I've watched Purple Rain and Under the Cherry Moon many times and can honestly say I think he is not a bad actor, maybe a bad director, but not a bad actor!
Just like in his songs how he is able to convey a myriad of colorful human emotions so can he on film. The only problem is at times his voice can be kinda monotone like that guy from the Visine commercials.Also, his colossal ego and narcissitic tendencies does not help much either. i.e. Under the cherry moon.

Of all the bad actors in Purple Rain, Prince was actually believable. Apples and Jill were awful. But the tittie factor makes up for all kinds of thespian shortcomings.

I actually don't think he's bad.

And aside from his ridiculous acting in the death scene, I thought his acting in UTCM was good.

Purple Rain and UTCM are good.

I think he is talented and it shows. He just needed better directors for his films. He's already better directing himself in UTCM.

So what is good acting? Appolonia and everyone in the movie was fine to me...

People say the kissing was bad. Well, what is good kissing? It looked good to me.

Yes,I think he did a great job in "Purple Rain" especially around the scene where his father shot himself,and during the abuse scenes,that was some pretty intense stuff. For UTCM it may just be me but I wasent really feeling some of the kissing scenes in their.

I think a person needs to work with a Good Director and a Good Script.

He's good at comedy, actually really good. Dramatic stuff, not so much.

Prince acting is sexy and funny... I really liked PR & UTCM.

Actually it's a fair point that he does comedy pretty well (and intentionally at that!) Graffiti Bride was just a bit too silly. at least UTCM had the whole Riviera thing going on. I think the directing is quite good. some beautifully shot scenes. prince is a bit like jessica fletcher though. his dad nearly croakes it in pr, He croakes it in UTCM and and his missus croakes it in Graffiti Bridge. The lesson: don't be prince or one he loves in a movie and you'll be just fine.

I think Prince had brilliant moments in all his films. He has great timing (which is something you can't learn) and a willingness to "go there." Those are essential tools for an actor. Had he chosen to, he could have been great at it.

I think he's a great actor.

He was very believable in both Purple Rain and UTCM, especially the latter because obviously in PR he's more or less just playing himself.

The Christopher Tracy character is great. You get into the character enough to feel like you're not watching "Prince", but you start to really believe in the character. It's great, and I love it.

Graffiti Bridge is just too weird for me to be able to say.

Prince is good at being Prince, and God Bless him for that

He's good at posing in music videos and live on stage, but he's not a good movie actor at all. I really don't want to see the kissing scenes or the death scene in UTCM again. Sorry Prince.
I don't see Graffiti Bridge as a real movie. To me it's a longtime music video with some bad acting inbetween.

to be honest i think he was mostly bad in Purple Rain..he had some of the worst lines in the movie actually..like when he said "father, she's heard you!" and the worst one of all.."where are you motherfucker?!!" and he does a completely unnecessary spin move...however he had a few lines that came across very real..when he says "lay off that" to billy and not to mention all the stage performances which were the main part of the movies allure...he was good in UTCM on the other hand...probably the best

He's OK. His problem was that he was too unique. No one in the world looked or dressed like him, and he wasn't going to change, so it was hard to find movie parts that called for such a unique look.

Michael Jackson was the same way. That's why he had no acting career to speak of.

bad acting is the opposite..when a character seems like they're talking for the sake of the camera..its a very unnatural tone..like all of Appolonias dialogue..everything she said sounded fake..as if it wasn't coming from a real person but someone who was reading a cue card

he is a terrible actor...period.
