Missing a verse.

Will probably never be released again.

It was an exclusive track downloadable from the Montreux Jazz Festival website when he played there last year. It's more or less the same arrangement as they played live at the gig. It's a studio recording, but my guess is that it was originally recorded during rehearsals for use as a demo for the musicians/lighting etc. to practice before the actual gig. Just my guess, though. It's a killer song and recording.

Sounds far fetched to me. I always felt it was recorded during tour rehearsals, as you said. George Michael did the same when he took out the audience sound from his Unplugged show for "I Can't Make You Love Me", so it was, in effect, a "studio" recording. But who knows about the Prince song. It would have been nicer w/o him cutting out the verse w/ the cursing:

Every time U wake up there's a little motherfucker
Talkin' big stuff in your face (Are U happy?)
U only get the kind of people that open their mouth just 2 swap feet
    Welcome 2 the rat race

I'm confused. You say it sounds far fetched and then you go ahead and basically agree with it wink

I agree though, shame about the missing verse.

It was not recorded for the sole purpose of being a demo, or for the lighting people.

I thought the new version was good. Nothing will ever beat the original, i mean its just great and yeah that missing verse will always plague us fans that wanted the outtake released. Too bad the one circulating sounds bad. I'm picky, so no one please say..MINE DOESN'T SOUND TOO BAD. It sounds like shit.

Oh how do I wish, Prince would actually use his site as a pay-per-download website. He puts up songs, we pay and download them. Seesh...Prince drop the cult, embrace your vault material and release it!!

I love it. Definitely not like the original but great musicianship on it regardless.

Me too. Missing verse or not, it's hard to mess up a song this good. This is one of the few jazzy Prince recordings that actually works.

I liked the remake...it was liek a small tribute to his vault...a hint of what is inside...although the original is still grnadiose.

It's not the Grand Progresion but uh..sho is funky
