It's one of my "lesser" songs from the album. I like "Hot Thing" more. They're in the same vein to me for some reason, although I like "Hot Thing". I think even moreso, that I've grown used to the concert version w/ "Forever In My Life", so to hear it on its own is just....well, doesn't fit sometimes. But I still listen.

I find it to be one of the highlights; the scattered, vehement string-sounds paired with his painful vocal delivery really create this wild sense of urgency in the song. You can feel him vexed by his own sexuality. And when that guitar rips.. nice. (And he tastefully used a gong--or at least something that sounds like one!)

That version in SOTT movie convinced me Prince could do almost any style of music..his singing in It was like some fucking death metal lol

I freaking love this song. It sounds like he needs loving or sex to the extreme like he has not made love in months or she just makes him want it even more than usual.

i like this song!

when i first heard it in 91 i was thinking--> oh prince is doing mj-style music. But i was not the only one who thought that. Some of my friends had the same fellings about the sound of the song...

What"s so interesting about this song is that when I heard it for the first time in 87" for some reason it made me think of "When Doves Cry", and then a couple of years later I listened to one of the Parade live bootlegs from 86" and heard the same drum machine beat that was used in "It" was also used for "When Doves Cry" from that tour, I understood why.

I love this song, I love the beat and the way the song builds up. He used Fairlight drum sounds (instead of the Linn) for the first time on this song.

This might be my favourite song of the album...its so haunting...feels like he doesn't want to have sex, but he can't resist, he's almost forced to...the music is pretty simple, yet so effective... IT!!! cool

Such a great song. Should have been a single. I think I heard all of the songs on the radio except this one. I wish Prince would just dig deep and try to create another album like SOTT. It had some of everything. Forget about today's music as inspiration. Go back and listen to what ever inspired SOTT. Don't get me wrong I'm not suggesting he should make SOTT 2, but show us what real music was like back in the day.

I liked it when it came out, but now I think it goes on too long and I find myself wishing I was listening to Housequake after about minute three. I think it would be cool if he came out and said that "It" didn't refer to sex at all, but rather making pancakes or something.

its one of those oddities that appear on every Prince album just about. Its sparse and not a real thoughtful track, however it provides fun like Dance 4 Me, Love, or Lemon Crush. Just one of those, good tracks that are filler, but funky filler.
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

nod Brilliant. He was in the zone during those years. He could go from a musically chaotic, busy song like Crystal Ball to a simple, stripped-down, almost primal song like IT without missing a beat.

There are VHS tapes on Amazon.com. There is a Canadian version that you can order online as well (which is better than the Brazil version, from what I hear). There are also "the usual places" online to find it by other means.
