i may be in the minority but i love this song

surely a lot of your collective problems would be solved if you just don't listen to it. if you haven't got anything nice to say then don't say it. this place used to be a place of discussion, now it's just a place of negativity.

how sad is it that the org gets quoted in an article slating prince's fight song? really sad. i wouldn't blame prince if he retired from music for good if this is all he gets faced with everytime he does something. if you havent got something nice to say then dont say anything at all..this song isn't going to kill his career, it's his so called fans who will. the majority of which are clearly not even fans so the fact that you post on here is perplexing in itself.

the org is the best place on the internet for finding out prince news, if it wasn't i don't think i'd ever come back

[Edited 1/23/10 4:30am]

and i stick by what i said yesterday:

i LOVE it <3 .
after reading this thread i was expecting it to be hideous..people here are always so negative.

prince's versatility is one of his most brilliant talents, you people say it all the time but then constantly backtrack on yourselves.. so many people seem to be harking after who he was x number of years ago.. if he stayed 80's prince his career would have died long ago as although his music would still have appealed, he wouldn't be current, and prince is a current artist, he marches to his own beat but still periodically puts out albums and songs, with a bit of oldschool and a lot of newschool prince and old and new influences.
it's natural to evolve and grow, the man supports his home team, writes them a song, they love it, it is a nice gesture and an unusual thing to do and if everyone was to just take it on face value instead of measuring it up in some inbuilt 'princeometer' in their head, then maybe everyone would be a bit happier, i am a prince fan because i love his back catalogue and i love the surprise of what he is going to release next, he is the most eclectic artist and that's how it should be. stop expecting him to release your own personal idea of what you want his music to be..it's his music, if you don't like what you're hearing then why do you still come here? why don't you turn your negativity in to something productive? there is enough negativity happening in the world today without adding to it. i come here to keep up to date on what is happening with prince, it is no wonder he is shying away from the fans again if all he gets everytime he releases a new song is critism. it's about time a lot of you started to appreciate him, because (without sparking up the mj vs prince discussions) one day he too will be gone so it's about time people began to appreciate him a little more. if you don't love prince you wouldn't be here, but if you don't start showing him the love then i wouldn't be surprised if he did just retreat back in to himself entirely..then everyone would be moaning for new songs, or for him to opent he vault..but why should he if all he gets is critism? I think it's actually quite sad how the number one prince site on the internet gets quoted in a report on his new song as saying it's rubbish.. it's not 1984 anymore...get over it.

this isn't a ''fam'' moment, i don't worship prince, i don't write in princebonics, i don't love everything he puts out but i always at least like it. the vikings are very lucky men.

Here's what makes this such a bad situation.

We're all fans of Prince. Sure, he's released bad/strange music before that we ALL thought was terrible. Wedding Feast to some, Jughead to many, Animal Kingdom to most... and many many others.

But what makes this song different is the fact that with those songs, we knew that they wouldn't be listened to by the masses anyway! Only us hardcore people would comment, and then move on to our favorites on the album, or on to other albums that we were fans of.

But this "failure of a song" is nationwide. Talk shows, sports shows, radio shows, etc. Everyone is commenting, and it's bad.

I understand what he was trying to do, but like many of us realize, Prince was misguided... perhaps by his own ego again... and had no one there to put him in check.

We don't want our boy with this bad press. That's what makes this song such an EPIC failure, unlike the others that we could dislike in private.

I've read almost ALL of the comments on here over the past couple of days. Some are funny. Some are true. Some are beating a dead horse. But my take is that I feel bad because I hate having to hear others speak poorly of Prince, on such a national level.

I kinda wonder how he'll recover. I see this as a long lasting "purple stain".
The public is squeezin' you kiddo. You'd better kick ass on your next album or else!

i agree that it is horrible that he is being slated on such a national level because it was a song from the heart. he will recover the way he always recovers, take centre stage and play. if britney spears had sung this song the american press would be lapping it up.

Uh... no. They don't play the new music because it's simply not good. They do play train wrecks like this.

That's your opinion. Many stations here in NYC play his classic stuff on a constant basis. Everytime I walk into a store and some other place where there is a radio on, I hear one of his songs.

My point is, these same stations may not play much of his new stuff, but they sure suddenly found time in their day to get hold of this tribute to the Vikings to bash it. So if they could find time to do that, they could play his current music.

You're not getting it. They ain't playing the new stuff because NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT IT. People don't want to hear it.

They do play this abysmal tragedy precisely because it is such a low point. They ain't playing it because it's new or fresh, they're playing it because it's godawful.

Listening to the entire song, I can now see what he was trying to get at. He is taking his influence here obviously from an era that preceded the pop music decades - it's just that the production and the sounds used don't really lend to making such an observation easily. He really should have used his horn section and live marching drums on it - not the cheap rompler shit and playing electric guitar on top of it. It just indicates to me it was a really hasty work. The intro should be something of a giveaway of his intentions though.

Obviously, there's been a considerable backlash by this point already..

Just like he didn't give a shit when websites protested -- you remember, when he recorded that overrated crap "p-funk"?

Oh, and have you listened to his latest album? What do you think "No More Candy 4 U" is about?

Your pretty boring in your fanatic bashing of the man. You're captain Ahab and Prince is your Moby Dick. Maybe indeed a dick but still more interesting and at least not as predictable as you.
I forgot .. who died in the end?
And o yeah, get a life .. at least Moby Dick still has one.

Thank you for admitting that I am right, by failing to debunk what I said (which you can't because unlike you I've got evidence) and immediately resorting to a personal attack.

Okay maybe somebody else on this thread already said this (Lord knows I haven't gone back and read all 3000 comments) but consider this, purple people.

Prince is a freaking genius.

Okay, the song is crap. True enough. But Prince is the number 5 most searched thing on Yahoo right now. And there are articles on CBS.com, ESPN.com, Billboard.Com, etc. Various Vikings are singing his praises. My local sports talk show spent a good 40 minutes discussing the song today. Prince has somehow got himself back on the cultural radar just by writing a freaking syrupy fight song. That, ladies and gentlemen, is brilliant.

Not all publicity is good publicity. If anything this reinforces the belief that Prince is an irrelevant artist who hasn't recorded a good album in eons.

Yeah, great lyrics if you're one of Willie Wonka's Oompa Loompas.

Glad I made your day, you pitiful man who lives for the little climaxes when he can proof his points. Now, you go masturbate on your small victory. And dicky - yes Prince gives the impression of being a dick sometimes, however a very talented, interesting dick whose shadow you're not even worth standing in -
will continue to make his music unaware of a meaningless character called Bart van Hemelen.

Our best hope is for the Saints to win and this song will go away.
This truly is the lowest of the lows.

As someone said, this is a national spotlight, not just the diehards
that have heard this song...ridiculous.

Prince is a genius, but trying to defend him is getting harder...
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

It sounds like the theme music from some 1980s straight-to-video sci-fi movie about space pirates or something.

It's worse than Graffiti Bridge.

Why do I now have the music from Police Academy in my head? confused

after listening to it...for the 5 time...I get it. He screwed it up with the cheesy my first Casio keyboard sound. Definitely needs to fire his background singers....If he hired a bunch of guys with low baritones and more bass in their voice it would be just fine. But as it stands, it's....well you know neutral
