He fucked up on Old Skool Company

I know people that hate Prince but love that song. They can't believe that it is Prince. It would have been a big hit. Too bad.

You're right, but I quite like this song. And it's still much better than all that radio crap.

Yeah, that's why it's all over radio, has a amazingly innovative video, and is a bonus DVD-ROM on the CD maxi single.

Oh wait.....it's not.

This thread is cracking me up.

"Old Skool Company" is like 'The Black Album' meeting "Sign O' The Times', and PURELY Prince...Complete with one of the greasiest funk guitar rhythms ever.

I usually pick up the Bass on this one, since there's so much room 4 it...

Did it have potential to be a big hit? Perhaps, but irrespective of that, I think it's one of his best songs in the last decade. It took a few listens to get into, which is not uncommon with Prince songs, but then the full force of the song hit. It's a funky gem with a cool vocal performance.

Find a boombox, crank that song, walk around the city and people will be bobbing their heads, asking you who did that song. For real.

Shit Hop = Your favorite way of saying hip hop.

How does

Ol' SKool Company
sound/feel hip hop at all? I hear a little George, and some 70's pimp vibe, in there... but no real Hip Hop influence at all...

Yep. Also, I feel as if "Dance 4 Me" is of the same ilk.

Which, ultimately, is why I scratch my head at the hate some of the 2009 material gets. I like this funk stuff better than the funk on New Power Soul and Rave by quite a bit.

I love it - its minimalist, somewhat bleak, funky and deftly blending some old school feel with a modern hue and Prince's own definitive stamp. On point and one of my favourites on that particular disc.
