The Come album, your thoughts

This CD is a dark side of Prince I think. I don't know why but I really can't listen to this album much. I think the music is ok and all, but to me it's all around a little creepy with the overly lustful tone to the album.

He's trying to start a new spiritual revolution....that's what is creepy to me. I know that dates back to the 80s. The whole album is just overall dark with a sadistic feel to it. This is the only Prince album I have that I never play.

Even the album cover is dark. Does anyone feel like this too?

The album contains some gems. Papa, Space, Phermone, Dark . I like Loose as well.

It's a damn near masterpiece. Each song unique, but yet there's a theme, a vibe, a mood throughout, if you will. It's the first of the 90's trilogy. The others being Exodus, and The Gold Experience.

I wish he'd released a fully-realised version of this album. Didn't the original configuration have Endorphinemachine and Ripopgodazippa or something like that??

As it stands, it's a brilliant piece of work. Songs like "Papa" and "Dark" are so much more interesting than pretty much anything he's released in the last ten years. Perhaps if he hadn't stripped it back due to the battle with Warner it would be considered in much higher regard by fans today.

This has been the biggest grower in the Prince catalogue for me. I have made my own version that combines the "extras" o nthe test press with the original.
Personally . I think we are all Boring with No Lives cause all we do is talk about Prince,Criticize and Gossip. I need a Horny Man is what I Need and probably so do most of yas. We are Sexually Frustrated what we R... Amen..!!! - zelaire

I dig this album from start to almost finish. (There's just no need for me to listen to "Orgasm.") I think the album is brilliant and a masterpiece that heralded a new direction after D&P and the Symbol Album. It was a Dirty Mind for the '90s.

I'm glad that stuff like "Strays of the World" wasn't on there, or the "Poem" that goes on too long, when unedited. I do think "Interactive" would have fit on there (although I also think it might fit in the latter half of "Gold" as well). The mood seems to play well, but "Endorphinmachine" belongs on The Gold Experience right where it is. However, the album as is seems to be just right.

Remember that a lot of Prince's albums change track configuration over time. I think they're "fully-realized" when they are finally released. Think about it, he "realized" that perhaps "strays of the world" doesn't work on that album. Or as the story goes, that "Endorphinmachine" and "Interactive" don't work back to back. An album rarely happens as you hear it. Probably Madhouse 8 and Lovesexy are the two slight exceptions.

It's Vanity from the outtake "Vibrator", near the end of the song. Prince credited her as "She Knows", just as a note of privacy. Denise was going through some tough times financially and w/ her dialysis at that time. She and Prince were still gracious toward each other. Prince put that on there so she would receive a bit of royalty (performer/artist royalties, not songwriter royalties, of course), and have a bit of cash coming in. It'd be nothing major and it wouldn't last forever because sales would slow down over time as with any CD, but she was on the album, and would be paid for it.

There are also samples of her on the Madhouse 8 album as well, although her inclusion on there was probably more for the sounds, than the windfall.

But it WAS "scaled down" somewhat and whilst I actually appreciate it for what it is, I do think the likes of Letitgo and Solo probably wouldn't have made it onto a "proper" Prince album.

I hear ya on that. Think about how Crystal Ball or Dream Factory were scaled down. What did we get out of that process? One of the best loved Prince albums in his discography.

For some reason, for me, COME is just .....well, dark and delightful. I'm watching a special on Dexter on Showtime right now. I thought, "Wow, COME would have been great music for the series in places." the very song "Papa" is SO spot on with this show, as is "Dark", and "Space", and even "Letitgo". I guess I just enjoy the darkness on that album. I don't want to be moody all the time, but there are moments when that album is just so perfect.

Space is brilliant , as for the whole album its controversial and I like it. It's apart of Prince's diversity.

Wish they'd hurry up and release season 3 on DVD in the UK.

i enjoy it! "papa" is a great song IMO, it is a lot darker than some of his other work, but maybe that's why i adore it so much?

This season w/ John Lithgow as the Trinity killer was super intense, and the last couple of shows was a whole lot of "OMG!"

I absolutely love this album! I don't feel it's too dark though, it's just right. nod
"Dark" is one of my all time favorites and the energy on "Come" is great.

I tend to be a bigger fan of prince's more "conceptual" albums (1999, Parade, etc.) anyway.
