, I'd cue it up between Jimi's Hey Joe and perhaps Led Zeppelin's Kashmir.
Again, people would come up and say "Oi, butt, that was fuckin' cool, what band's that?"
And I'd take great pleasure by responding with just one word "Prince".
The look on their faces as they went back to tell their friends would be priceless.
And then there'd be the look on their friend's faces as they most likely said something like "What? that poof? No way!"
Christ, looking back, I played so much Prince -
but due to careful song selection and scrupulous crowd analysis,
most of the time it was well appreciated.
Fun times!

What songs have you shared with other non Prince friends and you were embarrassed when Prince let out a scream or did something bizarre? Like you wanted to turn the volume down for that part?

Like God Vocal is a good example. I mean I can listen to it and like it. But my friends who did not listen to Prince....

My friends aren't the problem, it's my parents ... LoL

I'm a grown as man and they just never understood why I liked that JW Christian cat's music , being Sunni Muslim and all. Hell, I've been on that boat since 1996 and I'm not gonna stop now.

Back in the day my friends and I used to talk sh*t about Prince but then once we started talkin' about the women he was known to be with, that gay talk would flip. It was more that kind of talk then anything else. I was 27 when I got into Prince. Waaaayyyy past the time of idle "teenage" talk and dribble.
Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I'm not embarrassed by the fact that I listen to P, but perhaps embarrassed by certain songs/lyrics when in certain company. I don't think I'd want to hear "Sexy M.F.," "Head," or "Jack U Off" in the presence of my parents or in-laws. But, hey, that's just me.
