I'm planning to build a scale model of Paisley Park. I have loads of photos and maps already. But there is one important thing that I still miss, the exact size of the tiles.

Does anyone in Minneapolis want to drive to Paisley Park for me with a tape measure?

One rule of thumb you could use is how far up does a door handle usually sit on a door? How tall is a door by default? Looks as though, if a door is 7' tall, that those tiles are shorter than that. Might be a start.

As I said, I do have a lot of maps. From that I can deduct the probable size of the tiles, but I'd like to be absolutely certain. I'll include a composition of several maps.

A good friend of mine once measured the tiles when he visited Paisley Park in 2001. But he lost the notebook!

I learned about it on Flickr. The fake ones are just blurred, so it looks more like a macro shot, a model up close, whereas most times, it's just a regular picture. Also, it helps to enhance the shadowing and the darker parts of it (like um.....shadows), so it has a "harsher light" feel to it, as if it was lit from just a foot or two away with strobes or box lights or something. Everything you'd do when shooting a model or a miniature. I still need to do a Diptych before my 365 is up, if I can come up with something. Not sure I can work a Tiltshift into it.

It's a very interesting look. I've worked with Photoshop for about 20 years and never tried this effect.

Thanks for all your suggestions, but unfortunately so far no one was able to provide me with the actual dimensions. So I've made an attempt to carefully calculate the size of the tiles, using all my photos, maps and online satellite images.

I come to a size of 1,36 - 1,37 meter. That happens to be roughly 4,5 feet. And that would mean that the smaller sized tiles would measure 3 feet. So I am going ahead with these sizes.

Please let me know if you think I'm wrong.

if you send me a front elevation showing the front doors i can import the image to autocad and scale it for you (assuming 3'-0" by 7'-0" doors)

OK, if you want to be even more precise, the thickness of the storefront frame should be 1-3/4" wide and 4-1/2" deep. You only need the 1-3/4" dimension though since that is the profile that you see in elevation. These and the door dimensions are standard for commercial storefront systems.

It is also possible for the width to be 2" in case the math isn't adding up, but that is more common in residential storefront systems.
